Keegan Starting The Search For New Players

Kevin Keegan’s return to St James’ Park has the City of Newcastle Upon Tyne in an excitement it hasn’t experienced since the last time Kevin was at the club. Now Kevin will be looking for new players to bring into the club in January and compiling a dossier of players he will move for in the summer.

Kevin Keegan – compiling a dossier of players he wants at Newcastle United

Kevin left as manager in January 8th of 1997, and was officially announced as our new manager last Wednesday – 16th January, 2008 – just over 11 years later.

One of Keegan’s highest priorities to address during the remaining days of the winter transfer window is to bring 2-3 (or more) top players into the club. Keegan talked about this yesterday after the 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers:

“I haven’t spoken to anyone about anything other than the match today.”“I have spoken to a couple of agents who have rung about players.”

“It’s really from now on that things like that have got to happen, because the priority has been this match and trying to get a result, which we sort of half got with a 0-0.”

Gary Megson was also asked after the game is he thought Kevin could turn things around quickly at the club and Gary replied:

“Yes, but not short term, because he has got to work with the same players.”“But I am sure that the ambition of the place and the fact that I don’t think Kevin would have come here unless he had got some kind of guarantee of the type of player he is going to go for.”

“Short term, he has got to get a bit of an improvement, but long term, I am sure he will be up there with the big boys again.”

There are some good signs in the press about some of the players we may be after – but of course you also know some of these are going to be made up by the popular press. So far, we have seen reports we may be interested in the following players:

Michael Carrick – Manchester United
Wayne Bridge – Chelsea
Wes Brown – Manchester United
Deco – Barcelona
Jermain Defoe – Tottenham Hotspur
Johan Elmander – Toulouse FC
Barry Robson – Dundee United
Shaun Wright-Phillips – Chelsea
Carlos Cuellar – Rangers
Sol Campbell – Portsmouth
Daniel van Buyten – Bayern Munich
Marek Cech – FC Porto

We’d take most of those players above, although we don’t know too much about Barry Robson of Dundee United, who apparently is available for under £1M – so that seems a little strange to us.

But who do you think should be on Kevin’s dossier of players to bring to the club?

Let us know – comments and players very welcome. Maybe Kevin will even look through this blog to get some ideas (just kidding). 😀
Comments welcome.

I think if there’s any chance of getting Deco we should go for it. That would be making a huge statement of our intentions.

Gimme 2 6ft plus centre mids (aged in their early to mid 20’s) who can pass and ping em from distance.. don’t care where they come from and how much they cost. Can we get Jenas back?

Forget Deco. He’s 30 and just wants a final big pay cheque.

If we are going for a Barca player go for Dos Santos. Only 6 months of his contract left and the next wonderkid. He is superb and would light up SJP.

They aren’t going to let Dos Santos go, no way. Plus I can’t see the player wanting to leave either.

I would tear my hair our if we get Jenas back.

Fellaini – 6ft 5 CM, not a bad long shot, rocket header, still only 21.

Barry Robson looks a good player, and for 1.5m or whatever it is sounds like a right bargain. Would much rather see them try to buy Diego from Werder Bremen than Deco or Carrick, better value for money and alot younger.

Please dont spend 18m on Carrick!

AdamCF – can we get Jenas back? Exactly what were you smoking last night?

Selling Jenas was probably the best bit of business this club has ever done.

So – to answer your question, yes we probably could get him back. Should we? Not in my lifetime!

Have not watch Barca play lately. But I am also a bit worried about Deco as he is approaching the end of his career and it is unknow if he could adopt to the EPL.

Meanwhile, from the list above, I would say we will never surprise anyone as most of them are aviliable with a reason.

Nonetheless, I do agree the first signing would be very important as it will show ppl and potential signings of our intention.

Tom-Toon – Fellaini can’t follow the pace of the EPL; he sometimes has lots of troubles in the Belgian League. Also in our national team he is not the one that will play consistently.

I heard on Belgian tv that Keegan wants Van Buyten, I wonder. He is a good defender, but in the national team he often makes stupid mistakes. They compare him with Albert, but Albet was way batter than him.

Obafan – Obviously im not an avid watcher of the Belgian League, but ive seen a fair bit of him and in the national team, obviously he’s still young, get him now to adapt, hes got the talent to be great.

Manure, Spurs and Arse obviously thought he could follow the pace.

It’s not about today, is it TT.. it’s about tomorrow 🙂 Get ’em young.. mould them. Play them at their peak, then off load them. When was the last player we did that with? Normally we’re the one buying those players.

There’s a few foreign names being mentioned but one of the main criteria mentioned by Keegan was ‘ready made premiership player’.

He’s looking for experience in the league which would rule out a lot of the names mentioned above.

I’ve got a gut feeling that Mr. Ashleys agenda for Newcastle, apart from expanding the club (and maybe a new stadium) is to make the club a very English afair. Look out for the English talent being brought to NUFC.

JIm – A ready made premiership player is either a premiership player, or an immense player from abroad who can come straight in. Both ways we are paying over inflated prices.

    Indain-Toon, current equivalents are:

    rob lee – Micheal Carrick
    les ferdinand – Dean Ashton
    david ginola – Ronaldo
    peter beardsley – Carlos Tevez
    tino asprilla – Kaka
    batty – Owen Hargreaves

As you see, Man Utd have most of the players while KK prepared the original blue print.

    We need as a minimum:

    Wes Brown
    Micheal Carrick
    Wayne Bridge or Nicky Shorey
Dean Ashton or break the bank and go for Berbatov

    david ginola- Quaresma-Simao-Silva
peter beardsley – Van Der Varrt- Nassi – Diego
    tino asprilla- Totti – Podolski
    batty- Danielle De Rossi

Out of all that, could we seriously at this momment of time sign any of the above players?

Jason – we could get Huntaleer. He quotes Shearer as one of his idols growing up.

But we would have to pay a lot to get him £15-20 million.
