Steven Taylor, one of Newcastle local boys, has said he thinks the roof will lift off the stadium on Saturday, when Kevin Keegan is introduced to the Toon Army, before the game against Bolton Wanderers.
Steven Taylor – thinks the roof will come off on Saturday
The 21-year-old Geordie defender was a ball boy, and used to watch from the Sir John Hall stand during the days when Keegan’s all out attacking football had supporters across the country drooling. And Steven thinks the Keegan effect has already given Newcastle a tremendous lift, after news of Kevin’s return broke yesterday afternoon.
The England Under-21 skipper talked to Newcastle World TV following the 4-1 FA Cup Third Round hammering of Stoke City, who arrived on Tyneside at a bad time – for them.
“It’s amazing. The fans are on a high and the Keegan days are back,” “We heard the news before the game and we knew there would be a buzz around the stadium.â€
We were in the dressing room when Nigel Pearson was giving his team talk and you could hear the fans singing ‘There’s only one Kevin Keegan’ outside.†“The whole place was rocking and we put on a great show for the new gaffer.â€
“I think I can speak on behalf of the players and say that everyone is delighted. It has given the club a lift and the fans showed that – they were absolutely buzzing.”
“I used to watch from the Sir John Hall stand when players such as Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, Tino Asprilla and Philippe Albert were playing.â€
“It was an exciting time and that’s what the fans want to see.†“The roof is going to lift off on Saturday and we just can’t wait to get out there.”
The fans and players at Newcastle are experiencing the Keegan Effect – that’s for sure. But it will be a much tougher game for us on Saturday. Wonder who’s going to play in defensive midfield?

Comment #43daby the mag – well said, Smith doesn’t deserve to be between those players.
Ed – Where are Faye, Beye and Emre in the banner????

Comment #45Oba – Dunne and Carrick would be a good start! 🙂
A striker too maybe? It will be interesting to see who Keegan prefers – Owen or Martins.
Can’t see Owen going. He deserves to be here based on talent alone. He could get plenty of goals in a Keegan side.
I would still like 1 quality player in each position – Centre Back, Centre Midfield and Striker (big, prolific, mobile type someone like Klose, Zigic, Ashton, someone like that a Ferdinand type basically. Even Jason Roberts short term/squad player?)

Comment #46Although Jason Roberts might not be quite good enough. I do like him as a player but would want someone better than Viduka ideally. More competition for places that way.
Unless of course Ameobi is back to his best. He must be fit by now!

Comment #47I don’t think KK will rush into getting rid of anyone yet, not like Sam did. I also think he will tell all of the players that this is a fresh start and they will be picked on merit.
They all will get thier chance to show what they can do, Joey included. Then if they don’t fit with his style and plans will eventually be let go.
This is how I think he will work, I also expect to see at least one spectacular signing before the window closes, similar to the Shearer one.
Just my opinion but!!!

Comment #48If anyone can get Oba and Owen playing well together it’ll be KK. That’s if it’s possible.

Dunne an amazing defender.
If only, I think maybe we’re getting a wee bit ahead of ourselves.
