Transfer Time Running Out For Newcastle

Newcastle United have not signed any senior players in the January transfer window, and time is quickly running out with a short 8 days left in the January window for Keegan to add reinforcements to his Newcastle United squad.

Kevin Keegan
– working hard with his staff to bring in new players

There’s news that Kevin Keegan, Terry McDermott and Arthur Cox are pouring over player videos at the Benton Training ground, in an attempt to identify players who we could either bring in during January, or have Chairman Chris Mort go after for the summer.

The priority of course is now, and time is running out quickly although, as we would expect, the number of players we have been linked with is long. Heaven knows how long that number will be during the summer as Kevin will get very serious about bringing in class to the club at that time. In January, here are just some of the players we have linked with.

Michael Carrick – Manchester United
Wayne Bridge – Chelsea
Wes Brown – Manchester United
Deco – Barcelona
Jermain Defoe – Tottenham Hotspur
Johan Elmander – Toulouse FC
Barry Robson – Dundee United
Shaun Wright-Phillips – Chelsea
Carlos Cuellar – Rangers
Sol Campbell – Portsmouth
Marek Cech – FC Porto
Nicky Shorey – Reading
John Arne Riise – Liverpool
Daniel Van Buyten – Bayern Munich
Dean Ashton – West Ham
John Arne Riise. – Liverpool
David Beckham – LA Galaxy
David Bentley. – Blackburn

We’d have hoped we could get 3 good players in during January, but as every day passes by, the chances of that happening realistically are reduced. But we’re still hoping – and praying.

What do you think?

Let us know – comments and opinions welcome – just keep the language decent for the kids.   😀

The problem is a frustrating one for Newcastle, because we can now afford any player both in terms of transfer fee and wages. But we cannot convince them to come to a mid table team with no european football this year or next.

Keegan has probably had a number of targets say no already. Some of the papers are claiming inquiries were lodged and turned down for :

    Micah Richards
    Nicky Shorey
    David Bentley
    Jermaine Defoe

Traditionally in Jan a lot of the deals go through on the very last day. So we still have a week to get some players in.

doesnt look like anything is going to happen this week , id assumed keegan would have went for a major signing to add to the momentum .
the fact that he’s watching videos tells you enough , he always liked to nick off and go watch games .
alot of realistic targets there , but i think we can assume there may be one transfer this window thats designed to shock and show intent .
dont be supprised if its tevez or javi esc , as ashley has contacts in those circles .

We still have time in getting the players in. As mentioned earlier, most of the transfer happen at the last day of the window. Of course, if we can get the guys come in earlier, it will serve us better.

Anyway, we shouldn’t rush into this matter. Sign the right players, and not for the sake of signing players. I think KK understand this more than any of us and thus he is taking his time.

I’d be happy if we waited until summer to do our business. We’ll not go down and KK will be able to have a good look at the squad when the African boys are back from Ghana. Very few good players are bought in Jan – but he could look at some loans. I read somewhere that Podolski may be availavle on loan from B. Munich as he’s worried not playing will affect his chances of playing in the European championship. This is the sort of deal that would suit the Toon at the moment

I would rather that we signed no one at all than to sign players like Hyypia, Barry Robson and Cech. A couple of the other guys would be great tho, since the likes of those players would lift the squad too

well said nobbys dad, these blogs and the media do my head in sometimes, they get you r hopes up all the time just to get dashed again and again.we all know we need a world class centre half, two world class midfielders and maybe move a few on but whos going to sell them half way through a season unless they are injured or out of form.anyway new players take time to gel even if we get them in.stick with what we got and go for it in the summer.

FRANKLY I AM SICK OF THE CONSTANT TALK AND HYPE.

GET SHEARER IN PLACE AS No2, THEN WE HAVE AN EXTRA SUPERSTAR TO ATTRACT PLAYERS!!!

TIME IS RUNNING OUT, YOU HAVE A BLANK CHEQUE…or so we are led to believe. SO SPURS’ BERBATOV, LIVERPOOL’s RIISE, and that’s a start. BREAK THE BANK FOR BERBATOV HE IS CLASS!!!!!!!!!

BUT LET’S STOP HYPE AND SHOCK EVERYONE WITH A BIG BIG NAME, VAN NISTOLROOY..woo would be shock, also I hate all the links to players that have been out with injuries, can’t we get someone who isn’t or hasn’t been injured!??????!!

Ameobi out – Johan Elmander in!

Toulouse doesnt play in Europe and the taste of premierleague would surely tempt him to join Newcastle.

Ameobi out….start talking sense man. Van Nistolrooy!! Playing at probably the best club in the World, in the European Cup, Real have a 10 point (I think) lead in the Spanish league.

Berbatov….off to Wembley next month – like it or not if he moves on it will be to a top class team – and we are a million miles away from being that. Yes it’s nice to dream, but we have to be realistic as well.

It annoys me that people are making outlandish demands like “we should be signing van nistelrooy” etc etc … some of you don’t seem to have any sense of realism at all! it doesn’t matter how much money we throw around, why would a first choice striker at real madrid leave for a mid-table premier league side that isn’t in europe!?

Podolski on loan would be an ideal signing, and a realistic target as he’s not first choice for bayern and looking for first team football.

berb is a toon fan. if we got shearer in and offered berb the no.9 shirt he might come. he’s not a kk player though, he doesn’t work hard and, although fantastic, does have very quiet games too.

Nobby’s DAD you my friend read my comment wrong, Van Nistolrooy was a exaample (as everyone knows Real would not sell him, and if they did it would be 50-100 million for him) but Berbatov is realistic, as he has stated in an interview not long ago that he loves Newcastle United and shearer was his hero, I think he would come, yes he is in the final of the carling cup (carling cup – NOT FA CUP) and yes he would be cup tied but we are going places now, maybe not next week, maybe not next month but next season is not out of the question to get/win something!!! So wake UP DUDE! We need to target good/great players…. and ones that aren’t injury prone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sky sports say that we have lodged a bid for Pandev. watched him play a couple of times and he is a very good all round attacking player.

if real gets drogba, they might sell him, but that’s not the point…

we must sign at least one player – a worldclass holding midfielder…if we get him, we have a much better squad already:

    given
    beye faye taylor enrique
    milner — n’zogbia duff
    martins owen

we need someone to break opponent’s attacks…we need someone who’ll lead our midfield…i’m sure milner, n’zogbia & duff will then show more…

our squad lacks of confidence…no wonder with smith & butt in midfield…opponents can easily get to our goal…we need to shut the access…and the best way is to do that in midfield!

just offer 20 mio for vieira..make him captain and we’ll finish 6th this season…

He isnt anything like Berbatov, if you were to compare him to a player in the prem it would be van Persie.
