Newcastle Now Interested in Dean Ashton

We were just waiting for this one to happen as the Daily Mirror says Newcastle United are now interested in West Ham’s Dean Ashton, in a deal thought to be around £7M. That would be a decent price for the Swindon-born 6’2″ 24 year old.

Dean Ashton – Newcastle interested again in striker

But Newcastle have been linked with Ashton for quite a long time and therefore we don’t know how much truth there is in this report but of all the younger strikers we’ve seen Dean looks most like an Alan Shearer type of player with a good eye for goal. Dean has also played for Norwich City, and started his career at Crewe Alexandra.

He has not played a lot at West Ham since he arrived there in 2006, and would like more starts, so there may be a possibility for capturing him in the January transfer window. Time, however, is quickly running out as the window closes a week tomorrow.

We certainly need another big striker, and although Portsmouth have been linked with a move for one of our strikers, Shola Ameobi we don’t think the club will sell, at least not in January.

We think Kevin will try to get another striker in during January and then see how his strikers shape up for the rest of the season before deciding who to let go and who to bring in during the summer.

What do you think?

Let us know – comments always welcome.

i think the mirror is the same paper that told us we were going for beckham yesterday, cos he’s sponsored by the same company that makes our shirts ………..

haha yeah so we should just discount them….

but maybe ashton is more realistic, and wasnt put in the papers like the beckham story simply to sell papers

Ashton is good striker when he plays.. but thats the thing.. WHEN he plays..

With our injury jinx woo doo curse track record I wouldnt want to play too much for him.. but maybe a straight swap with Ameobi?? (yeah yeah unrealistic I know..)

most of the papers dont have a clue what there writting and only say these sort of things to sell their paper, look at the manager incident b4 keegan was appointed, so many names linked by all but keegan and harry were true. the best bet is to just w8 n c what happens over the next week without paying attention to the newspapers…

If we got all the players we were linked too, we’d be the best side in the world & we’re not by a mile!
I just wish they’d leave us alone to get on & buy some decent players without all this bull, as I’m sure it doesn’t help finding your name in a paper & supposedly transfering to the TOON everyday!!
Well get some players in, maybe not in this window but we’ll get some in the summer, so don’t expect anything like winning cups or places in Europe this season at least!!!

I would love us to sign Ashton him and Owen would be great!! I remember shton saying he would love to play for us a while back anyway so could be more substance to it!

He’s not injury prone anyway, he broke his ankle and has had a couple of niggles which is normal from a long lay off!!

But we desperately need some creative midfielders!!

what do we want another striker for.we already have six, dukes, owen, oba, shola, smith and carroll.we need players in midfield to create chances for them,we need to break the bank for a midfield general who can pick a pass run all day and score goals like rob lee used to and garry speed.

Why Ashton?Yes he is a decent player but IMO
We need creativity in the short term. A couple of Creative/attacking Midfielders and a dominant CB would do me for now!!!
LB/RB can wait then in the Summer, have a look at your striking options and other weak areas of the team!!!
We arent going to win anything this year, so lets just consolodate and finish as high as we can upo the league!!!
IN THE SUMMER WE CAN HAVE FUN!!

Trojan i cant see the toon letting Carol go m8 he scored a hatrick last night for the reserves so i cant see that happening i wouldn’t mind Ashton or Crouch but defenders we need and a creative midfielder.

Yeah i like Ashton… I also like Crouch.
Not too keen on Viduka, think his betters days have gone now.
This may be contraversial but I still don’t really like Martins….and would be happy if someone wanted to buy him off us. (people who disagree fair enough its just my opinion… I think Bellamy was better)
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see who we get…
    I can’t wait!
The futures looking bright the futures looking Black and White!

I would be glad if he comes to NUFC. If I have to choose between him and Crouch; I defo go for Ashton.

The end of the month is coming fast 🙁

Ashton would be a good signing. General concensus in pundit world is that he’s another Alan Shearer. Talking of Shearer, he said he rates Ashton, but then he also rates Kenwyne Jones from the scummers down the road, so what does he know! 😉

If Martins misses a lot of chances then Ashton misses even more chances.

Ashton would be a good buy. Sell Owen, Shola, Duke, buy Crouch as well.

A couple of good mid field players who can play the ball around and we would be fine untill the summer.

I think it could wait till the summer because we need someone to make some chances first. I think he’ll be getting pissed of with Curbs tactic of not playing him away and having Cole on his one.

I’d love to see it happen in the summer though because he is top class in my opinion. Best target man in the country and he scores goals and some great goals as well. His first touch is great and is an all round skilful player. If he can stay fit I think he can establish himself in the England team.

Go get him even with his injury history. Same goes for Woodgate. Two great additions to the depth of squad we will need to challenge the top 4

ashton is superb, but most of you are like me being realistic. we need defenders and midfielders! ok dukes hasnt shown his full ability yet but under kk im convinced him and owen will be a great partnership (if we keep them both fit) also with smudge and oba, we dont need another big monet striker!
is anyone else excited by the woodgate rumours? despite being injury prone, still the best defender we have had, i was gutted when he went! for me id also love to see bentley at st james’. sure blackburn say he’s not for sale, but if we tabled and offer that could tempt them???

Should we really be looking to fork out 7million for a bloke who can’t break through into West Ham’s starting 11?…Id prefer it if we went all out for a player like Pandev or Huntelaar…
