Barton Back In Newcastle Squad for Arsenal?

Kevin Keegan plans to recall Joey Barton to his squad for the FA Cup 4th round tie at Arsenal on Saturday.

joey-barton-329.jpg

Joey Barton – could be recalled for Saturday’s game
The Newcastle manager wants to name the midfield star in his squad for the FA Cup game with Arsenal in London, and then ensure he gets back to Hampshire in time to beat his 7pm curfew at the clinic he is being treated at.

Keegan said:

“We’ve got lads to come back for Arsenal, and I’m looking forward to Joey Barton getting back as well.”

Barton has not played since before Christmas and is due to next appears in court in March on an assault charge. Joey however has been training regularly with the squad using a helicopter to fly him to and from Tyneside.

This has been brought up before, and as long as he can get back to Hampshire by 7:00 pm he’s apparently OK with the conditions of his bail. That would rule out any games like last Saturday’s 5:15 pm KO in Newcastle, but games in London would seem to be workable.

Since he’s apparently in limbo until his March court date, we suppose it’s best to get him back doing something constructive.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

This is gonna back-fire on Keegan big time.

JB is a nasty, vile piece of work. I will find it very hard to cheer on my beloved team whilst he is a part of it.

Come on Kev, do the right thing, show Joey the door – he’s already had more second chances than most of us have had hot dinners. And he’s a millionaire – just to add insult to injury.

    F’OFF JOEY – WE DON”T WANT YOU!!!!

geordie_jordan has it right,we have to support newcastle and while he is in the team we have to stay positive. He doesnt deserve to wear the black and white strips but we have to support the team.He will either play s*%t and be dropped or go out and show the form he had at man city, hopefully the latter.

Our name has been dragged through the mud enough with the likes of Bellamy, Dyer, Bowyer, the famous “rape” case, etc., we don’t need any more, put this guy on a free transfer and lets get some pride back.

I reluctantly agrree with geordie_jordan. I was gonna come on here and have a rant about him being a role model etc etc. But at the end of the day his private life’s his own concern and if Keegan thinks he’s better than the other players we have available then i’ll support him (on the field at least) 100%.

Were only gonna be in this situation for 3/4 times until Barton goes to jail (i’ll put good money on that) for 4-6 months as the majority of games are either after his bedtime or at home so he wont have time to get back in time.

Now’s the time for all supporters and players to stick together – for gods sake the worst thing that could happen is for NUFC supporters to boo Barton while he’s playing.

In response to chicken, I this may come back to haunt Keegan but while he’s available and Keegan wants him playing – lets support whoevers out on the pitch

Sorry Graham can’t agree. While I don’t advocate booing any player, we shouldn’t put him in the position where it could happen. There must be a line we shouldn’t cross in terms of who we accept to represent our proud team- remember that’s what the players selected are doing. Don’t you have any limits as to who would be unsuitable?

Cyprus Mag – yes I have limits, but at the minute he’s in excactly the same situation as he was when we signed him….. on bail.

Most fans didn’t have a problem with him when he played before all this happend, and i dont recall too many complaining about the penalty he scored in the last minute to beat Fulham a few weeks ago.

As Keegan said he’s been let down by him before but he’s also prepared to give him 1 last chance – why can’t the supporters?

We signed Duncan Ferguson, who was a convicted criminal who had already done time (he wasn’t always that good, granted) for his crimes.

We need to all stick together as a team. Its one thing the opposing teams fans booing Barton and generall taking the mick. Its a completely different one if its coming from our own fans. What would that do to not only the confidence of Barton, but to the rest of the players out on the pitch as well?

As for limits of players who are unsuitable, may I start with Shola – he’s not suitable to wear the shirt of Lemington Labour Club!

Other reported transfers today in the media :

Woodgate for £9m (set to sign)

Pandev (£11m) deal expected over the weekend

    Rise (£6.5m)

Luca Modric (£15m) – Arsenal wanted him but were put off by the price tag. Very creative player. Croatian.

Of course all of this could be nonsense, but are these players we want at SJP?

On a separate note, Wenger has said he will put Walcott out on loan. Anyone else agree with me that we should try and get him?

My thoughts are pretty plain and simple. These players are paid what they’re paid because of their marketability (on pitch performance and off). Whether they’re meant to be role models or not, NUFC need to take a hard stand and say that they don’t accept this sort of behaviour, whether it affects their on field performance also. He shouldn’t be picked, he should be fined by the club and shouldn’t even be in the squad.

why do we want walcott on loan? he’s like a worse version of oba. pacy as f**k but nowt else. i read an article today that described him as “little boy lost” an apt description from what i’ve seen of him this year. bags of potential but how far does that get you???

I agree with Chicken – he should be allowed nowhere near the pitch – and this will backfire on Keegan if he his selected.

The man is on bail for 2 counts of bodily harm and I think he should be kept on the sidelines until the court decision is made – what example to the kids is this!

Also, who the frig decided to splash all that money on the chump being ferried around everyone on a chopper! Big mistake Ashley!

Now I dont advocate booing the players at this stage (can you imagine the southern press headlines if they heard booing??!! However, as I cant account for every fan in the stadium, I think its shocking that Keegan will risk the chance of it happening!

I’m 100% behind Keegan and 100% in support of the owner/chairman, but if Barton gets on the pitch they will be making a mistake.

Chicken – Allardyce – thats about it. but nothing would give the national Newspapers more pleasure than us slagging off one of our players in front of 60000 people.

No, i dont like the bloke. No, he shouldnt be flown all over the place just so that he can kick a ball about. No, I dont personally think he should play any part in any game until he has either been proven innocent or guilty. But, yes, if he plays i will support him as a NUFC player for those 90 minutes – as should all of us

Mort turned the Barton transfer down 3 TIMES! And that’s according to Fat Sam. In the end Fat Sam managed to convince him that Barton’s bad days were behind him. A few months later and is in jail. And Sam is sitting on the beach with his big pay off.

Barton shouldn’t be allowed to play professional football.

Problem is because of the court case being put back to March, we have to pay his wages until then. So the club feels they may as well make him work for it.

In March he will be convicted and sent to prison for 6 months. This is what Mort is waiting for, because we can legally release him from his contract and not have to pay him anything.

Exactly Steve. There’s an opportunity for the likes of Lua Lua & Troisi who we may have to use. It’d be better press for NUFC to terminate his contract and provide this as an example to all young footballers. It won’t cost us goals and may just galvanise the team.

I think playing him is a bad move, it sends out the wrong messages to the us the other players and the world in general. It says that our club and supporters are prepared to sanction thugs and associated behaviour.
I might be an old fashioned f*rt but youngsters do follow the example of some of these so called stars and I am surprised that KK is happy to promulgate this sort of attitude.
I don’t think he needs to be in the team at present anyway. It’s not as if he adds any thing special to the team. (not that that should be a mitigating factor)
