Keegan Immediately Taken to Ashley

Kevin Keegan met Newcastle Owner Mike Ashley for the first time last Wednesday morning, and it seems like Kevin immediately took to the new owner, who surprisingly seems to have very little ego, given he’s a Billionaire.

Kevin Keegan – back home and waving to crowd on Saturday

The fact that Mike has both appointed Kevin Keegan as manager, and that Kevin seems to admire Mike, will do a lot to convince any doubters that Mike Ashley will be Newcastle United Owner for the long term, and wants to make them into a top side.

“I’ve never met anyone like Mike,” “He’s different, for sure, but I like him a lot. You get used to dealing with egos in this game, but he hasn’t got one and I think he’s an incredible man.”

“I think this club has a fantastic owner and if we could get this club going we’ll have the best owner in the country, I believe that. People like Mike don’t turn up at football clubs every day of the week.”

Keegan is also very determined to do all he can to bring success to Newcastle United so that Ashley’s interest in top-class football is maintained at the club. Good thinking by Kevin. 😀

“Mike has given us great responsibility,” “We’ve got to make sure we encourage him to stay in this for the real long haul. If we’re successful, he will, so we don’t want to do anything that makes him despondent.”

“That’s the challenge for us. He doesn’t want to be in there (in the boardroom), he wants to be out there with the fans and that’s fantastic. He trusts us to get on with it and I hope the faith he has in us can be repaid.”

But Keegan has little time to strengthen the squad he inherited from Allardyce, since the January transfer window runs out a week on Wednesday (10 days). However, we’re sure Chris Mort, who looks a better and better chairman every time we see him, is working extra hard to bring in the players Kevin has identified he wants in January.

Who are they?

Take your choice from the following players, who have all been mentioned so far:

Michael Carrick – Manchester United
Wayne Bridge – Chelsea
Wes Brown – Manchester United
Deco – Barcelona
Jermain Defoe – Tottenham Hotspur
Johan Elmander – Toulouse FC
Barry Robson – Dundee United
Shaun Wright-Phillips – Chelsea
Carlos Cuellar – Rangers
Sol Campbell – Portsmouth
Marek Cech – FC Porto
Nicky Shorey – Reading

The list gets bigger by the day of course, and some of these will be summer targets too.

Comments, ideas and opinions about Newcastle, and our stories are always appreciated.

Am I the only one noticing that quite a few English players are being linked to our English club with our new English manager and English owner…?

I like the way this has come about with the king coming back, if Dale Wintons fat double was still in charge, i would question the reason Mike Ashley bought the club in the first place, but he has done the right thing. ONE MIKE ASHLEY!!

in my heart i’d love us to bring in berbatov, richards and deco/van der vaart this month, but my head tells me thats about as likely as us winning the league this season 😉

interesting times ahead though, get a bit of quality in the middle so we can actually play some nice passing football for a change and i’ll be happy for now.

KK is right, Mike is right and don’t forget about our young and so far pretty smart looking chairman Mort!

Well I hope we will get quality out of our money. The big names (DECO) are maybe not good, becouse their days propably have been gone and they look for money to fund their retirements…

I would cut down the list to really PL class players who are worth to wear a black and white shirt and if it’s 3 PL class players (like KK stated he’s would be after) for me these are undoubtedly:

nicky shorey is a better bet than bridge, who has looked well out of his depth when called upon at times for chelsea.

i used to rate bridge highly, but he seems another player whose career stalled by going to chelsea.

Keegan’s war chest doesn’t sound that good when you hear we would have to pay £40 million if we wanted Kenwyne Jones, Roy Keane says he’s worth that!

Leo, no your not m8, If you look back at the teams KK had for us in the past you will notice alot of English/British players and I think he’ll do similar this time.

As for MA, resident Geordie no problem 🙂

time and again i point out that newcastle dont have a goalscoring midfielder in the mould of gerrard or fabragas or lampard or ronaldo do yous get my point al the elite clubs if ya like have free scoring midfielders some sides 2 or 3 we cant just rely on dinamite strikers so i hope keegan uses his sence and brings in either riqulme or juninho from lyon these guys are carbon copies of beardsley the player who made newcastle tick when we where at are very best so it is imperritive that a player of this calibre is bought at any cost 2 take the first steps to glory.
