FT: Arsenal 3 Newcastle United 0 – Newcastle Lose Again

arsenal-fc-crest.png nufc-crest.png

Newcastle ended up 3-0 losers again at the Emirates tonight when they were well beaten by a very good Arsenal side.

Newcastle struggled throughout the game as they tried to match Arsenal’s play and they were well beaten in the end – but it wasn’t for the want of trying.

After going 1-0 down at half time from a goal by the greatly skilled Adebayor, the Newcastle side came at Arsenal in the second half and had a lot more of the play.

But then right out of the blue Flamini struck a wonder goal from all of 35 yards after 72 minutes and the game wads over.

Arsenal came back into the game after that and another goal by Fabregas after 80 minutes that caught the Newcastle back four too square, and there was even a hint of off-side to seal Newcastle’s fate for a second time in 4 days.

Newcastle played well, and were quite solid at the back – but there’s not too many sides they will meet who as good as this Arsenal side – let’s be honest.

Joey Barton came on after 57 minutes for Rozehnal, who had a reasonable game in midfield. Joey did well enough to stake a claim for Sunday’s game against Middesbrough, where we have to go all out for a win.

Newcastle almost broke their goal duck under Kegan when Butt had an excellent free kick that hit the cross-bar, and then Ameobi was straight through, but tried to get the ball on his right foot when he should have just poked it home with his left.

But that also means in the last 6 league games we’ve lost 5 and drawn just one Worse still is our goal difference is now a terrible -15, having conceded 14 goals in those last 6 league games.

Two teams that were beneath us tonight, Sunderland and Middlesbrough both won their home games, so we are only 4 points above Sunderland now and just 2 points above Middlesbrough.

We need to have a new start to the remaining 14 games on Sunday against Middlesbrough and must get all 3 points.

Comments very welcome.

to say we were well beaten is putting it a bit harsh………

well in all fairness we suck, we are shit, we cant keep the ball for 10 passes, its like league 1 vs premiership, am aving serious relegation issues at the moment 🙁

We were playing one of the best passing teams in Europe, so to compare our bunch of loafers to them is unfair on Keegan. It’s not his fault we are stuck with players that shouldn’t be near the first team :

    Carr
    Rozenhal
    Duff
    Butt
    Smith
    Shola
    Milner

    All of them terrible.

Only Taylor and Owen can leave the field with their head held high. Those two don’t deserve to be in such a bad team.

we’ve been beaten twice off the best team in the country. I’ll start to panic if Boro beat us next weekend. Paul Jewell has stated that if the money is right GB can leave,i think we’d be mad not to get him for around the 4 Million mark

It looked like Owen was playing up front on his own tonight. Where was Smith then Shola? Owen is class and deserves a better strike partner.

Personally, I’d prefer to save the money (for signing GB)for a crazy summer shopping. He won’t help our course now and unlikely to do much next season too.

We really need top class player to take us out of the current situation ASAP IMO.

Just found this on a Lonely Hearts Site

    Michael Owen: -(
WANTED someone to pass the ball to me. NOT NEEDED people who pass amongst them selves especially where their surname is called midfield

Owen was sharp and lively all night. If he’d been playing for Arsenal he would’ve scored a hatrick. Even Wenger said he was a constant threat all night. But Owen had to depend on Smith and Butt for creativity, and no-one deserves that.

We actually haven’t won a league game since 15th december.. that’s sweet. More shocking is the fact we haven’t scored a goal in the same league since 2007.
We desperatly need that win against Boro

i’m gutted…..seriously… i feel like crying……..i went for a smoke and just sit there staring into oblivion……

The only positives in this game for me were Owen and Barton. Joey was good when he came on and brought a little of that much needed creativity.

Emre’s ban is over for the Boro game so i’m hoping we will finally see him and Joey start in midfield. KK can then proceed to put Milner on the bench and play Duff on the right. That is our best midfield imo.

If we loose or draw to Boro i’ll quit the university, break up with my girl, sell my laptop and join the foreign legion.

We were constantly giving arsenal too much room, out of respect for their obvious skill. The first two goals were the result of Flamini not being marked tightly enough. The third goal, well, who cares at that point. Against lower teams we’ll be more confident and the marking should be tighter, just look at the bolton game. Trotters did fook all in that game against us. Our problems really lie in our lack of scoring opportunities. We need more teeth. If we can score we can beat Boro, Sunderland, Brum, Fulham, and Reading. We really have to win all 5 of those and nick some draws and wins from the rest. I fear it’s gannen to be a nervous finish this time around.

Owen’s performance was really promising for the rest of the season – but only if we can bring in some creativity. Hopefully Emre can do some of this but he needs someone else decent to play with. Has he played a whole game this season? His talent was really wasted by Big Sam but maybe Keegan is trusting him to be our main man.

2 weeks in, a depleated team and refs against us in nearly every 50-50 decision.

We were playing a top team and we had some good moments.

Zog was lost a lb for a change, completely.

Strikers lost against a good defence and mostly poor supply.

Keep the faith, smoggies next and that’s where it’ll start with Emre back and maybe even Oba, Barton didn’t do too bad either.
