Are Newcastle In For Liverpool’s Riise?

John Arne Riise was tonight surprisingly left out of the Liverpool side against Aston Villa at Anfield, and was not even included as a substitute, raising the possibility he could be sold in the January transfer window.

John Arene Riise – are Liverpool willing to let the Norwegian leave Anfield?

The TV commentators on the broadcast tonight suggested that Aston Villa could be interested in Riise. However, there could also be the possibility that Newcastle United would like the left back or left sided midfield player to join the new Keegan revolution on Tyneside.

27 year-old Riise is an attacking full back and can also play on the left wing and seems the type of player who would fit well into Kevin Keegan’s 4-4-2 style of fast attacking play, down the flanks.

Riise of course has massive experience in both the Premier League and Europe, and would need no bedding-in period at Newcastle, which is another of Kevin Keegan’s requirements, for players coming in during the January transfer window.

Riise, who stands 6’1″ tall, has played 329 times for Liverpool scoring 31 goals. He has also played 68 games for his country, Norway, scoring 7 goals. As we said earlier, Riise can also play on the left wing, and has a tremendous left foot with which he has scored some classic goals.

We think Riise would improve our squad.

What do you think?

Comments and opinions always welcome.

Not a bad player, seems to have lost a bit lately, scored more often in the past, hell of a shot though. Would you rather have him than say Shorey?

I’m just curious Ed, but why is it you always say “We think so and so will be good…”? For example, in this column you’ve written “We think Riise would improve our squad” when I’m under the impression this is purely your own opinion. Aren’t you the only one writing these columns?

Riise would be a brilliant buy for us, an attacking left back who scores loads of brilliant goals and a has a rocket of a left foot. Despite this I believe that Riise might be nearing his “use by” date. This story is probably speculation and sadly I don’t think he will be coming to the mighty toon.

Has KK confirmed talking to any agents – Van Buyten’s agent confirmed that he has spoken with Keegan over his possible move to St James Park

Benitez is fond of tinkering(squad rotation) his squad. What is so surprising about leaving Riise out?

To me, this is yet another opportunity for the media to speculate.

I for one hope this is not true. I’ve seen Riise play many times this year and he looks like a shadow of what he used to be, not even sure why, seems like he’s lost confidence or something. Signing Bridge or even Shorey and keeping Zogger at left wing would sound better. No to Liverpool trash!

i think riise is quality but aurelio’s own goal from 12 yrds just now might put an end to any deal. would want riise as a LB thought not a LM!.
