It appears that a player we have wanted ever since he was at Southampton is a major target of Kevin Keegan, and Chairman Chris Mort is already negotiating with Chelsea, to try to acquire Wayne Bridge in January.
Wayne Bridge – ridiculous he’s at the same club as Ashley Cole
The Daily Express today is reporting that new Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is interested in bringing the Chelsea left-back, Wayne Bridge to St James’ Park.
Bridge has made over 75 appearances for the London side scoring just one goal. But that goal, scored in the 88th minute against Arsenal was voted goal of the season for 2003-2004. So Wayne doesn’t score many goals, but when he does they are beauties.
Bridge joined Chelsea back in 2003, after leaving Southampton, but he is averaging less than 20 games a season at Chelsea, which is just not enough for a player of his caliber. That’s partly because Ashley Cole is now at the club, and he’s currently England’s preferred left-back. It just seems silly that England’s two best left-backs play for the same club. Newcastle can help rectify that situation. 😀
Before moving to Chelsea, Wayne played for his home town side Southampton 151 times and scored 2 goals. He’s 27 years old and stands 5’10” tall and he has represented England 21 times. He has also played 8 times for the England Under-21 side. While on loan at Fulham in 2006 he played 12 times for the Craven Cottage club and scored no goals, while recovering from a long term injury he picked up at St. James’ Park.
Bridge has been linked with several moves away from Stamford Bridge in recent years after the club signed Ashley Cole last year. He would be an excellent acquisition at Newcastle and it would also help his chances of playing for England more regularly.
