Keegan Puts Damper On Transfers

Kevin Keegan is putting a damper on any Newcastle talk of bringing in new players.

Chris Mort and Kevin Keegan – no joy in transfer market

Kevin doesn’t even think the Giles Barnes deal will be resurrected before the window slams shut at midnight tomorrow. Seems like Kevin is looking forward to welcoming back his four players away on African duty. although Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Benin last night means that Martins will not be home this week.

Kevin talked to the Evening Chronicle today concerning the transfer situation:

“I’ll be honest with you – I’ve sat down and looked, and there isn’t anyone out there who is going to strengthen us better than when the four players to come back from the African Nations Cup.”

Keegan is also not going to let any of his first team leave in January either, because he needs to have a look at who’s at the club right now, and there’s plenty of time for departures in the summer as we bring new players in.does not expect to be involved in any last-day buying, he is clearly not interested in letting any of his first-team squad go.

Several clubs have been looking at potentially available Newcastle players as strikers Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll.

But the Newcastle manager is having none of it as he continued:

“I cannot let anybody go out. I’ve had inquiries for three players – one loan and two to sell – but I can’t do it. It would be madness.”

“It would be impossible to sell as I haven’t got enough players.”

Newcastle are said to be ready to add one player to their staff before the window closes, and the Evening Chronicle is saying that’s a young Italian who, if he does sign for the club, will be another for the future, like Tozer, Baheng and Kadar, who are great additions to our club for the future. 😀

Comments very welcome.

As we have no European Football now or probably next year it will be hard to bring in quality players.

    Everyone pays good wages now.

Is anyone else suprised at the low Barnes bid. Looks like we bid low enought not ot get him but a good PR stunt so the fans think we are trying.

I have already said this but obviously i am a minority ,, I don’t believe KK should even consider the transfer window at this time. For fxs sake there are four players away in Africa that he hasn’t even met yet. Some of whom look to be great additions to the Toon – Beye and Faye.
We are not going to be high flyers this season, but at least with the current squad and Management we can expect steady progress up the league.
Give KK time to consider what we have and what we need, and then swoop in mid-May in good time for next season

I think we’re stuck in a holding pattern until Summer and even then I’m not sure who we can get outside of the usual mercenaries (Kluivert-style), big club rejects (who are usually rejected for a good reason e.g. Geremi), lower league hopefuls (see mackems) or young players who can’t get much playing time at big clubs (risky).

Wank that we haven’t signed anyone. The class between us and Arsenal the past two games shows how much we need players. Players coming back.. Martins.. hmm ok. Faye – Better than Cacapa. Beye – welcome back. Geremi – can he stay there please? We have an okay squad, no more than that.

Howay man Ashley. Get your check book oot man ffs.

As expected really. Doesn’t really look like we’re ready to splash the cash, and to be fair, we’re not excactly able to attract any good players anyway at the moment. Might as well wait a few months and pray we don’t get relegated. A massive spending spree in the summer will raise our stock again among prospective targets

    really fustrating info!!!!

had a bad feeling bout this Jan window from the beginning. y would any1 want to com to NUFC in its current possition in the league.

KK’s comment ‘noone out there to strengthen our current squad’ is a bonkers statement!! not many of our current team will get into other EPL starting line ups appart from Zog, mayb Taylor (showing Bramble like moments) n Martins who must impove his finishing to also be included; as i say the rest r truthfully all average EP players.

must hope that this poor tranfer window is not down to MA being a tight f**k n not puttin his money into the SQUAD, not jus the CLUB cos tht not enough! wil be writing this season off and be happy with a 11th place finish as the clubs above us have much better squads!!

i dont mean to be negative at all i am trying to be realistic and say it how it is!

com the the TOON! strong finish to season needed

bad night for results for us on tuesday the trap door nears even closer and with tricky games coming up yes that includes boro who are in much better form than us of late they are scoring goals followed by aston villa, man utd and liverpool. If we dons tbeet boro on sunday then its a case of where does everyone reckon we will get our next points. 2 gamesin a row and what do we have to show 1 shot on target dismal. And with nothing happening on the transfer front there is not much in reserve to improve matters yes beye is a better right back than carr so i expect him straight back in to the team and possibly faye partnering taylor but after that nothing, martins only plays when he feels like it, owen not interested and viduka likes his sick bed too much as for smith ive not seen him play well yet yet big sam played him regardless here there and everwhere just dont rate him as the sort of player we need at this club money wasted. what does everyone else think of the way the team is playing? etc

a said yesterday that we are planning for life in the championship did’nt i, caus that is where we are heading if we dont get the resources. its like this I see it, it does not matter when thr transfer window is open. if its the summer or if its the winter one, u should still be able to attract players.

