During his press conference this morning Kevin Keegan was asked if there was a place for Alan Shearer at the club.
Kevin Keegan – there’s a place for Alan Shearer at the club
Kevin replied by saying he still hadn’t managed to talk to Alan yet, but that he planned to do that. Kevin said there was a place for Alan at Newcastle if that’s what he wanted to do, but that Alan would also have to be suited to the position.
So it seems while Kevin is willing to have Shearer on his staff, it must be a position that Alan is suited to – and also suits Alan himself.
That was the basis of Kevin’s answer so it seems the next thing the two of them have to do is to sit down and have a discussion about it. That mightn’t happen until after the Bolton game because that’s got to be Kevin’s priority today and tomorrow. But it may mean that Alan mightn’t be suited to assistant manager yet, and may have to take a position as a coach at the club first.
It seemed a good and honest answer from Kevin, who seemed confident he could bring success back to Newcastle and he didn’t think the game had changed all that much over the last 10 years. The main thing we took away from the conference was how confident he seemed.
He also was willing to work with Michal Owen, and was aware of the comments Michael had made in his autobiography. Kevin however tried to minimize any negative impact of the comments, and said he was very much looking forward to working with Michael at the club.
Another good answer for the Newcastle fans.
