Barton Substitute at Emirates Tomorrow

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has confirmed this afternoon that Joey Barton will return to the Newcastle United substitutes bench, for tomorrow night’s league game at Arsenal.

Joey Barton – on bench tomorrow night at the Emirates

The Liverpool born midfielder is currently awaiting trial over an alleged incident in Liverpool on December 27th, but it looks like there has been a change in Barton’s bail conditions, which now means he is able to play at the Emirates.

Previously, Joey had to report back to the Hampshire Clinic every night by 7:00 pm, where he is receiving treatment. That made it difficult for Joey to play in any games, although he has been training with the Newcastle squad in Newcastle every day, for at least the last week.

Kevin Keegan explained the situation today:

“Joey is in the squad for the Arsenal game and will start on the bench.” “We are very low on numbers at the minute and we might need Joey and I’d have no problems with bringing him on.”

“He has worked really hard in training and I do believe that we will make a plus out of a minus.”

“It’s not been a good time for him but if we can draw a line under this we can turn this into a positive.”

We think it’s almost a certainty that Joey will get some playing time tomorrow night, and if he does well, don’t be surprised if he could even be a starter against Middlesbrough.

We feel a bit uncomfortable with the position the club is taking with Joey, and while from a playing viewpoint we need him playing – Joey hardly deserves the chance he is being given by the club.

Comments welcome.

Yeh I fel a bit uncomfortable too. Oh to hell with it, lets give him one more chance under one more manager and see how he goes. Any more crap and he’s out (no payoff) and any jail term and he’s out (no payoff). If; and it’s another big if, Keegan can bring the lad round then all power to him. Wise might have some wise words for him too 🙂

yea okay on clean slate give him 1 more chance & lets him play in our CM/CAM to prove us wrong. Who knows if he has learned from his mistakes. Hopefullly he suits into that category of KK-style attacking football. Few more games will tell the better situation of his future with us.

Keegan – Do you live in Byker? Are you a Byker skiprat? Are you on the dole? Maybe the sick? Do you chat online regularly? When was the last time you had a job (excluding the paper round you did as a child when you went round and thieved shit loads of milk from peoples doorsteps)?

I like him too even though he’s a racist axe wielding psycho!!!!!

He ran the show at Man City and if he can play like that again he would definitely be an asset. Look at Jenas for Spurs, his running power has been immense for them, and if Barton can get his legs back then he’d be class for us!

Why is everyone slagging off Butt and saying Barton is better?? I am no real fan of Butt either, but he has been the only one in our team who can pick out a pass and not being afraid of being creative. It hurts me to say but Nicky Butt has been play better than some others in our first team. Barton is a good player IF he can fully concentrate on football and Newcastle. I don’t like the clubs stance at giving him another chance whilst his off-field problems are hanging around. Lets just hope this twat learns quickly to never do that sort of stuff again, lets hope he isn’t another pest like Bellamy or Dyer was giving a bad name to Newcastle United. IF he regains his form which once saw him compared to Steven Gerard then we have a great midfielder in the making. I just don’t feel confident that it’s gonna happen.

What now? are we children or are we passionate Newcastle fans wishing the best for our club? Get back to the matter in hand will you! Barton is a Newcastle player like it or not. He may have a small brain and a quick temper but to be honest I have seen him play some great football. If he can find that kind of form again and keep his nose clean then maybe – and I mean maybe we could have a real asset on our hands.

the word paki is only racist when it is in context… as i explained before, or did you not understand it. what is the difference if tom toon reads what he does about players or watches them… he does know alot about players that many of us have not heard about… name calling is boring grow up and move on, i will say no more on the subject
