John Arne Riise was tonight surprisingly left out of the Liverpool side against Aston Villa at Anfield, and was not even included as a substitute, raising the possibility he could be sold in the January transfer window.
John Arene Riise – are Liverpool willing to let the Norwegian leave Anfield?
The TV commentators on the broadcast tonight suggested that Aston Villa could be interested in Riise. However, there could also be the possibility that Newcastle United would like the left back or left sided midfield player to join the new Keegan revolution on Tyneside.
27 year-old Riise is an attacking full back and can also play on the left wing and seems the type of player who would fit well into Kevin Keegan’s 4-4-2 style of fast attacking play, down the flanks.
Riise of course has massive experience in both the Premier League and Europe, and would need no bedding-in period at Newcastle, which is another of Kevin Keegan’s requirements, for players coming in during the January transfer window.
Riise, who stands 6’1″ tall, has played 329 times for Liverpool scoring 31 goals. He has also played 68 games for his country, Norway, scoring 7 goals. As we said earlier, Riise can also play on the left wing, and has a tremendous left foot with which he has scored some classic goals.
We think Riise would improve our squad.
