Micah Richards and van Buyton on Keegan Radar

The Newcastle Sunday Sun is reporting today that Newcastle United have launched a bid to bring Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards to the club.

Micah Richards – played for Keegan at Manchester City

And the Newcastle manager has also enquired about Bayern Munich 6’5″ center-back Daniel van Buyten.

Keegan has admitted he has spoken to a couple of agents about players, since starting his second spell as Newcastle manager last Wednesday and we reported earlier today.

But the Sunday Sun is identifying those two agents as those who represent Richards and Belgian star Van Buyten. Both players of course have played under him at Manchester City, with Van Buyton there on loan in 2004.

Keegan is hoping he can lure Richards to Tyneside, with a top wages deal plus the opportunity to play for the new Newcastle United, which has to be an attraction to most players.

Richards is said to want to raise his weekly wage from £15,000 to £70,000, but Manchester City are reportedly offering £45K a week.

Meanwhile, while Belgian center-half Van Buyten will fight for a first-team place at Beyern, Keegan has not been put off from making a move for the 29-year-old by his agent (surprise, surprise – more money for his agent).

The 29 year old Daniel Van Buyten was impressive for Keegan during a loan spell at Manchester City in 2004, and the player’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, told the Sunday Sun today:

“There is interest from Newcastle – an enquiry has been made.”

“At present, Daniel has a job to do with Bayern and he would like, even if he is not playing at the moment, to do his job there.

“But I have said to Kevin (Keegan): ‘Anything can happen. The truth today is not the truth tomorrow.’

“Daniel wants to keep going with Bayern, but he wants to know about Kevin’s situation over there.”

“He is very glad that Kevin is getting information on him. He appreciated Kevin’s management at Manchester City.”

Keegan is also said to be interested in Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge and winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, who also played for him at Manchester City, and we have already reported that interest.

Blackburn’s David Bentley and Dundee United’s Barry Robson are other midfielders said to be on Kevin’s list of potential acquisitions. So the number of players we are linked with grows yet again.

We’ll keep a list , for the sake of posterity, and publish it at the end of January, when we know exactly who will have already joined the club.

Some of those mentioned of course will be targets for the summer transfer window too, when it should be a little easier to get them to Newcastle United. So Kevin continues his search for players to play in his second coming as manager. 😀

Comments welcome.

Cant see Richards joining, wouldnt mind van Buyten, hes not world class but pretty solid, probably a tiny bit better than Faye but better suited to the prem than Rozehnal and Capaca.

No chance of Richard coming to the TOON as much as i’d like to see it. Yes we have money but so do Chelsea, Man Utd etc and they would be more likely to get him if he decides to leace Citeh.

I think it’s great for the Premiership, but I’m not actually sure if Keegan is a God or a Fool?

I wrote an interesting piece in my blog, would like your opinions.

    Cheers.

This is a load of rubbish. In the future Ed, maybe you shouldn’t look to The Sun for rumoured signings?

Richards won’t join us, he’s already at a better team and they won’t sell,

By the way why do you keep spelling “Buyten” wrong?

Richards won’t be coming. Man City won’t want to lose him and if they were to let him go one of the big boys would snap him up.

We should be going for Van buyton,Dunne,Van de Vart and SWP

Micah Richards is a class act. Imagine him alongside Steven Taylor. We would have the future England center-backs in our own backyard. What a partnership that would be!! Keegan can make it happen and by offering more cash than the rest I am sure we could sign him. All the players above would be magnificent but Richards would be the best choice to sort out our defense, for now and the future.

We should be after Richards, Berbatov, SWP, Bentley, Deco and Bridge. If we could sign all of them before next season gets underway we could qualify for the champions league, no doubt.

Id love to get bentley and if the rumours about berbatov supporting newcastle as a kid are true d love to get him. I dont think we need a defender in the window to be honest. Capapa and roz seem to be getting more confindent and playing better since kev arrived and we got faye coming bk who was playing well. Another center mid would be good but shouldnt pay 18 mil for carrick.

God, so many people on here have got high expectations with players just cos we have more money now, we’ve go to lure them, keegan has the gift of the gab, but there is no european football for them, that is a huge downside when attracting the quality alot of you lot are talking about.

maybe so tom_toon, but if we have a good run towards the end of this season, get seventh for example, then we will also be in europe next season… its totally possible if we get a cupl e(2 or 3) good signings in the next week or so. dont you think?

Bentley, Richards, these are the players we should be going for, good players in smaller clubs than us, just like Joe Cole at West Ham, Rooney at everton etc etc, we need to go for smaller clubs best players, before Sven, Richards would have come here, I know it.

Van Buyten is a class defender, no nonsense, also get in Van Der Vaart or Deco or both along with Bentley.

totally agree Tom_Toon, when i see people saying we should sign Van der Vaart, Richards, Company, Diego and such it really pisses me off. You think these would come to St James ?? think again, they would laugh in our face. Maybe later after a few high finishes, good Uefa runs and an FA cup or two.

Micah Richards on £15K unbelievable, been very good this season and would be a great buy BUT this is just press speculation and the Sunday Sun @ that lol.

Like the list of managers, the list of players linked with us is getting a bit crazy.

KK (and MA) will deliver though.

Richards for £70K a week? We had better give Taylor a nice raise. I would rather we go after Dunne. Richards would not be sold in any case.

Keegan said he wants 3 players with no settling in time by the way.

Bridge, Richards, Bentley, all good players, all have experience in EPL, Van Buyten has played in the EPL aswell so he will know what its about. These 4, they could be our main targets.

Id still sign Deco in a hearbeat.

ed, im starting to find most of your stories are just regurgatated ones i am reading in the press with no substance whatsover, most of us can read these too, i would much prefer to read things that you tend to have a little substance in your story, im finding myself just coming on here to read the comments now and no longer even bothering to read the articles. if the need for you to do this is for our more overseas based fans then fair enough, i understand they may want to have some things relayed to them, but maybe more facts than fiction would be better. we have 1 defender learning his trade that cannot agree a new contract, how on earth could they justify giving another one learning, a contract worth between 60-70k a week and play them both? impossible

Kompany is way better than Kaboul, lol, guys comparing him to Kaboul – you can as easily compare Shearer and Ashton 🙂 And he is way younger than Van Buyten.
Now if we look at what was said, seems Keegan could try for proven Premiership players, so how about these:

    Jimmy Bullard
    Paul Scharner
    Jason Koumas
    Kenwyne Jones
    Nicky Shorey
    Stephen Hunt
    Stewart Downing
    Steed Malbranque
    Aaron Lennon
    Dimitar Berbatov
    Matthew Upson
    Mark Noble
    David Bentley
    Sylvain Distin
    Sulley Muntari
    John Utaka
    Vedran Corluka
    Martin Petrov
    Wilfred Bouma
    Gabriel Agbonlagor
    Ashley Young
    John Arne Riise
    Joleon Lescott
    Leighton Baines
    Mikel Arteta
    Tim Cahill
    Florent Malouda
    Joe Cole

Tried to avoid those already mentioned. I don’t say these are the best in their position or we can buy them/attract them. Just players that have proven they can do a job at certain circumstances or have shown signs of great potential.
