Newcastle Need to Display Creativity Again

5:23 pm, Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

Kevin Keegan has had the team together since our Arsenal defeat on Tuesday night, so we’ll be able to see the results of the team’s efforts early tomorrow afternoon.

Michael Owen – due a goal or two tomorrow

We are really short of goals from everybody, not just Michael Owen, but we have also had precious few creative players playing over the last few games. That will change tomorrow when Keegan has the choice of N’Zogbia, Barton and Emre to play in the center of midfield, all three of whom are extremely skilled and creative players.

We hope first of all tomorrow to see Newcastle creating some chances, because as well as a lack of goals, we’ve seen very few chances created since we beat Stoke City 4-1.

Kevin Keegan talked today starting with Michael Owen:

“Yes, Michael needs a goal – all strikers need goals – but we need to start supplying him with chances.”“If you are a forward, you need three or four chances every game, and then you will take the knocks if people start saying you are not scoring goals.”

“In reality, in the three games for which I have been in charge, I can honestly say we haven’t provided him with any good opportunities.”

“He’s had a quarter-chance, maybe one half-chance at Arsenal. In three games, that’s not enough and we are trying to address it – that’s what we have been about this week.”

“Give those guys opportunities – look at Michael Owen’s goal record for England. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody.”

“Newcastle fans know if we provide him with chances, he will score goals because that what he is about. That’s what he has always done and that’s what he will continue to do until the day he hangs his boots up.”

We’re hoping that we can score goals and win the game tomorrow. There’s no doubt we have lost significant ground on teams like Tottenham, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton, West Ham and even Blackburn Rovers this season. That’s not even mentioning the top four teams.

A good run in for the remaining 14 games is what we badly need – starting tomorrow.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

I hope Emre is playing but I doubt that captain Owen will be able to control the lad’s temper.

I jus read lazio paid 1m for rozenhal now and if they want to buy him another 5 in the summer.Thats 6m for a player that cost us 2.9m.I am delighted to hear this and it is excellent business for newcastle as he wasnt that great. We still have cacapa, taylor, faye, beye, tozer, kadar and geremi who can play there so should be fine till the summer when we will be spending big money on top talent….I hope!.

thelongshanks- lazio paid 1 million euros which i think is 750,000 english pounds and i think the 5 million euros is about 3 million in english but still making a profit!!

Emre seems to be the only one showing any real passion, so I’d make him capitano

If Butt finds something else to do tomorrow we can play both Emre and Zog or Emre and Barton. That would be something…

i personally think steven taylor should be made captain. barton has to play with emre in the middle. hopefully have viduka and owen up front. zoggy on the left, milner on the right. drop duff hes lost all his pace and flair or at least hasnt recovered it. id player taylor and faye in the middle. beye on the right, enrique on the left, shay between the sticks.
    Good luck the TA

i think the team will be
    given
    carr taylor cacapa zoggie
    milner barton emre duff
    duke owen

if beye and faye come back in time:
    given
    beye faye taylor zoggie
    milner barton emre duff
    duke owen

enrique is also a doubt so i think that is what the team will be.

Hope for genuine creativity from midfields to Owen,Viduka/Smith/Carroll. As long we keep Butt sitting the bench & not play Smith as DM/CM, there’ll be more flair & our CFs’ll bang in goals for fun this time.

Hmmm…I think we might see that new young Italin tomorrow on the bench!!!!
