Newcastle United Signing Fabio Zamblera

3:12 pm, Thursday, January 31st, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 75 Comments

Newcastle, as expected, are bringing 17 year-old Italian, Fabio Zamblera, to the club before the transfer window closes tonight.

fabio-zamblera.jpg

Fabio Zamblera – outstanding Italian talent

As we reported yesterday, Zamblera is at Italian club Atalanta, and Newcastle were completing the negotiations with his club today.

Fabio currently plays for the Italian Under-18 side and at 6’3” tall is a powerful player, who can score goals. It turns out that Newcastle’s new technical director Jeff Vetere has lined up the move for the very highly-rated striker. Fabio has agreed personal terms and a four-and-a-half year deal, and has passed a medical at St James’ Park. :D

Certainly we are bringing in some great young players to the club as witnessed last night when the Reserves put in an excellent performance to easily beat North Shields 3-0, and we have all 3 new youngsters, Tozer, Boeteng and Kadar playing the full 90 minutes. In that game, 18 year-old local boy Mark Doninger scored 2 great goals, the second one not unlike Flamini’s goal on Tuesday night at the Emirates (sorry to mention that again).

It’s just a pity we haven’t brought in some senior players during the window, but these youngsters are going to stand us in good stead for the future.

Comments are always welcome – just keep the language decent for the kids.

  • 2 broon ale // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:15 PM

this is off the subject but have you read this,, how cringe worth is anal Oliver..

I have just found this on the Arsenal website from Alan Oliver.

“”I’m absolutely in love with Arsenal. When we came down to the Emirates, the whole set-up is fantastic, the press room, the way we are treated, everything. The stadium is magnificent and there were 60,000 there even though everyone knew Arsenal wouldn’t have the first team out. I went back on the Tube at Finsbury Park and I saw all the young kids with their Arsenal tops on and I just felt that Newcastle United are a million years away from Arsenal. Ever since that night I’ve been a massive Arsenal fan and Newcastle fans seem to think the same.”

This is a fine example of his journalistic failings and arse licking of the highest order.

    Out with Oliver!

there is even a video wanting him out!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PETGLeQv88

people should email this plonker on alan.oliver@ncjmedia.co.uk

i have on a number of occasions… i also emailed mick dennis of the express and at least he had the balls to reply… Alan Oliver needs abuse!! enough to make him retire at least!!

    JOIN THE CAMPAIGN !

    OLIVER OUT

  • 7 Tom_Toon // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:19 PM

ED – Who Beoteng, i think you mean Baheng!

Rather have Chermiti but ill setlly for Zamblera.

  • 8 Ryan Syahril // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:21 PM

The Magpies have struck a deal with Serie A side Atalanta for young forward Fabio Zamblera, who agreed personal terms, passed a medical and he could even be looking to break into the United side in the coming months if KK wants to give chances to him and other few promising young guns!

  • 9 +Rich // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:22 PM

Good news, 3 young payers is a good result from Jan in my book. Keep The Faith!!

If this Italian lad is any good he may do well as a pair with Martins in the future?

  • 10 Hadrian // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:29 PM

these players wont be ready for years , ill go nuts if we dont invest in the first team as much as we are the youth.

  • 11 Graeme // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:32 PM

The future looks bright; the future is Black n White!!!
    The United Nations of NUFC!!!

  • 12 micepie // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Hadrian, why shouldn’t these players be ready for years? If good enough, they should be ready to at least put on the subs bench at 19.

I don’t know if it’s a fluke – or lack of fear because of the young age – but Lua Lua has looked amongst the brightest players on the field when he’s been given a few minutes.

I hope we sign a few more.

  • 13 Kash2 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:35 PM

This boy and Andy Carrol up front. Bring on the long ball!

All we need now is a couple of midfielders who are good at long shots and volleys, and a couple of defenders who are accurate at hitting long.

    Long Ball STYLE!!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • 14 toon1978 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:37 PM

    Kash2 BRING BACK BS lol.

  • 15 obafemimartins // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:39 PM

how do we know that he will be good. there is that lump of shite at man city who calls himself a footballer and he cant do anything (bianchi).

