Keegan To Go After Barcelona’s Deco

There is news coming out today that Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan and club owner Mike Ashley have agreed to make a move for Barcelona’s midfielder, Deco.

Deco – brilliant Barcelona midfielder

Chris Mort and Kevin were locked in talks yesterday about their transfer targets, and we believe a list has been drawn up for Chairman Chris Mort to start working on.

On the list are said to be targets Wes Brown, Jermain Defoe and possibly Wayne Bridge and Wright Phillips from Chelsea. Also now possibly on that list is Deco who would be a very popular signing by Newcastle fans.

We don’t know if this report is true, but Deco’s name has been banded about Newcastle since Sam Allardyce arrived, and he seems to be available from his Barcelona club. This report would not be surprising to us, if it’s true.

A Brazilian by birth Deco was never called up for the Brazilian squad and in 2002, having completed six years of Portuguese residence, he received Portuguese citizenship.

After months of public debate which split Portuguese public opinion down the middle, he was called up for the Portuguese National side in 2003. He is now of course a regular for Portugal, having represented his adopted country 51 times scoring 3 goals.

He played for Porto 144 times scoring 33 goals, and has so far played for Barcelona 102 times scoring 12 goals.

We’ll have to see what happens, but what’s certainly true is that Chairman Chris Mort has his transfer targets in his sights now – we hope Deco’s one of those.

Comments welcome.

Would be a good signing maybe a loan deal first though incase he can’t cut it in the premiership, also being linked to Johan Elmander.

The list is confidential and nobody has seen it apart from Mort, Ashley and Keegan, so how the hell the media seem to know every name on it is a mystery. Especially when they had no idea Keegan had been given the job at the weekend.

James – the deal was done long ago..i’m sure of that… no billionare makes such a big decision (sacking manager) without a back-up…no way… they could even had an agreement already made when ashley bought the club…but if he would sacked sam then, the press would rip ashley apart…

Van der Vaart prefers to play in spain. He’s good, but he won’t fit to us, I think.

Thank good you’re not manager, Toony 😉

I don’t want to see Deco in our squad. He was class in Porto for Mourinho. Then faded away in Barcelona. He is getting too old to reignite the same game he used to have in his best days. Yes, still a major player, but van der Vaart is way, way better for this position.
I also think the major factor that would motivate Deco for a transfer here would be money. And we don’t really want such players here, do we?

Deco, good signing imo. 30 isn’t that old if you remember Peter (Pan) Beardsley played some of his best games for the Toon while he was in his 30’s.

Trust KK, he’ll need time but he WILL improve us , no doubt about that!!!!!

Toony, where is Kaka, Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo? We don’t need Given, we should get Buffon. How about buying the whole Man Utd and Arsenal squad? Save the trouble.

Juninho, Van Bommel, Crouch, SWP, Heitinga, Sorin, Rothen. To name but a few on my wish list but only a couple of real possibles. Would certainly have Juninho before Deco though. I still only expect one possibly two big signings this window.

Bah, the chronicle knows dick all man!
Keegan and Mort will have their own list and we’ll only find out once they have them

Deco is quality but it’s rightly pointed he’s getting on a bit

Van der Vaart is class but seems to be injured a lot. Isn’t he missing a piece of his knee?!

Ye VDV is injury prone, obviosuly id love him at the toon, dont see it happening, ever!

    van Buyten – CB
Zhirkov – LB/LM – Very skillful, duff can play well on the right.
Chikhaoui – Like a VDV, but cheaper, more realistic, younger and potentially better with the right treatment.

I hope Kev doesnt over spend and buy over priced players just for the sake of it.
