Levante’s Alvaro Says He’s Signing For Newcastle

Levante center-back Alvaro has confirmed he is on the brink of signing for Newcastle United.

Alvaro – says he signing for Newcastle United

Setanta Sports had reported yesterday the Brazilian has emerged as a surprise Newcastle United target, since the player doesn’t seem to fit with what manager Keegan was looking for – somebody who could come in and perform immediately in the Premier League.

Birmingham City were already closely tracking the player, but the Blues may miss out on the player as Newcastle have reportedly already bid around £2.2M for the player.

Alvaro is said to be offered a 3 year contract, and Alvaro seemed only too willing to talk openly about his move to Tyne-side:

“I will pass the medical tests today and, if everything goes well, I will sign my new contract with Newcastle,” “I am very pleased with the opportunity to play in England.”

“At other times, offers from The Premier League came up but were never finalized.”

“Newcastle are an historic club and I am going to work to help them do everything they can.”

“I know that they are not doing well in the table but, in both the last two years, I have been fighting with Levante to stay up so I am used to battling.”

This would be a surprise and with just two days left in the transfer window we suspect we may get at least a couple of signings through the door. Don’t be surprised if we also get Giles Barnes from Derby County, although Tottenham and West ham are also after the 19 year-old.

We also have a slight chance of getting 20 year-old Czech midfielder Kalouda, although Juventus are also one club who have already looked at him closely.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Jiminez (our new technical bloke) is a big fan of Alvaro, so I expect this rumour to be true.

Not the world class defender we need to play alongside Taylor, but may do a better job than Cacapa or Rozenahl in the short term. He also speaks fluent Spanish from his many years in La Liga so he will help Enrique settle in more.

The fact that Keegan is even looking for a CB proves he doesn’t rate Cacapa or Rozenhal at all (and rightly so).

He plays at the heart of Levante defense who have SHIPPED 39 GOALS IN 21 GAMES. In what has been described by the Spanish press as the worst La Liga defence in years. Not the place to go looking for a defender is it?

Dunno about this. Levante are bottom of the league and Alvaro’s hardly stood out as a defender. Can he cut it in the premier?

I do not think that Alvaro is better than Cacapa.

I just don’t understand why CB is being made a priority… RM and AM are far more pressing needs. I’ll be pissed if this is the extent of the transfers. Our problem at the moment is scoring goals… We’re creating nothing. All we’ve chased in Jan are defenders. Keegan even said the current squad has all the creativity needed… He also said that Barnes won’t be coming…

tbh i am not impressed with this signing, 39 goals in 21 games, i hope that isnt right… yes he is strong in the air but will be be able to track back and defend… i doubt it. barnes is a total must for our central midfield position…. come on jiminez keegan wise or who ever is doing the signings these days!

Keegan has to be ngeative about Barnes, because if he says yes he is coming then Derby will know we are willing to pay anything to get him. He has to act like he doesn’t care so we won’t be held to ransom. Barnes will be here tomorrow

I have to admit that I know nothing about this fella but from the comments of James (1) and Martin (3) that this sounds like exactly the type of player that we don’t want.

    I’m getting worried….
    Sundays game is massive now!
Middlesbrough is a must win game…
Please can we somehow get a class creative midfielder, a Really good Right winger, and a propper goal scoreer!
I hope we can get Kalouda and Barnes.

he looks the part imo , seems like a n nonsense CB .
he knows the position we are in and is happy to come in and help us get out of it , sounds like the right attitude already .

Hadrian – he has the right attitude, but we need someone with the ability and he lacks that in abundance

this is a joke. another nobody who is no better than what we have, will need time to settle, talk the talk, but ultimately fail.

looks like the board are playing championship manager. and the irony is he’s probably terrible on their too.

I love that this is the back-up to woodgate!

Its a shame our quality players are away at the moment, we do miss Martins, Faye and Beye so much, they are quality and I cant wait for them to return. This guy looks like a decent sized defender unlike cacapa. We need athletic players with pace, Cacapa is neither, I would rate Rozenhal slightly better than Capaca but he is prone to mistakes. Faye on the other hand is superb along with Taylor, this guy would make good cover or push Faye in Midfield in place of the hapless and completely useless excuse for a football player that is Nicky Butt.

I’d be far more excited about Kalouda and Barnes – we should fax 3.5M offers for each today!

Cacapa and Rozehnal are both good £2-3M defenders. Maybe our expectations too high.

Consider our track record in buying overseas defenders – think Boumsong (£8M) and the spanish sick note geezer name begins with M(£5M).

I’d rather have Roz and Cass anyday. They are still finding their feet in PL. Yes – it does take time. Solano had a lousy first 6 months before stepped up to the congestion, combativeness and pace of the PL.

We do need better discipline and shape defending as a team but individually we have players good enough to do ok – and no betterthan ok. OK?

I believe Beye could be our next captain. He’s got that special aura that good leaders have. Faye has the experience to play at the back or defensive midfield.

So unless we are getting an absoloute bargain in buying Alvaro, I don’t see the point.

However, this what we’ve hired the likes of Vetere and Jiminez to sort out. Bring in top quality players that maybe most of us know little about?

Cacapa was absolute garbage last night, and he’s looked worse an worse for me since Portsmouth. His legs aren’t upto the Premiership and he loses his position far too many times. Plus, Taylor has been holding the back line and why oh why is Cacapa positioned deeper than him???? Cacapa has to go, he’s not an EPL defender, but I think in Europe he will be quality. Rozey has more about him, as he can play and he’s quite quick. He needs time to adjust definitely!

I hope Alvaro is quick and a tight marker, as well as good in the air. If he is, then he’ll be an asset!

If we are to bring in a defender, why not a good young versatile defender? Onuoha is reportedly becoming restless at Man City and can play along the backline, he’s tall and lightning quick, plus it was Keegan who gave him his big break, and there’s also his ties with Taylor and Milner.

I could see him as a RB in years to come.

But we really don’t need another out and out CB. We have Taylor, Rozehnal, Cacapa and Faye, plus Ramage is still out injured, Beye can play centrally and we also have the young lads, Edgar, Kadar and Tozer. Sowe are clearly well stocked as it is.

i dont think cacapa gets the credit he deserves on here sometimes, i think he is deffo one of the best players we could widh to play along side taylor, i also really really rate abby faye, wether its in the midfeild or centerback, his work in the air is class for us

What is all this Alvaro or no Alvaro talk, as far as i am concerned, his coming won’t do anythng to better our fortunes.
This are the questions we should be asking, in his years in Spain how did he change the fortunes of his little known team.
We have the financial muscle, why don’t we go for the best legs available in Europe, see what Sven is doing with Man city.
Newcastle United is a big club, in the near future we should be competing with the best of the prem.

I hope Newcastle United scouts are in for the African Nations Cup. There is cheap talent available, see the quality of goals that have been scored. Lets go for the best
