Ameobi – Fantastic to Have Keegan

Shola Ameobi played his first game for Newcastle United this afternoon since the Carling Cup defeat against Arsenal in September.

Shola Ameobi – partnered Owen up front today but had little impact

Shola partnered Michael Owen up front, but didn’t get much service from the midfield, although he did have a powerful header just clear the cross-bar in the second half.

Shola talked after the game to Setanta Sports One:

“Bolton played really well and defended really well. But that is the start of things to come.”“It is the second time for us, the fans and the manager.”

“I think you can see that in the two performances since he’s been here. It has lifted the crowd and the city.”

“It’s fantastic to have him here and play for him.”

There were rumors that Newcastle may sell Shola in January, but it’s very unlikely Kevin Keegan will let any player go this month.  We have quite a small squad and Kevin said he’d like to bring in 2-3 new players if possible.

However, we expect lots of transfer dealings in the summer, as Kevin attempts to build another successful side on Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

Ameobi should spend less time with the press and more time with training so he can impress whatever Championship side he’s destined for. Get out.

Taxi for Ameobi, and far too late.

I cannot believe how often Ameobi handles, its like he tries to catch the ball.
Shame because Shola looked a half decent player under Robson but not good enough for the Toon I’m afraid.

I’ll be interested to hear Shearers contribution on Match of the Day tonight.
We were very average in the first half- and am assuming Bolton decided to preserve the point, or maybe nick it. They are a limited outfit who have just sold their best player- should’ve turned them over really.

Doesn’t this show the huge gap in class between the Premiership and the Championship.
Maybe Shola could try his hand, or foot, at Stoke!

Though he was crap (as usual) it seems he’s not played a game or even trained since September, that’s got to cut him some slack at least.

was never where you would expect a striker to be, always on the edge of the box, he should be nearer the center circle more and he may have some sucess

Im going to stick up for the guy. I like shola and too be fair to him he hasnt played in ages. Yeah he often wasnt in the right place today but that will change the more he plays. I hope he gets a good run in the team. He will score goals.

Shola Flip Flop how Steve Harper didnt start up front instead of FLIP FLOP is beyond me. Harps was great when tried in pre season as cf. Bye Bye Shola.

Guys! We really need to pump up Shola. We all know that this blog is ‘the oracle’ when it comes to trades, so lets make other teams aware of how important he would be to their side. (And maybe get a lil drink for him).

    (Great site btw Ed).

i thought rozenhal was terrific in the holding role last night. He handles and protecting the back four the best he could and join up the attacking when he is needed. Although i must admit that initially for the first 30 minutes he wasnt comfortable in it. But as king kev said in the press things can only get better for us. He was right in many aspects. He generally needs a major reinforcement to the squad although the current one is not bad. Here i draw up some sensible targets that he can refers on.

    Must get in JAN:

    1. Ashton
    2. wright philips
    3. convert rozenhal into a holding role, he has got the height for the upcoming stability in the middle.
    4. Deco

everyone on here seems to be slating Shola, quite unfairly i think. he was certainly off the pace, but hasn’t featured since September. considering that, i was actually impressed with his performance, and Roz’s. he was far better than Duff, Owen, Cacapa, and if i’m honest, Milner. i was encouraged by Shola’s potential under Keegan. i didn’t think Charlie was quite up to his usual high standard either. Taylor and Enrique were solid, as was Carr. liked what i saw out of Lua Lua, and i would much rather give him a few opportunities before WAISTING anything on SWP.

I can’t believe the people who visit this site are Geordies or truly Toon supporters.
In the last week I’ve read from at least one person that the following are are crap and have to leave: Viduka, Owen, Martins, Ameobi, Snith, Geremi, Butt, Milner, Barton, Carr, Cacapa, Rozenhal, Enrique and Given. I’ve probably missed someone.

This is our team. Ameobi is a Geordie and played his heart out and had a decent game today with almost no serice. Despite everyone on here seeming to think that N’zogbia can do no wrong (and I think like all of our players he’s got a lot going for him and I always support him when he’s playing for the Toon), neither he nor Milner can cross a ball or do anything else with it. He runs a mazy dribble now and again and I think in the second game of the season he scored a wonder goal but he’s talked about as if he was undroppable. Neither Ameobi or Owen had a decent pass from the wing all dayt. Ameobi comes back after injury and/or neglect and you would think he was a mackem! Ok, I got that off my chest. Goodnight!

Sorry Shearer’s the man but I must have been watching a different game, Ameobi playing his heart out, he couldn’t trap a bag of cement. He simply is not good enough.

It’s the nature of football, support your team to the hilt when they are playing and then afterwards look at what was good, what was bad and what needs changing.
