Newcastle After Czech Midfielder

Newcastle are trying to beat Juventus to the signing of Czech 20 year-old midfielder Lubos Kalouda.

Lubos Kalouda – 20 year old Czech star midfielder

The Brno-born midfielder has been in talks with Juventus, who made a move for Kalouda earlier this month. His club Brno play in the Gambrinus Liga of the Czech Republic and want around 4million euros (£2.9M) for the highly-rated youngster.

However, Juventus seems to have stalled on the deal and are certainly taking their time to decide whether to sign the youngster. This has allowed Newcastle United to step in, and the Tyne-side club have opened talks with Brno over bringing the youngster to the North East.

Brno’s major shareholder Roman Pros confirmed to CTK yesterday:

“Considering that 31 January is getting closer, we have to negotiate,” “There are no further obligations to Juventus.”

“Despite that, we are awaiting their statement, but in the meantime we have started talks with Newcastle, who know our requirements for releasing Kalouda.”

Juventus apparently see Kalouda as the long-term replacement for Pavel Nedved, and it will be interesting to see their reaction to the Newcastle talks. Juventus were even willing for Kalouda – who was called up for the Czech national squad for the first time earlier this month – to stay at Brno until the end of the season.

That may now change with the Tyne-side club in negotiations for the player.

Kalouda was a member of the Czech Republic U-20 team that won the silver medal at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. Kalouda scored three goals in the tournament, and was one of the best players in the impressive Czech team. He was called up for the senior Czech National team just this month, due in part to his performances in Canada.

His style of play is said to be similar to that of legendary Czech midfielder Pavel NedvÄ›d. We wish.   😀

I won’t come to Newcastle if a club like Juventus are interested in me. But if the player bullcraps and say he think the english league is the best league in the world right now, then we might have a chance.

    Juventus will get him.
If we get him it will be because Juventus decided he wasn’t good enough.

wsq: but that was with regards to players for the first team. this guy is a longer term signing, who may not walk straight into the first team.

If he’s meant to be the new Nedved how come he’s not already been snapped up at the age of 20?

Who knows, we may get him but he could turn out to be another Hugo Viana.

I am Czech and this guy is spot on. He hasn’t been snapped up because nobody knew about him until his great performances in last year’s U20 WC where we finished second. He has scored 5 goals in last 6 outings in Czech First Division, including 2 against Sparta Prague. He’s a real playmaker and he can shoot from distance. I’d go for him any minute.

If we’re up against Juve, we’ll lose out naturally. And yes wsq they are clearly in a better position than us lying 3rd in the Serie A comfortably set for CL qualification.

That would make four great young signings. Maybe we can fool him and claim we are Juventus. We both wear black and white stripes.

Also if we could add Barnes it would be a decent transfer window. Not for this year but five years down the road if the youngsters come through.

Probably being used as an leverage to kick Juve into gear… Would love this signing but don’t expect it to come off. If it does, its completely contrary to Keegans recent statements about only shopping for premiership players or established world class players abroad. If we were to sign him, it proves one of 2 things. Either Keegan has no idea of whats going on in the boardroom, or, our board sees fit to sign who they please regardless of the managers opinion.

Regardless, I’d love to see the kid in a toon shirt…

PS. I do believe that the amount of money we could throw at players now, would tempt any 20yr old, no matter who he’s in talks with…

i read one rumour that we’re offering 2M for Giles Barnes. Surely that would be an unsult to Derby! We seem very loath to spl;ash the cash.

I saw a bit of Kalouda in the U20 world cup and he looked fairly decent, new Nedven though? Not to sure bout that one, defintely talent there though.

If we sign Kalouda it is not going against Keegan and his recent comments, it is about bringing young talent to the club for the future. Fabregas did not walk straight into the Arsenal line up he was slowly introduced as he molded to Arsenal’s playing style.

keegan saying he will be onky going for established prem players was in a paralell with morts wish of buying young talent for the future, i doubt that keegan will mind at all…

i think the low bids are a front by newcastle in the hope that in the summer we can broker good deals because it seems that we are unwilling to splash the cash like our ex chairman who was a headless chicken with the clubs money

keegans comments about only bringin in top class players was about players he wants to bring str8 into first team, this kid is one for the future and will not b a first team regular, also keegan will not have much to do with recruitment of young players, that is what the like of wise, jiminez, and veter have been brought in for