  • 16 obafemimartins // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:41 PM

lualua!! he should be on the wing. give him a chance to prove himself and milner needs a rest and milner has been called up for england U21 now

  • 17 Kash2 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:41 PM

Seriously, he’s a big lad, as are Tozer, Kadar and Baheng. I like the fact we’re signing big players, thats the way forward. Tune up their technical ability and hopefully they’ll turn out good. Or they’ll fetch a nice profit once we sell them!

  • 18 JP from Gibraltar // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:42 PM

Good piece of business by Chris Mort and co. These sort of signings excite me. Imagine if we could have a World Class Youth Reserves Team. Where hot prospects from around the world would be playing brilliantly for our reserves trying to break into our first team.

  • 19 steve k // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:42 PM

Anal Oliver is one of the worst self-promoting journalists in the business. He is a disgusting writer.

  • 20 Kash2 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:44 PM

I think Arsenal may have a so called world class youth reserve team.

  • 21 toon1978 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:48 PM

Kash2 we want these youngsters to get into our first team and stay there, not to sell them.

  • 22 broon ale // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:49 PM

i have edited alan olivers wikipedia!

    has it worked?

  • 23 Kash2 // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:51 PM

toon1978 – All of the youngsters WON’t get into our first team, the ones who don’t get sold for a profit! Arsenal have done it plenty of times, thats the whole point of the strategy, either first teamers or profit makers!!!!

  • 41 Sloop Jon B // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:12 PM

sounds good for the future- hopefully the near future.
not overly worried about ‘super signings’ during this window, but would’ve preferred to have had some of our african contingent back.

there’s a couple of other promising signings on the horizon apparently-
Czech Lubos Kalouda and Slovak Tomas Hanzel.
Kalouda is 20 and Juve are said to be keen as well.

lets face it noboby wants to play for us
we r sinking like a ship teas at end of season
im not looking foward to it i
its not keegans fault its mike ashleys he has spent a 10 million net boro have spent more on 1 player

lets ad kerlon to r youth

  • 44 Jamie // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Atleast we wont have to give it to Butt in midfield to give the ball away each time if we play a longer ball style!!!

I’m hoping the kid is as good as hes meant to be.
Cesc is only 20 at Arsenal, so thats no reason why young players can’t play in the EPL for us.

  • 45 Leo* // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:25 PM

isnt kerlon the guy they call the dolphin dribbler because he can run with the ball on his head. haha i remember seeing a video of him doing it and some defender totaled him

Deano! come on lad, nobody wants to play for us? Well aye your right if you are talking about top flight players, put yourself in their shoes, would you go for a winning side playing in Europe or a mid to lower table team that has been in turmoil? Things will change though, in a years time they will be lining up at the door.

  • 54 ADAM // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:35 PM

a hope he is a good player but were is the players to help the squad now. I hope charles n’zogbia stays as well. There is 7 and a half hours left so why dont we put a bid in for a very good player now to help the team. i.e riise , pressley , crouch , defore , ben haim or scott brown. theres nothing stoping us is there.

  • 55 shearyadi // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:45 PM

  • 56 TS // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Edd Case – You realise it’s Zamblera, right? Not Zambrela. Don’t really rhyme with umbrella if you’re honest.

  • 57 Greg B // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:52 PM

I have to be honest but I have never heard of this lad and I would like to think I have a good general knowledge of European football (thanks in part to Sky sports and Setanta :)) , so anyone who has heard of him, do you think he could break into the squad anytime soon?
I mean, he hasnt played a single game for Atalanta first team as far as I am aware.

  • 60 geordie nick // Jan 31, 2008 at 5:39 PM

this kid has lots of potential but we need someone who can play in the first team now not in 2 yrs, its all well and good bringin in young players but shudnt our first team be top prioty at the minute, after all we are pretty much ion a relegation batlle and the playres we have are over rated over paid losers, and michael owen is the worst of the lot

  • 61 Edd Case // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:10 PM

they say he is “highly regarded”

  • 64 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:35 PM

Fabio Zamblera, Dennis Wise…. exactly the type of top class, world beating, entertainers i was hoping for this Janruary…

    *deco*…ahem….

  • 65 Danny // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:35 PM

Why is that whenever we sign anybody good or bad there is always tons of blind fans saying they are gonna be rubbish…..

Nobody has heard of this lad but that doesnt automatically mean he is a bad player…he is only 17 and is a player for the future!

Do you think Arsenal fans had heard of Fabregas when they bought him when he was 16 or 17?…

Do you think Manure fans had heard of Vidic when they bought him?

