Newcastle vs Middlesbrough – Teams – Emre, Barton Start

nufc-crest.png middlesbrough_crest.png

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton will have his first start since his latest altercation on December 27th. Emre is also back following a three-match ban, with James Milner giving way. Also on the bench is the returning Mark Viduka and Fraser Forster is today’s substitute goalkeeper.

Gareth Southgate is without injured duo Tuncay and Mido, while record signing Afonso Alves is still awaiting a visa, but Emanuel Pogatetz and Lee Cattermole are in the side.

It looks like Emre will play on the right wing in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation.

Teams:

Newcastle United: Given, Carr, Taylor, Cacapa, N’Zogbia, Duff, Barton, Butt, Emre, Owen, Smith.
Subs: Forster, Milner, Ameobi, Edgar, Viduka.

Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Young, Wheater, Huth, Pogatetz, O’Neil, Rochemback, Cattermole, Arca, Downing, Aliadiere.
Subs: Turnbull, Boateng, Lee, Johnson, Grounds.

Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)

Disappointed. Emre shouldn’t be on the right wing.

Can’t help thinking that N’Zogbia @ LB is simply wasted there, but Duff has started to show some form on the LHS

Scott, you’re getting the words quality and shite mixed up again aren’t you – been drinking?

I see we are starting with 9 men again. Butt and Smith will be shocking throughout the game forcing the others to do their work for them.

I look forward to the day when neither of them are on the pitch.

So Enrique is injured 🙁 , yes it is a shame that Zog will be lb but lets hope he doesn’t have to do too much defending.

Would have preferred Emre for Barton, and Milner on right wing – and Viduka for Smith – but we’re think the subs will have a fair part of the game in second half – when we’re 3-0 up.

I see only Edgar on the bench as a defender – was it really a good idea to get rid of Rozenhal??

Does anyone reckon we might go 3-5-2 at some point today??

Just watching Jamie Redknapp on SS1 and he f*cking hates us doesnt he!! Any chance he gets to have a dig at th club!

Also, Fat Sam looks well bitter about being given the boot! haha – you chump!

Agree with U on Smith and Butt.
Maybe Smith’s contract has a clause that says he will start whenever he is fit… who knows. Lets just hope and pray lads.
