Keegan Right to Ask for Patience and Support

After a disappointing last day yesterday, in the January transfer market, Kevin Keegan is right to ask the fans for their support and a little patience.

Kevin Keegan – let’s all get behind the gaffer

Kevin Keegan said today:

“People tend to forget how we moved in last time.”“I think we won seven and lost seven of our 14 games left. That was enough to get us out of the relegation zone at that time in the division below.”

“You do need patience. We need the patience to wait for some of our players who have had injuries to get back to full fitness, for the ones to come back from suspension – and we have still got people to come back from the African Nations Cup.”

“We do need patience and the Newcastle fans will show that. You can lose that patience if, after a while, the things you are seeing aren’t really what you expected.” “That’s when people start to get frustrated and show it.”

The game on Sunday against Middlesbrough looks a difficult one since Middlesbrough have been playing well of late, and have picked up some good results recently. They are just two points behind Newcastle so it’s important that Newcastle get all 3 points to widen the gap. A Middlesbrough win on Sunday will of course put the Tees-side club ahead of Newcastle in the league.

Keegan continued:

“The players individually at this football club are all top-class players.” “If we can get them playing as a team, that would be a strong team.”

“That is the secret of football. It is not getting the players individually playing well – that helps – but to get them to play collectively well and then the individuals to make the difference.”

“That could be quite a few at this club. Damien Duff is a player who can turn a game; certainly Charles N’Zogbia can; I think James Milner can; certainly Michael Owen can and Mark Viduka can. It doesn’t have to be the same player every week.”

Hopefully former Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka will not be fit to play, and left full-back Jose Enrique will have recovered from a similar problem he picked up earlier this week. Emre is available after serving his three-match ban for a straight red card against Stoke City, and Faye and Beye will be back from the African Cup of Nations tournament.  Joey Barton is also available after showing some decent form at Arsenal on Tuesday night.

So Keegan will have almost a full squad to choose from, and his team should be an interesting one for Sunday.

Let’s ensure on Sunday that we support the lads, the season has to be turned around somehow, and Sunday is just a great time to start. A 3-0 win for instance will have the City of Newcastle buzzing again.

Comments very welcome.

I really hope we can gain a win and lift our spirits up! That’s what is needed in these times with all these rumours (zoggy, rozy, etc.)! go and get em!

I can fully understand rozy’s departure, becouse this is something we absolutely can not use!! Un-teamfriendly players have to cut out and that was the case of rozy’s departure. I’m delighted with that, he had absolutely no right to shout out becouse he’s not able to fit into PL! Now go out and show the quality all over BORO!!

If you were synical, you would say that the astute business man Ashley appointed the only man that could get away without adding to poor team in the transfer window???????????

I’d like to hear something concrete about our future plans, especially in regards to squad rebuilding from club officials. Do we actually have a considerable amount of transfer funds available to spend? The january window didn’t excactly scream spending power.

I don’t expect to hear any such statements at this point tho. Keegan will tell you he has to motivate the current squad to save us from a relegation battle.

I do think it could have a positive effect tho, telling the players that we are going to overhaul the squad bigtime in the summer. If you want to keep your place, EARN IT.

With Euro 2008 it will be even harder to sign quality players. I am just praying we get players signing pre-contract agreements now and come summer we already have some more players in. Also with us not playing in europe we will struggle.

The only reason I can think of why KK let Rozenhal go is that he doesn’t rate him and thinks Edgar/Kadar/other reserve players are better.

January’s always a difficult time to get players – it might be that we had the money but the players we wanted weren’t available. KK’s got the rest of the season to figure out who he wants to keep and who he wants to get rid of in the summer, as well as a chance to put some fringe players in the team and see how they get on.

But the tiny size of our squad does worry me – especially as we’re only 7 points about the drop. Have to beat Boro – and we have to get behind the team.

Kevin will get my unrivaled support ,
i just feel for the guy , he himself would have known the impact a big signing would have had on the city and fan’s , mort should have bent over backwards to try and make one happen .

it was a bit dissapointing not bringing any one in of a high order I have to say. But when you look at the mover’s in the transfer window there was really only woodgate, defoe and alves of any significance to be fair. still dissapointed we did not bring anyone in. yes we no the team/squad is not very good, but us fans have to get behind them now until the rest of the season, then we can rebuild, infact never mind re-build, it is a must. one good thing, least we did not get beat 6 nowt off arsenal like we did at man u, so we must have improved like. !!!

Why the F**C is so many of you moaning about Keegan/Ashley/etc. not spending big money for big stars? Big stars don’t want to come to a club that might be relegated (I don’t think we’ll go down, but…), whatever money we throw after them. Only former big stars (Kluivert etc.) do that, and we don’t want them!
We have a fairly good team, on paper, and Kevin needs to make them play for each other and the team.
In one year, when we are top six, THEN we might attract some big names. In the summer we need to get players to lift us to that level, we need to go one step at the time.
What is good now is that we are getting some really talented young players, who might help us reach our goal in the future.
    SILVERWARE!!!
In the meantime; STOP WHINING!!!! And support the team, they need it.

here is a question how many truly class players were available and would consider a move in the January transfer window? if we are to make steps forward then we use the rest of this season for consolidation and accept we are going to finish mid table / top eight at best. Lets get behind the team and start by kicking The Smogs on Sunday!

My view has changed about NUFC.
I used to think that we lacked ambition but I believe that the reverse is true. I think the broad approach is right, what would be the point in bringing in a few players now when we having nothing left to win and when prices are totally over inflated? Moreover, many of the best players just aren’t available at the moment.
Realistically, we are not going to get relegated and the strategy seems clear to me. Employ a good intelligent director of football to ensure that a list of top targets are identified and invest in the summer in an extensive squad restructure. In the meantime isolate / transfer out any players not demonstrating positivity and a willingness to fight for the cause and develop the right attitude among the team.
So I don’t think it will be pretty this season but I am confident that we’ll have a phenomenal squad at the start of the new campaign.