I’m not gonna judge the new set up untill mid next season.
As long as we stay up this season i’ll be ok.
I’m still happy Keegans back, the media are unbilevable! They seem to be trying their best to make him fail…!
    Dam you all!
fair enough no goals in 3 games, Bolton are a horrible team … and Arsenal are amazing!
All you media scumbags who are hounding us… please do us all a favour and F**K off!
But yes some good signings would be nice…

simon/ronaldeano. I could not agree more. They are not good enough for newcastle united. End of. If they were, then we would not be 12th in the league and struggling to win games, score goals etc. new blood is needed. anyone can see that. dont no how kk and his coaches cant see it either.

i really dont think we are in any danger of that happening mate! have a bit of faith!

we have had a weakened squad for the past few weeks! we have played the top 2 teams in England with in the space of a month. where we really expected to pull a number on either of these teams? without a manager for Man U and 4 of our best players away for Arsenal! not likely!

IMO the reality is that we now have alot to look forward to! the future is only goin to bring good things to our club. we have a board making changes within the construct of the club for the future. we have a Manager who is loved by the fans, respected by the players and the backing of the board. how can this appear to be a bad thing?

i think our current squad is very very good! we lack confidence, and leadership on the field! bringing in new players should not be a priority right now. with the appointment of our new senior management, KK will now be able to focus on getting our squad to gel and start fighting for results!

the future looks VERY bright for NUFC!

i think we will be in much better shape when our African players get back!

    So far the record reads:

3 games played – 2 losses and one draw – no goals – 6 conceded… players snubbed and no signings… next up after boro Manu and L’pool…

Things are looking great under King Kev… He has not been given an easy return… Can we improve? Will the summer see us bringing in new blood? Or do we have a new management that seems to have no clue like the previous one…

    Only time will tell…

Too much is made of getting players in. The ones that BSA signed are still trying to gel and the foreign signings are still gradually finding their feet. The most important thing is to get us playing as a strong unit. I think Faye could help a lot in plugging some gaps if he can show the form he has so far.

I’m just hoping we can survive, then we should be looking at 3 top players in the summer
Plus hopefully another couple of youngsters.

more or less everyone on this blog is a fairweather fan who has no patience, common sense or understanding. You are part of the reasons why things dont always work. You are not prepared to let things materialise over time.. it all has to happen yesterday. Keegan got the job 2 weeks into the transfer window and you expect him to come in wave a magic wand, sign deco, and all these players you have probably never seen play, tissonne, kalouda etc etc.. reality check needed. he is best sticking with what he has got and spending the real money in the summer. you can forget about this season! there’s nowt to play for. there is worse teams than us and we will not go down. forget about signing players, would you be happy if we signed another Boumsong, or babayaro! ??? be patient, support your team, be realistic, show some understanding, look at the big picture, be more conisdered in the things you type and realise the people running our club know what they are doing! january is not the time to ressurect this club considering all that has went on!

I think some fans are a bit harsh on Martins. Considering his playing time and number of goals he has scored, I am personally quite happy with what he has done so far this season.

We’ve been constantly told to give Owen time and he will come good, but this is PL not reserves games.

No, I am not trying to have a go at Owen, he is a good player. Instead I am just asking for more appreciation towards Martins. His speed has helped him to created some chances that some of our other strikers can not create. We should all be aware of the fact that many chances would never had been there if it wasn’t for Martins’s tromendous speed.

    I just love Martins. 🙂

taiwan toon. martins does not look up! he is not a team player, he’s head down, beat one man, beat the next then go and beat them again before scuffing a shot into the keepers arms or hitting it as hard as he can into row Z.

We need to play the right style of football to owen, emre threading balls thro for owen to run on to that’s his strengths to hang on to the last defender.

I’d hate for us to rush out and get rubbish we need creativity in midfield & let’s see how some of the guys play under kk

kagthemag, you are probably right about the current Martins. He is not all that good when it comes to team play. But lets just give him time, he is only young. Lets not forget he is only 22 just because he was the top scorer for us last season. How many 22 year old could score as many goals as him in the PL?

Come on Mike! the players are there get your hand in your pocket! we are being out spent by every premier league team, 1.5 million bid for barnes no wonder he aint coming, we are getting out spent by the mackems & smoggies? WTF this is sickening, shall we not turn up to games aswell then maybe we can buy 12-15mill players as the boro, they are showing more ambition than us, we talk a good transfer tho. We need players in NOW even the players have said it, that shows how desparate we are, weve spent more to add to the backroom staff, this is unbelievable,, everyone can see we need a play maker arshavin or such like we havent got one on african nations

how can tottenham have such success in the window and we can’t even sign one player! spus just signed hutton from rangers, that is a great signing in my opinion and obviously they aleady got Woodfag there now too. he may be injuy prone but either way its good depth for the back four now. there is also talks that they will get gilberto fom arsenal! hopefully in the summer we can get on track and make things happen fo the future with frsh faces and get rid of players like nicky butt and geremi!

Same story different year. There will be two new faces which we wont5 know anything about at the LAST SECOND. bARNES WILL COME CAUSE WELL DOUBLE THE OFFER AND THE (sorry for the capitals) Rams need the money to go back down. Some other random will come too. What has happened to Milner?? Its like playing on the left stuffed him up but he never gets down near the line for a cross and when he does it is generally blocked. Something is worng with his technique cause it was only last year he was the best player we had?
