Another player who can be added to the list of those Newcastle United are pursuing in January, is Tottenham’s right back Pascal Chimbonda.
Pascal Chimbonda – French International on Newcastle’s list
Right back Chimbonda has already said this month that he may have to leave the North London club soon, to get first team football:
“My future will be somewhere other than Tottenham after the club’s transfer activities this month”
Spurs have already signed right full-back Chris Gunter from Cardiff, and continue to show interest in Ranger’s Alan Hutton.
Kevin Keegan and Chris Mort, Newcastle’s chairman, are said to be working through a long list of targets and have identified Pascal Chimbonda as another potential signing in January.
Pascal was an unused member of the French squad at the last World Cup in Germany, and feels he has done what has been asked of him this season. He has even filled in at center-back under Juande Ramos, when selection crises have arisen.
But Ramos doesn’t seem to be a fan of the Frenchman, and thinks he has fallen short generally of the required standards, and is now ready to replace him. Chimbonda however, had an excellent game against Arsenal earlier this week, and that would have done his transfer possibilities no harm at all. Aston Villa are also said to be interested.
If Pascal is brought to Newcastle, he would have to fight it out with Habib Beye for the right-back position.
The 28 year old has played 54 times for Tottenham scoring 3 goals, and from 2005-2006 played 38 times for Wigan Athletic scoring 2 goals. From 19999-2003 Pascal, who is 5’11†tall, played 85 times for Le Havre (5 goals), before moving to Bastia where he played a total of 67 times and scored 4 goals.
Pascal, who was born in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe has played once for France in 2006.
