Damien Duff has played well for Newcastle since he returned just before Christmas, from his serious ankle injury .
Damien Duff – has good opportunity now at Newcastle
And with Keegan’s arrival at the club his style of play will fit right in with what the manager is looking for, so it’s a chance for Duff to shine and return to the form he showed at Blackburn and Chelsea, before arriving at Newcastle in the summer of 2006.
Damien talked to the Newcastle Journal today, in a long interview:
“We want to start winning games again. We’ve not won since December 15 and the gaffer has come in and we haven’t managed to improve results yet. I think we’re all desperate to get that first win on the board for him because he’s a great fellow and we want to show what a positive impact he has already had on the club.â€
“Of course these things take time, but everyone has really enjoyed his arrival. It might not have seemed like that because of results, but I think we’re all excited about what is happening and where the club is trying to go. However, we need to show that by putting points on the board.â€
“I’ve been really impressed with the new manager’s ideas and the enthusiasm he brings to the training ground and the dressing room on a matchday. This is just the start, but the sooner we get that first win the better.†“In many ways Sunday will be like a fresh start for the team because it doesn’t get much tougher than two back-to-back away games against Arsenal.â€
“I think we’re glad to see the back of Arsenal after what they have done to us away from home this season. It was always going to be hard on Tuesday night, but we’re still annoyed at a disappointing result.†“We’ve conceded some sloppy goals again and we’re not creating enough chances at the other end, but we don’t have to play them every week and we can look forward to Sunday and the game against Middlesbrough.â€
“You only have to look at the squad we’ve got. We’re down to the bare bones, we’ve got kids on the bench and we’re trying to compete with arguably the best team in the Premier League.â€
“We’ve got four lads away in the African (Cup of) Nations and we’ve picked up injuries. The squad’s too small to cope with that and I think any club in the Premier League would be struggling with what we have at the moment if they had to go to the Emirates twice in four days.â€
“I’m feeling pretty good. It was a really bad injury and I’m still getting a bit of an ache in that area which the doctor says will probably last for a few months yet. But it’s great to be back and I can feel myself getting stronger with each game I play.†“Newcastle is where I live, it’s where my heart is and the club pays my wages. I want to get things right here more than anything else.â€
Damien has a great opportunity to play well for Newcastle now, but that’s also true of everybody else in the squad. Let’s be honest, they haven’t exactly played great this season for either Sam Allardyce or Keegan yet – and they have that responsibility, given all the ludicrous wages they receive.
So the onus is now on the players to start producing, starting on Sunday against Middlesbrough.
We expect a good game, attacking play, and all 3 points on Saturday. 😀

Comment #41by the way john are you aware there is another guy on here who goes by the name of john who rates cacapa quite highly, maybe you should consider adding a number or something to your name so that people can distinguish between the two of you

Comment #45Dragooner also said after the Derby game that there were signs of improvement, and we would do well in up and coming games ….WRONG WRONG WRONG.
I also challenged him to comeback to be after the next four games and see how our predictions compared with me saying we would be lucky to get a point……………….
You see, i have been a season ticket holder for 18 years, and prior to that, going to every home game for 8 years, so I am a realist, and I say what i see!!
Where as Dragooner, borrows his girlfriends ticket so he can get to the Arsenal Match every season and probably has not attended a home game for go knows how many years (If ever) so I will be in the Sir John hall stand, sunday morning (Coz we play sunday dragooner) watching Cacapa struggle with the Movement of one of your ex players Aliadiere, thats if he recovers from injury, and also find it hard to contain fellow Brazilian Alves, should he sign in time, and then I will come back on this board on Monday and say ……………..Dragooner. You were WWWWWWWWRRRRRROOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGG again!!!

Look, I know you are limited in what you say, do or know, so if you would like to meet me for a pint at the Strawberry on Sunday after the match, Maybe, just maybe I can put my head together with yours 😉 and transfer a little of my knowledge to your heed, and then you can come back on here next week, a bit better informed??? I will be the one with the blazer, shorts and cap on!!!!
36 year old matey, proud fan of NUFC and more than happy to share my opinions with anybody in the know about this great football club!!
