Keegan – We Showed Lots of Character

Kevin Keegan talked to Sky Sports after the game tonight, and said he was glad to have Barton back in the side.

Kevin Keegan – team still lacking confidence

Keegan talked after the game starting with Joey Barton:

“He went on and gave us a bit of security in midfield, a little bit of drive and enthusiasm. Joey’s now just got to let his football do the talking. I think you’ll see a new Joey Barton now.”

“He’s had a tough time, he’s done some silly things. But he’s turned himself around and we’re going to help him.” “Just like Saturday, 3-0 looks like a hammering, but I thought we showed a lot of character here tonight.”

“You can look back at odd decisions, the third goal for them was definitely offside. And at 1-0 when the game was evenly balanced, Michael Owen was given offside when he’s not.”

“It looks like you’re whining when you say that, but they’re facts. And they change matches.” “If we got points for being genuine, we would have got something – we gave it everything but just didn’t have enough quality at times.”

“Arsenal have the confidence that we lack at the moment, but there were things to take from the game.” “We will create more in time with the players we have but it’s not happening at the moment.”

“Some of these players aren’t used to getting beaten. We have guys who are used to winning things and they need picking up. We have to get a win from somewhere and hopefully it will be against Middlesbrough on Sunday.”

Sunday’s game is now stacking up to be an important gone, since Middlesbrough are in good form at the moment, having won 1-0 last night against Wigan Athletic, at the Riverside.

We’ll have to start picking up points from somewhere soon – and Sunday’s game is as good a time as any.

    showing character is fine.
showing a complete lack of simple passing, or any ability to attack and score however, isnt.
we need something in midfield, desperatly. michael owen must wonder what he has to do to get a ball to feet, because i’m sure he’s screaming for it at every available opportunity.
suddenly the game with the smoggies seems very, very important.

3 of our last 5 games have been away at arguably the best two teams in europe where as the other two – we thrashed stoke 4-1 and drew 0-0 against bolton when keegan had 1 day training with the players.

Now we face Boro on sunday and we should win vs them 🙂

we are so in need of a good central midfielder who can pass and create openings, why are they not going for asharvin? i thought he was that sort of player, you are not going to get what we need from just looking at what prem league players might be available as there arent any.

The one thing that last night proved was that we are lacking quality and pace, two things key for Keegans style of play. The only players who seem to be certain to remain are Given, Taylor, NZogbia and Milner, with Butt and Duff the most likely others. Players like Owen, Barton, Smith and most of the defence just don’t seem to have the sharpness required.
The tactics of Allardyce covered the lack of passing and control, but under Keegans style they will continue to be shown up!

these games under keegan was by far the best i’ve seen this season in terms of passing and movement. although much needs to be done but this tells how low Sam has brought newcastle down. By far the worst manager for us. He screwed up the first quarter of the season where all the easier games are scheduled. THe ultimate flop…stop moaning guys, at least we had shots on goals and create strings of passes.

Unless you guys had alzheimer…when sam is in charge there would be 0 shots on goal almost every game and we were pressed hard by Derby at St James. REMEMBER?????

the midfield is definitely lacking.. good defences tend to have good midfielders infront of them. We need class midfielders and fast and also ones that stay on the pitch!

if asharvin has even a slightly good euro championships that will add at least £10 mil to his price tag, get him in now b4 its too late, bollox to the fact he hasnt got PL expereince he is a bloody international captain who has bags of european experience.

The other side i that mort is not prepared to payout in jan or the money isnt actually available

Looks to me that they are banking on KK doing enough to avoid relegation with the present squad. Don’t think there are going to be any panic buys but come Summer we will see wholesale changes.
The guy fitting my new boiler said “I bet KK walks before Xmas” I think he is a Spurs supporter. I wouldn’t expect that myself if we are doing Ok but if there are too many changes without his input he just might.

I think that trying to stave off relegation is not going to give Ashley the “fun” he claims to want when watching his team. However I too don’t understand their timididty in the transfer market. I’ts as if KK has been given a miniscule budget and told not to spend it all at once! If we fail to bring even one player in over the next two days then the gloom is only going to increase as we make do with the players we have.

Martin.. my suspicions tell me that they will be plenty happening tomorrow. The players that they decide to bring in will be long term, however.

I think Ashley is probably getting his fun assembling his “Train Set” at the present. And will be looking forward to running it better next year.

There is plenty of money and always has been. But Keegan and Mort said they will only spend it on World Class PLayers or proven youngsters who will benefit the team long term.

No world class players move clubs in Jan no matter what fee is offered. So expect 2 or 3 youngsters by the end of tomorrow and a host of world class players in the summer. The first 11 in August will be miles away from the one that took the field last night. Trust Keegan guys.

When he took over before we had a terrible team and sat at the bottom of Division 2. When he was given time he turned us into the best playing team in the country with all the best players. He just needs time and the summer transfer window to start sorting things.

Not much fun when it keeps coming off the rails! I agree though, and think that next season will see a completely different team. I wrote the other day that this season is a write off.

will character win us games? shooting will…. we dont shoot enough, we try and run the ball into the net, cant wait for the start of next season, hopefully keegan will bring the players in that are needed to do that.
