Newcastle Interested In Giles Barnes

The Daily Express is reporting that Newcastle United would like to bring in Derby County’s Giles Barnes.

Giles Barnes – Derby County’s 6’0″ 19 year old midfielder

This is the first time we’ve heard Giles Barnes being mentioned as a possible Newcastle target this month,  although Glenn Roeder was interested in signing Barnes a year ago.

The 19 year old Derby midfielder had recently been linked with a £5.5M move to West Ham, and it was thought the London club were favorites to sign the youngster.

Barnes, who was born in Barking, has played 74 times for Derby since signing as a trainee in 2005, and has so far scored 10 goals. He stands 6’0” tall and is a box to box player central midfielder.  He has played 12 times for the England Under-19 team scoring 7 goals, but has yet to play for the England Under-21 side.

Certainly what we’ve found in the last two games is that we need better central midfielders, to make Keegan’s attacking football work in the side, and we’ve been struggling in central midfield to dominate the play.

We think Giles would be a good buy for the club, but don’t know whether this story has any validity to it.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

Just more speculation i for one am sick of hearing about all these players being linked with us only for absolutely jack 2hit to happen, Woodgate looks likely to join Spurs which is a bit of a downer. Why doesn’t KK go for Hutton at least try and sign a defender or two as for Giles Barnes i’m not so sure, we need instant impact and Barnes will not bring that.

everyone listen i heard last night that kk is happy with the players he has and if he signs someone,he has too get rid of one from the let me repeat he is not going to sign anyone so everyone can quit talking about newcastle united’s transfers.(because there may be speculation but it is all untrue, and kk said that himself last night.) so everyone STOP SPEAKING ABOUT TRANSFERS AND GET OVER IT.)

oh keegan said so… just like mort and ashley said they will stick by allardyce…

giles barnes would make an imediate impact, it would get butt out of our team… thats a good enough reason for me.

if we get him at a young age and develop him as a player he can become a new gerrard, lampard, some somone who can score and creat loads of goals from midfeild and be wolrd class

I actually do not rate him very highly, hes got good potential but is never going to be great. We’ve been linked with Scott Brown and id realy like us to go for him.

This is the type of player we ought to go for.

Young, talented, and at a club with a lower standing in English football than us.