We all know the club are building for the future so lets acknowledge that we have snapped up a young striker and hope he becomes a good player for the club!

Its no wonder the London press have a field day with our club when everyone involved with it is constantly ridiculed and moaned at by its moronic over expectant fans…Lets look forward for once!

  • 66 geordie thru n thru // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:41 PM

stop getting carried away weve dun this before with young players and they turn out to be a pile of rubbish, viana ring any bells, weve neva been good at signing youngsters we flippin turned saha away at a young age wats wrong wiv us lets jus hope.
we all dream of a team of zableras a team of zamblera a team of zambleras.
p.s. habib beye song is the best song in the world

  • 67 Greg B // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:44 PM

Agree w/Danny – like I say, I have never heard of him, but the little I am reading suggests he is a good prospect.
Like we say, this season is all about pride now, get up the table and see where we sit, come out all guns blazing next season and give it a real crack.
Lack of signings suggest Keegan is quite happy with the overall squad, Faye and Beye should be back in a game or two, then theres Martins and Geremi to come in after that, also think Keegan will give the likes of Lualua, Edgar and Carroll a crack once we get a bit of a gap between those bottom three, Im not taking it for granted that we will be safe but I honestly think we have enough squad wise to finish at least mid-table.

  • 68 craig chisholm // Jan 31, 2008 at 6:55 PM

hi all, its not like me to be down in the dumps but we need to be honest here lads, we are sinking fast. no wins for as long as i can rememeber and getting closer to relegation with every game. i will be happy if we maintain prem status cos right now i can see the championship for us next season. we have signed not a fooking soul all window of any talent that can have an immediate impact. i hope ashley has the balls to stick by us in the championship next year cos thats where we are going. i blame the players and not the manager. we have a top six side on paper but they are playing like twats with no passion. the future is not bright but it will always be black and white, i will still be buying me season ticket next year although i am disapointed in so many things this season. it can not be keegan, he has not been there long enough to do anything wrong and lets be honest, his first games away at arse were always loosers from the start. midboro is a real six pointer and i do not feel good about it either. sorry lads but i think that after years and years of poor management, chopping and changing constantly has finally cracked the whole team and we are in free fall.

  • 69 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 7:01 PM

    Danny –

you miss my point, im not criticising the fact we signed Fabiano Zamblera because i think hes no good.

I too, am happy we are buying for the future, i mean no one knew who Zog was until we started playing him, so i totally agree we need to be signing these sorts of players.

My point was we Should ALSO be signing entertainers, i mean Mike Ashley has been in charge, what wil be almost a year at the end of the season and we have bought nobody, not one player of world beating class.

We were told, that Deco was a huge possibility in Jan etc…etc…

And to quote you, “Do you think Manure fans had heard of Vidic when they bought him?”

I would say not, because most Man U fans are clueless prawn sandwhich eaters who hail from anywhere except Manchester, but to people who actually know football past their club Vidic was a top player before Man U, ill give you a hint just google ‘Serbia & Montenegro Famous Four’

  • 70 Danny // Jan 31, 2008 at 7:26 PM

    FAO Keltik

I wasn’t having a go at anyone in paticular its just the general chit chat you get after we sign a player is normally very negative…

I knew all about Vidic from the Serbia defensive record but my point was that we aren’t gonna hear of all the players we sign and we should sometimes take that as a good thing….haha

I agree also that we should be signing entertainers and I’m pretty disappointed we haven’t, I thought that Ashley’s reluctance to spend was because of Sam but it has been plain to see we have fallen behind a few teams this season and this transfer window was our chance to catch up.

I wish keegan seen the team the way we did…we are crying out for creativity…heres hoping!

Again Keltik I wasn’t having a go at you…It was just an observation mate ;-)

Thanks Greg…nice to know some people share my views!

Don’t forget that we got beat by Arsenals kids not too long ago. I would personally prefer to see a youngster with some heart and talent come through the ranks ahead of some of the old dross we have on show at the mo..
The club will be ingrained in their system and they will give their all for the senior shirt, given the chance…
At least there will be room for improvement, which, a number of our players lost a long time ago..

PS… I am not a doom monger! I am more than impressed with the change of attitude that KK has achieved in only 2 weeks…. Just that I would rather have anybody else on the park than Butt & Smith, They are the ruination of us… Mark my words…..
