Newcastle United Want Wayne Bridge?

It appears that a player we have wanted ever since he was at Southampton is a major target of Kevin Keegan, and Chairman Chris Mort is already negotiating with Chelsea, to try to acquire Wayne Bridge in January.

Wayne Bridge – ridiculous he’s at the same club as Ashley Cole

The Daily Express today is reporting that new Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is interested in bringing the Chelsea left-back, Wayne Bridge to St James’ Park.

Bridge has made over 75 appearances for the London side scoring just one goal. But that goal, scored in the 88th minute against Arsenal was voted goal of the season for 2003-2004. So Wayne doesn’t score many goals, but when he does they are beauties.

Bridge joined Chelsea back in 2003, after leaving Southampton, but he is averaging less than 20 games a season at Chelsea, which is just not enough for a player of his caliber. That’s partly because Ashley Cole is now at the club, and he’s currently England’s preferred left-back. It just seems silly that England’s two best left-backs play for the same club. Newcastle can help rectify that situation. 😀

Before moving to Chelsea, Wayne played for his home town side Southampton 151 times and scored 2 goals. He’s 27 years old and stands 5’10” tall and he has represented England 21 times. He has also played 8 times for the England Under-21 side. While on loan at Fulham in 2006 he played 12 times for the Craven Cottage club and scored no goals, while recovering from a long term injury he picked up at St. James’ Park.

Bridge has been linked with several moves away from Stamford Bridge in recent years after the club signed Ashley Cole last year. He would be an excellent acquisition at Newcastle and it would also help his chances of playing for England more regularly.

Comments welcome.

Never really had a chance at Chelsea and would be a good move for both NUFC and him as his prospects of England recall would be much better.

We have the boy Enrique now and he looks a good prospect and is young. Leave Bridge down there I say, give the boy Enrique a chance.

    STOP THE PRESS!!
I just met KK with his wife at BP station in Gosforth.
He shook my little boy’s hand and told me a bit of team news. Viduka has declared himself unfit so Shola plays, with Rozehnal in Midfield.
Kevin was really sound, and as I drove away he said “Howay the Lads!!”
In a bit of a daze right now!!

Nice 1 Nick C, always used to bump into him n Terry Mac @ the Snooker club and occasionally the bar round the corner and he ALWAYS had time for the Toon Army, a real gent.

Adrian Swall, yes I noticed that too, how embarrassing.

Enrique does deserve a run and is an excellent left back when he finally finds his feet in this league. But what will make us great is competition for places. Which is why Bridge would be a good addition. Either that or Shorey.

After having no natural left-backs at all for a couple of years before Enrique, suddenly we’d have 4 if we get Bridge and you count the two youngsters we’ve signed (albeit they’re for the future). I feel that we should give Enrique more games too. Mind you, if Jose gets injured then we really shouldn’t put Zog at left-back because he’s wasted there, so there is a point to argue in trying to sign Bridge.
By the way, when the African Nations Cup is over, I hope KK understands how good Faye and Beye are, and not waste them whilst at the same time of course playing them the Keegan way. Beye could certainly be a KK style attacking rb, though I’m not quite sure how Faye will fit in if we sign a new centre-back…maybe he’d have to be on the bench as a versatile back-up sub?

must be ur pc Hadrian, I can’t see any difference.

Only thing about Bridge is that he’s turned us down b4 atleast once, usually I’d forget a player then but I do think he’d be a good signing.

    KK knows best though.

We have The Bull, why go for Bridge.
This is the main reason why Newcastle is never profiting on the transfer market
When you pay for someone 6 mill it automaticaly means that you should push him in the starting line-up and increase his transfer price
But if we bring Bridge and bench Jose then we wouldn’t be able to get even 4 mill for him if he gets frustrated from the lack of first team oportunities and decides to leave us one day.
With 30 mill chest we should go for
    1-Jovetic(Partizan Belgrade)-6 mill
    2-Rafael Van Der Vaart-14 mill
    3-Miguel Velloso-10 mill or Poulsen-8 mill

Bridge turned our previous managers down because they weren’t people he wanted to play for. Why play for Roeder when you can play for Mourinho.

For me, Enrique and Beye will be and should be our LB and RB for the next 2-3 years. Both of them are excellent. Beye has obviously settled in quicker, but Enrique will be terrific next season.

Under Keegan can’t see Tozer or Kadar getting near the 1st team for the PL. They will be used for the Carling Cup next season.

Huntaleer has been offered to Man Utd at £14 million but Manure are refusing to pay that much. They have offered £10 million which Ajax have turned down. Time to splash the cash on a number 9 Mr Keegan…..

we need players up the field. maybe a top class center back, someone like kompany because he is unbelieveably good.

jose is good as our left back, just needs to settle fully. amd learm the league

faye is a great center back, i cant believe people dont rate him, i think at the moment he is better than taylor. maybe not as good in the future but for now.

for midfield, why not try and get giles barnes he is a good hard working center midfielder.

Juninho or diego, would be sound as a pound haha. but highly unlikely.

if we could sign the hunter that would be ideal because he is a great striker.

hunter and bull in one team, sounds like the gladiators…. loved that program all those years ago
