Faye and Beye Could Be Back For Sunday

We may be seeing Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye back before too long as they play South Africa tomorrow night and anything but a win will see them excluded from the tournament.

Abdoulaye Faye – Senegal could be eliminated tomorrow night

A defeat for Senegal will mean they will be eliminated and our two boys will be back soon, and should even be available for the Middlesbrough game on Sunday. Here is the latest table for Group D, which is Senegal’s group:

Teams P W D L GF GA GD Points

Tunisia 2 1 1 0 5 3 2 4
Angola 2 1 1 0 4 2 2 4
Senegal 2 0 1 1 3 5 -2 1
South Africa 2 0 1 1 2 4 -2 1

Tomorrow’s fixtures that will decide who goes through are:

Senegal v South Africa, D, 17:00
Tunisia v Angola, D, 17:00

Even if Senegal beats South Africa. it will be goal difference that will decide second place – so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Today Cameroon play Sudan in Group C, and we expect Geremi to again be involved. They will be expected to win that game and go through to the knock-out rounds of the tournament.

Cameroon v Sudan, C, 17:00
Egypt v Zambia, C, 17:00

Here are the latest positions in Group C, which is Cameroon’s group.

Teams P W D L GF GA GD Points

Egypt 2 2 0 0 7 2 5 6
Cameroon 2 1 0 1 7 5 2 3
Zambia 2 1 0 1 4 5 -1 3
Sudan 2 0 0 2 0 6 -6 0

But it would be nice to have Beye and Faye back fairly quickly from the tournament, since they can make a big impact at Newcastle. We need them back playing again.

Comments welcome.

no point in hoping, Senegal will win the game as South Africa are shite. Our only chance is that Tunisia and Angola will play for the draw and leave a strong title contender out.
But that’s exactly what Ivory Coast needed yesterday and send our Oba home but the wankers won the the game and qualified Nigeria instead of Mali, tw@ts.

Update: Alvaro comments reported on Tuesday after an unspecified delay by Levante held up his alleged move to Tyneside:

“I am very hurt. Only the club will know the reasons why they have done this. My head is no longer with Levante.

“I am hurt because I have had the offer to leave since January 21 and I do not understand why they have done this.

“I hope that this can be resolved, because if not then there will be big problems.

i think that senegal will beat south africa. we will have to wait till later to get our two star defenders back i am afraid. i hope they dont get injured and come back fit and ready, although they may need a break for a couple days….

Faye is a god in our defence….he and Cacapa are our best options in CB….Beye is realy good on RB,and all we need is one more expirienced left back, and a little more luck, and we can fight off Arsenal or Manchester….We should concentrate on midfield now…Geremi and Emre would be good pair in our CM,while N’Zogbia and Milner/Duff could play on wings….my line-up with some good transfers would be:

I hate cacapa, hes complete shite in the Prem league.

    Beye, Taylor,Faye,Enrique all day long.

Milner (tho hes shite at present) Barton, Emre, NZogbia

    Martins, Owen

Play that team and we will win games, strength the emre position with a better player along with a decent right sided player and we will be better.

Get an owen replacement like adders and we would be challenging top 6.

Getting them back would be as good as two new signings, I’m with Stami on this.

ToonKing, Leo – unless there’s a rout in both of those games it will make absolutely no difference whether Senegal win or lose as the goal difference between them and 2nd place is 4. So they will need a win (by probably 2 clear goals) and one of the two teams above them to win by at least another 2 clear goals.

Thos two will be home for the Boro match, no doubt about it all.

It just shows how good Martins, Beye, Faye even Geremi are compared to are other crop of misfits.

Id like to see martins and owen playing together running the channels, would give us a new dimension. Pace!!

Carr’s done well I think and it will be a difficult job to pick between Beye n Carr for that position now and thats a surprise.
Faye will be good back at CB or even mf role.

I like the idea of Faye in a CDM role. I’d like to see Barton/Emre/Faye combos depending on the situation. Having Faye be able to drop back to CB is good too as we need more stability and better form back there. As much as I hate to say, I’m not sure that Caçapa is going to be consistent. Taylor’s not really there yet either and Roz seems to pretty shakey at times. Faye seems to have been more consistent than any of them in the center of the defense. I have to agree, I hope Senegal goes down. We need Faye and to a lesser extent Beye (I can’t believe I’m saying that, but Carr really has done a decent job). Beye is the obvious first choice and he adds an extra attacking element that Carr doesn’t really provide.
