Marek Cech Wants Newcastle Move

FC Porto’s left-back Marek Cech is attracting the interest of Premiership clubs Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic but he admits openly that it’s Newcastle that really interests him.

Marek Cech – Porto’s left back wants move to Newcastle

The Slovakian recently regained the left-back position with the Portuguese champions, but has also said he would like to play in the Premiership. He is of course very quick to add that he is more than happy with Porto. That means he wants to move to Newcastle United but doesn’t want to upset his current club or their fans. 😀

Cech said in an interview to the Slovakian newspaper Pravada :

“I would welcome the opportunity to taste the Premier League, which is definitely of a higher quality than the Portuguese league,”“Perhaps I will move to Newcastle. But I would only leave Porto if I received a really good offer.”

“I’m trying to find a way to take that next step in my career and I do not feel that Newcastle are a step higher than Porto in terms of football hierarchy. Porto win trophies, participate in the Champions League and have even won it.”

It was believed that former Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce rated Marek highly, but since Newcastle have Kevin Keegan in charge now, Cech believes that any move is now down to Kevin Keegan. He’s right there and we think Cech would be one of the players that Chris and Kevin discussed on Thursday at the Benton training ground. But from the above statement it looks like he’s saying he doesn’t think Newcastle is a step higher than Porto.

If Kevin gave the OK then Mort could be talking to Porto about the player right now.

Cech continued:

“The problem now is that they have changed managers and it is difficult to predict what the new manager’s ideas are. I have established myself at Porto in these last two and a half years and I do not want to make a move that leads to uncertainty.”

Marek has played for Porto 62 times scoring 2 goals since 2005. Before that he played 18 times for Sparta Prague form 2004-2005. From 2000-2004 played 71 times for Inter Bratislavia scoring one goal. He is 6’0″ tall and turns 25 on January 26th this year.

    Marek Cech:

    Good Points:
Allright at getting forward and has a half decent cross and shot.

    Bad Points:
    Everything else.

I mean look at chelsea, they snapped up Joe Cole, Veron, Crespo, Glen Johnson, etc etc when they got lots of money, now we have, and were going for someone who WIGAN want??? What?

We should be chasing Deco, Wayne Bridge, Richard Dunne, SWP, Diego, Berbatov, Defoe, Crouch, and loads more! Come on NUFC.

Nooooo, we hav Enrique now, we doesnt need any new LB. wat we need now are exp. CB and MID.

Go for Rafael van der Vaart… He will be excellent signing for us…

It seems like he was an Allardyce target and know that we’ve switched to Keegan, Cech is trying to get his name out there. Keegan is probably not interested.

Waiting on my mate in Potugal ( Porto fan) to give me his opinion.

First impression is he’s a BSA player but maybe that’s not so bad as he’s a defender ! Lol

Idd Tom but my mate is as mad about porto as we r about the Toon so I also value his opinion.

Funny I was just saying to him yesterday that we’re gonna steal his best players lol but I’d be surprised if he’s one. What Pt team u support? not porto obviously?

He keeps raving about their play maker but can’t remember his name (and lost utube link I had of him)do you know?

Benfica, im not fully portuguese, got ties to portugal, watch some of the league and suuport the national football team though.

He most likely on about Lucho gonzalez.
He could be on about Miereles but he hasnt been as good as he has shown lately.

I don’t think so, Newcaste have enough dodgy defenders as it is. The last thing that’s needed is a big headed bad defender.
