Our Czech 6’3†defender David Rozehnal seems happy that Kevin Keegan has taken over at Newcastle, and there are some growing rumors in the South, that Sol Campbell may be on his way to Tyneside.
David Rozehnal – Keegan already given squad confidence
We already have many many central defenders abut apart form Taylor and Faye not too many more have impressed this season although Cacapa keeps looking the part sometimes.
Rozehnal feels the performance against Bolton was full of positives and David did OK in the central midfield role, especially in the second half when he started to spray the ball about.
David told the Evening Chronicle today:
“We have a chance of some glory still,†The new manager has given us a lot of confidence and we have some dreams again.”
“He is a friendly guy and has the same attitude as a player. “We are hoping to work hard and we want to play football, football and more football – that will help us.â€
Reflecting on the chance he missed in the second half Rozehnal said:
“It was a great cross but I was a little bit ahead of the ball.†“Had I touched it a different way it would have been a lot more dangerous.â€
“Maybe if I played in midfield more often I would have more confidence in that situation.â€
Jlloyd Samuel forced Shay Given into a fine save with his left foot on the 90 minute and but for that we wouldn’t have looked that good if Bolton had snatched the game then.
“Shay made a great save.†“Had they scored right at the end I would have been really disappointed.â€â€œWe were better than them.â€
“It was better chance than we had, but it’s great that we had Shay there to make those saves.â€
Still on the center half front there are growing rumors in the South that Portsmouth’s Sol Campbell may want to join Newcastle United. His girlfriend is a Geordie, and certainly Campbell could do a good job on Tyneside for Keegan for at least a couple of years, and help steady our defense.
Portsmouth insist Sol Campbell missed Saturday’s game with Derby due to injury, but was then apparently he was seen out shopping in nearby Winchester. Campbell would love one last fling at Newcastle and keeps saying that he doubts Portsmouth’s ambitions.
Nobody doubts Newcastle United’s ambitions under Ashley, Mort and Kevin Keegan – that’s for sure.
Of course Newcastle should have got Sol on a free transfer 18 months ago, when Portsmouth stepped in, but Roeder at the time thought his best years were behind him, and he wanted somebody younger.
We have no idea if the Campbell rumors – first brought out by the Times today are true, but we hope they are. 😀
Comments and opinions always welcome.
