Keegan – This is My Best Ever Squad

11:27 am, Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

Kevin Keegan will be concentrating fully on the first team and the first team results, as others are brought in to help with the running of other parts of the Newcastle United Football club.

Kevin Keegan – truly believes he has his best ever squad in place

Dennis Wise will help with the recruitment of players and also the Newcastle Academy, which is a priority for Chris Mort and Mike Ashley these days. But from what we hear today, Kevin knew all about these appointments Chris Mort will be making. and is only too pleased to concentrate on the playing side with the first team.

Kevin is also becoming resigned to the fact we may not get any new players in during January, but has been very impressed with the squad he has inherited:

“I don’t see the need to panic,” “When we get the players back from the African Nations (Cup) we will have the sort of size of squad you need to succeed in the Premier League. We’ve got to get through to that point.”

“This squad is the best I’ve had and I mean that 100%. Bringing players in to better these, you have to be more selective.”

“We’re looking at both ends of the market, three or four certainties (who can play straight away in the Premier League) and three or four young chances.”

“That’s what the club are trying to do and I think you’ll see that by some of the things that are being done.”

On the positive side of things we think Chris Mort and Mike Ashley are starting to set up an excellent long term structure for success at the club. Yes, we’ll still get those snide remarks about Newcastle coming out of London, and we’d probably miss them if we didn’t hear them, to be quite honest. :D

But it’s the job of the club to make Newcastle United ultra successful again, and the structure that Chris Mort is putting in place, is exactly in line with that. Make no mistake about that.

Comments and opinions always very welcome.

We should just stay cool and see what will come up in the summer.

    First response this time. :)

I can follow KK his opinion. We really have quality in our team. The only problem was / is playing them in their right position with the right tactics (let them attack cause that is how they want to play). And they need to get their confidence back (a few good results will be needed to be 100% full of confidence). And I’m sure KK will be able to do that. I hope tonight they can repeat their 1st half performance from last Saturday, only for the whole 90 minutes this time ;-) . I’ve got a good feeling for the tonight game!!!

    Come on the TOON!

Arsenal have not beat us in the league for the last 5 league games between us.

    1-1 tonight I reckon

    Giles Barnes possibly signing tomorrow.

I think he’s being a bit daft.. If this was his best squad we would have had a quality creative midfielder and a strong hold leader at the back..
Also a goalscorer who scores goals.

    That would be the best

It is great to see Mort and Ashley treating Newcastle properly and putting in place a structure that will last. The success that teams like Man Utd and Arsenal have had is due to good business strategies as well as good football knowledge. We seem to be trying to put that all in place, something that Freddy Shepperd never attempted. I’m also impressed to see that Keegan is not panic buying. It would be all too easy for a new manager to come in and buy to try an lift results. Souness is the prime example of a manager that tried and failed at this. We’re going in the right direction and we have our chairman and owner to thank.

If we can raise our game tonight and play for 90 minutes, whats the excuse for not doing it on Saturday??

I just hope the team does pull it together and play for 90 minutes like they did for the first 45 on Saturday. In that case we would have a chance against the Arse and a draw would be achievable – might even sneak a win – well, can always live in hope I guess.

Does anyone know if its on the box anywhere??

Graeme – the game is only on sopcast as far as I know.

Download the software from sopcast.com and find the match using myp2p.com. Click on the link in there and the sopcast media player you’ve downloaded will start playing the game.

I watched the game on Sat the same way.

So the squad that nearly won the Premiership in 1997/8 was worse than our current squad? Presumably we’ll win the league next season!

The game is on the Belgian tv; PRIME SPORTS. Like the one last Saturday ;-) . I’m lucky to be a Belgian; hehe.
