Newcastle United manager boss Kevin Keegan will only bring those players into the club in January who he thinks can improve the team and take them to the next level. And he admits the fans could hardly have been excited by last Saturday’s performance.
Kevin Keegan – common sense from the boss
Kevin is adamant that he will not bring in players in January, just for the sake of it. Newcastle’s result against Bolton on Saturday was disappointing, and although the team attacked continuously during the second half they didn’t look too potent and there was not cutting edge. Bolton, in truth, didn’t have too much trouble in containing the Newcastle threat.
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle today Kevin said:
“It’s no good collecting players. All the players here are useful to us.â€
“Can we just get one or two who can take us to the next level along with the one’s we’ve got? I think we can.”
Although Keegan was disappointed with Saturday’s 0-0 draw, he is of course still very excited about the challenges that lie ahead on Tyneside:
“No excuses but this team got beat 6-0 a week ago, this team lost to suspension three key players and already lost four to the African Nations Cup.â€
“So if you add all those things together and you see the quality of the side we could still put out, and the fact we can bring people in, that’s the exciting thing.â€
“But you couldn’t get excited about the football we played.”
Good common sense from the boss – and now in a short 10 days we’ll get some idea of the caliber of players Kevin will be targeting – the very best we hope.
