The Yorkshire Post is reporting today that Dennis Wise’s future as Leeds United manager was in serious doubt, as Newcastle United are trying to get the 41-year-old to St James’ Park to be their new Director of Football.
Dennis Wise – new Director of Football at Newcastle United?
Newcastle are understood to have offered Dennis Wise a position within Kevin Keegan’s organization, and sources on Tyne-side suggest Newcastle officials are confident of completing a deal and agreeing compensation with Leeds United. Dennis is currently Leeds United manager and the team have done very very well this season.
Wise’s role at St James’ Park would be that of Director of Football, providing him with influence over lots of the Newcastle’s operations, but giving the former Chelsea midfielder no input into the day-to-day running of the club’s squad. Chris Mort, Newcastle Chairman, is keen to have somebody in place at the club, who can look after the recruiting of players, both experienced players, and also the youngsters Newcastle are scouting across the world.
So this would entail having tags on lots of players across the world, and managing a scouting network, which the club started to build during Big Sam’s short reign at the club. The network of scouts would then be responsible for identifying the up and coming players, and also experienced players, who could then be brought into the club. Newcastle brought three top teenagers into the club earlier this month, as part of that growing system.
Newcastle United have apparently now made the Leeds’ manager aware of their interest, and they are waiting to see if he will accept the bid to move to Tyneside.
Leeds are doing well this season, in spite of having 15 points deducted at the beginning of the season, and have now climbed to within a point of second position in the League One table. They had a 1-1 draw with Luton Town on Saturday. The Yorkshire side now have 45 points from their 28 games so far this season, and an excellent goal difference of 26.
This is not the first time Newcastle have been linked with Dennis Wise since Keegan arrived, and while we are very keen on having the Director of Football position at teh club, we’re not sure Dennis has the experience for such a job.
What do you think?