Paul p – i disagree. I think we have a decent squad but for reasons only Allardyce can explain, they have not been playing as a team – partially due to tactics , playing people out of position and injuries.

Keegan has shown in 2 short weeks that they can play together – the games against arsenal showed this (albeit only for part of the game). If this can happen in less than a fortnight, our performances, and therefore results should improve drastically over the coming weeks.

Yes we’ll still may lose to man utd and Liverpool as we are a class or 2 behind them. But theres no reason to believe that we cannot go anywhere else and get some sort of result.

Once the summer comes, the purse of Mr Ashley will open wide – of that i am sure and we will get a few very decent players in ready for the start of next season

i agree…we have very good players, but we don’t have a right captain…we need a leader on the pitch…i think that’s our only problem…

i mean…middle of the season and we already had (at least) 5 captains:
    owen? not a captain material
    smith? …no comment…
    butt? really?
given? not bad, but he’s a goalkeeper – can’t be in touch with all the players on the pitch…
geremi? well….we’ve all seen him play…

i don’t know what did sam think…for one match he picked geremi as captain (who’s all melow and calm) and then he chose smith (who’s a bully…with no talent)… i would personally hate it if i had person like smith (also barton) in the team, but also chosen as captain…i mean…wtf? and now owen, who i think lost a lot of respect among players in last 2 years…

we need a player with charisma…somebody players thrust (not like smith and butt as midfielders…with those two i think all of our defenders are scared, ‘cos they know they’ll have twice as much work to do…S&B just let everyone through our midfield, and they can’t create one single chance…no wonder we have problems)

my team for the weekend would be:

    ……………….given
    beye(c) cacapa taylor enrique
    milner faye emre n’zogbia
    …………owen duff

subs: harper, edgar, lualua, barton, viduka

and my comment on this transfer window: well..a bit dissapointed..like i said…i’m sorry we didn’t sign a DMC/box-to-box player, but i think that place is saved for carrick, so if we sign him in summer i’ll be pleased…
and as for rozehnal…well…if we had to let a player go, i’m just sorry it wasn’t smith…

Stop with the Neg guy’s and look to the future of this club. Ok no signings, so waht we have a good strong squad who i believe (coz i’m a fan) that KK can get to play well with each other and we have some really talanted youngsters who will be big stars and will play a big part in the success of this club. Stop being blind and see what this club is trying to do!! I’m glad we have’nt signed anyone coz it will mean that the players we do have can now really show what they are made of and if they want a future at this club then they will need to play there nut’s off, coz come summer time the CHQ book will be out!! Come on the Toon lets get a good run of games a stay mid table….or better!!!

Totally agree IanG – I think realistically we would have been either lucky to get anyone or would have had to pay over the odds for them. Come the summer (as long as we stay in the PL which I think we will) the attraction of playing for newcastle utd will be much stronger than it currently is, a new season a new start….another one.

I just hope that potential targets are scouted and agreed on well b4 the end of the season and the we move quickly, pre-contracts are the way forward, if we were interested in this young czech player why cant we continue negotiations with the player/club and get him signed up b4 the summer.

manu did it with some angloan winger playing in the african cup they signed him beginning of december, why doesnt our club do this? manu secure their man b4 trasnfer window opens, and getting him b4 a major tournament ensures his value does not get inflated. I hate manu but they seem to know how to buy players, i seem to remember they did the same thing with ronaldo

Graham – Yeah I agree with you on some of your points yes. But a game of football is for 90 minutes and you have to keep going, cutting out mistakes as it has cost us in games as we have all seen, yes i no tiredness creeps in, but these fella’s are getting paid 50k per week on average and we are getting what say 25-30k a year, yet we can do the same job. Thats what dishes me off. I was at the emirates and it was the best I had seen us play first half for a long time, could have gone in 2 nill up but it was’nt to be. we got tired and they killed us second half. Our season starts again on sunday. It is a win game only. If we fail to win, then we are going to struggle, but i am not thinking about losing. we are going to win. Lets get this season put to bed with and then we can rip the 1st team up and improve it and hopefully push us onto the next level. Am sure the kids we have signed will stand us in good stead for the future.

Callum why dont you think Faye and beye will play, because they have just come back from playing in a football tornament??They will therefor be match fit and should be raring to go…They should go straight into the team.

Ok we only bought 2 young players who we might never see in the first team, but lets all get behind the team and Keegan,he knows what he is doing.Yes saying we have a small squad then letting Roz go might seem strange but if he was kicking up a fuss and being moody and moaning and saying he doesnt want to be here then yeah get rid. After all its one out and 2 in in keegans eyes as he’s never worked with beye or faye yet,so basically keegan will see it as being one player up…
Lets get the results, probs finish mid table then sort it all out in the summer you’ll see he’ll bring quality in.

I fully agree with the majority of the comments here. WE JUST HAVE to present a UNITED front and get behind KK and the team. We have to keep the faith.

If you look at the press / media over the past two weeks, their conduct has been nothing short of disgraceful and defammatory. I strongly suggest you read the piece on NUFC.com, who, as usual, have put it far more eloquently than I ever could. I feel it is time to close ranks again, circle the wagons once more, put on our black and white face paint and stick two fingers up to the lot of them. We should also refuse point blank to purchase any of these rags which are an insult to the bottom of a bird cage.

WE ARE NEWCASTLE UNITED; KEEP THE FAITH; WE STAND TOGETHER IN BAD AND GOOD TIMES; HOWAY THE LADS.
