Cannot Get Excited About Football We Played – Keegan

Newcastle United manager boss Kevin Keegan will only bring those players into the club in January who he thinks can improve the team and take them to the next level. And he admits the fans could hardly have been excited by last Saturday’s performance.

Kevin Keegan – common sense from the boss

Kevin is adamant that he will not bring in players in January, just for the sake of it. Newcastle’s result against Bolton on Saturday was disappointing, and although the team attacked continuously during the second half they didn’t look too potent and there was not cutting edge. Bolton, in truth, didn’t have too much trouble in containing the Newcastle threat.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle today Kevin said:

“It’s no good collecting players. All the players here are useful to us.”

“Can we just get one or two who can take us to the next level along with the one’s we’ve got? I think we can.”

Although Keegan was disappointed with Saturday’s 0-0 draw, he is of course still very excited about the challenges that lie ahead on Tyneside:

“No excuses but this team got beat 6-0 a week ago, this team lost to suspension three key players and already lost four to the African Nations Cup.”

“So if you add all those things together and you see the quality of the side we could still put out, and the fact we can bring people in, that’s the exciting thing.”

“But you couldn’t get excited about the football we played.”

Good common sense from the boss – and now in a short 10 days we’ll get some idea of the caliber of players Kevin will be targeting – the very best we hope.

Good call Rich it is nice to see a manager of ours finally willing to say “Yeah we weren’t good enough, and we’ll work on that”. Rather than Sam’s excuse of “A draw is a god result”….no it’s not mate. Keegan knows that us Geordies know our football so he doesn’t bother trying to appease us with rubbish he tells it how it is. If he can get a couple of good signings in now then I think we can finish top half. Don’t expect miracles though.

i totally agree, there is no point in bringing dead wood into the club, e.g. (smith & barton) – i think keegan will get alot more out of the current squad – esp. when the likes of beye, martins and faye are back – i think we can realisitcally hope to achieve a top 8 finish, with which i would be very happy – given the rather large gap that now exists between us and the top half!

it was a very honest assesment about saturday and he was right. but lets be honest, he only had 2 days with the team before this game, so his style of play aint going to transfer to the players in 2 days, but we all know keegan and it will happen. we just did not have anyone who could turn the game, create a chance for us, but keegan will bring in players no doubt about it and we can only get better.

3 days in the job, 8 first team players missing and we’d played football on the deck to a very disciplined side. We didn’t concede for the first time since when? Sam wudda been proud of both sides.

I’d like KK to take his time and ensure we inject some real star quality in our midfield. There is no rush.

Millipede – ”im happy with the substantially better quality players we are now being linked with! ”

What exactly are you basing this on….. the incessant witterings of alan oliver and the rest of the london based journo twats, or on this web site which no offence doesnt know its arse from its elbow so therefore are definately not in the loop as far as KK’s poitential buys.

Its all complete speculation…….i know…..were gonna put a bid in for Kaka and Ronaldinho.

It was a point and a clean sheet fgs !!!!!!!!!

Ha ha ha thought I was BSA there for a minute.

Honesty is back at SJP and what a refreshing change. KK I get the impression likes the squad here and will want to take his time with them so he can see if they are good enough to fit in with his “bigger plan”.

I agree with all KK’s comments bar calling Butt/Smith/Emre “key players”. However, I reckon it could be a wise move to state this to the press as he did – to not lower the moral. Then it’s a completly different matter what KK in reality thinks about said three players.

It feels like we have rosier times ahead.
