Kevin Keegan is readying the Newcastle fans that it’s possible we’ll get nobody in during the January transfer window, which ends at midnight this Thursday.
Giles Barnes – Derby’s exciting young 19 year old midfielder
Kevin still has some interest in right-back Pascal Chimbonda of Tottenham Hotspur, and is still understood to be monitoring Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes, the young and promising 19 year-old midfielder. But the prospect of no senior players arriving on Tyneside this month is a realization that is setting in.  Â
Kevin Keegan told the Newcastle Journal this morning:
“It won’t be the end of the world if I get nobody,†“I think we’ve lost Woodgate, I would be delighted if I was wrong and I don’t think it’s set in stone yet but that’s my honest opinion.â€â€œI would have been quite happy just to have him in this transfer window, that would have been enough for me.â€
“Spurs can offer the chance to play in a cup final, they’re definitely in Europe this year and they’re definitely in Europe next year because they’re playing Chelsea in the Carling Cup final.†They can offer him that, which we can’t – unless we get a ferry!â€
We would be pleased if we get Giles Barnes, because he can play the flowing attacking football that Keegan is renowned for, and there’s no doubt he’s loaded with skill and potential. Chimbonda would be OK, but we’re quite strong at right back with Habib Beye, probably playing as well as anybody brought in last summer.
But there’s no doubt the news about Woodgate over the weekend has served as a cold wet blanket for Newcastle fans in this transfer window. Still don’t know why he would ever prefer Spurs to Newcastle.   Â
