Keegan – There’s a Place For Shearer at Newcastle

During his press conference this morning Kevin Keegan was asked if there was a place for Alan Shearer at the club.

Kevin Keegan – there’s a place for Alan Shearer at the club

Kevin replied by saying he still hadn’t managed to talk to Alan yet, but that he planned to do that. Kevin said there was a place for Alan at Newcastle if that’s what he wanted to do, but that Alan would also have to be suited to the position.

So it seems while Kevin is willing to have Shearer on his staff, it must be a position that Alan is suited to – and also suits Alan himself.

That was the basis of Kevin’s answer so it seems the next thing the two of them have to do is to sit down and have a discussion about it. That mightn’t happen until after the Bolton game because that’s got to be Kevin’s priority today and tomorrow. But it may mean that Alan mightn’t be suited to assistant manager yet, and may have to take a position as a coach at the club first.

It seemed a good and honest answer from Kevin, who seemed confident he could bring success back to Newcastle and he didn’t think the game had changed all that much over the last 10 years. The main thing we took away from the conference was how confident he seemed.

He also was willing to work with Michal Owen, and was aware of the comments Michael had made in his autobiography. Kevin however tried to minimize any negative impact of the comments, and said he was very much looking forward to working with Michael at the club.

Another good answer for the Newcastle fans.

Comments welcome.

cant see shearer being number 2 to anyone, he will cut his cloth at a club as the main man no a number 2

shearer is a bit of a shit stirer i think, he always puts his hat in, saying i would talk to him etc… just to show that he is a good toon boy, but the fact is that he is merely doing that to hopefully secure himself a chance to manager the toon one day

Great interview by Keegan, I never blinked once.
This guy means business and there are going to be 52,ooo lucky fans come the game against Bolton. Good to see him walk out on England when he did and not just “hang around for a couple of games and get some huge compensation” this man is pure football, can’t wait for match day.
    Well done Mort and Ashley.

Calm and collected interview/ press conference.

Only 4 people @ SJP still from his previous stint @ Toon ofc including Terry Mac, who I think has brought KK up to speed.

Mentioned there were many people to meet behind the scene and the players.

    He seems very confident.

I think he said that maybe 2 or 3 players in this January but also that it is a strong squad (compared to last time) and 4 players away @ ANC.

Very good press conference. You couldn’t ask for more than what he said about Shearer. Hasn’t talked to him yet. Needs to know what he already has at the club first, but if there is a role that works for Shearer and Newcastle then he’d be delighted to work with him.

Thought he did a fantastic job of putting the southern hacks in their place and was interested to hear what he said about leaving Man City.

Assuming Deco isn’t on a flight in this afternoon, anyone reckon a Duff/Zogs/LuaLua/Milner midfield tomorrow picking up the ball and actually running at players?

I reckon KKs first 11 will be
    Given
    Carr/Taylor/Cacapa/Enrique
    Milner/LuaLua/NZogbia/Duff
    Viduka/Owen

Fook knows on the bench – Harper, Rozenhal, Carrol and a couple of kids

Andy T, ur team looks about right. We are limited @ the moment so rb is a little vulnerable, maybe Duff might end up covering him rather than Milner but u never know.

He He OBA – Its Keegan in charge, the job of the full back is to support the wingers – not for the wingers to cover for the full back. 🙂

If anybody missed the Press conference – I’ve put it on my You Tube channel – just click on the UTD111 above or use the address http://www.youtube.com/utd111 – I’ve had to split it into 4 files because of the limits YT puts on uploads but its all there.
    Cheers – Mick
