Keegan Pleased With Newcastle Performance

Kevin Keegan took a lot of positives out of the game with Middlesbrough yesterday, in spite of not being able to win the game, after going 1-0 up with just 30 minutes remaining.

Kevin Keegan – pleased with performance if not the result

Keegan said:

“It was a very eventful game and I thought it was a real derby game, especially in the last 15 minutes. But I thought we did enough to win it.”

“I thought the character of the side was a major plus point and we were three minutes away from getting the three points we probably deserved. We’d prefer us to be able to close the game down at 1-0, but we couldn’t, mainly because we lack confidence, I think.”

“ They threw everything at us at the end and we did get a little exposed at times, but we also could have killed them off on the break.”

“They’ve scored late on and he was definitely off-side, but that is what happens when you are having a tough time. Little things like that tend to go against you. We’ve got a point and I was pleased with a lot of the performances, I really was.”

Our next two games will not be easy with Aston Villa away next Saturday, 9th January with a 12:45PM KO, and then Manchester United at St. James’ Park on 23rd January, with a late 5:15 PM KO.

We’ll have to play very well to take points from those two games, which is one reason why it was important yesterday to win the game.

Did anyone notice how Nzog got nutmegged in the fisrt half by G.O’Neil and didnt make any effort whatsoever to get the ball back or close his man down.
He just jogged back to his LB position??
Has anybody also noticed how Shay does not seem to be wanting to dive for the ball as much as he used to?
Ie the free kick at the end of the match, the third goal v arsenal….normally he would bust a gut to at least try and get near these shots????
Or am I just being paranoid???

We should have Beye, Faye and Martins back for the Villa game. Even though we have not won under KK, I am still reallt optimistic because against Arsenal even though we lost 3-0, some of the football we played was excellent. Even yesterday against Boro, we played good but just can’t seem to hold on to a lead.

Butt and Smith need to be shipped out in the summer. Both are a waste of space. I hear Roy Keane would be interested in both. It will be good riddance to both of them.

just hope the team play the same way against manu as they did against arsenal. If kk can get the team pumped up for the manu game there is a chance we could get something out of the game, manu are not untouchable as spurs proved on saturday, plus witha tea time kick off it gives the crowd plenty of time to get a skin full so the atmosphere should be very hostile as it always is against them w@nkers

we also generally do well against villa down on their pad, so i am being optimistic 2 points from these next 2 games

If only we had bought one right winger during the transfer window we would have been a lot more balanced on saturday. nobby solano for a 6 month stint would’ve been good. or any1 who can cross better than milner. That brings bently to mind.

more service for owen and pace donw the flank, wouldn’t do any harm.

Ive just looked through all the bottom 8 teams fixtures and estimated results i think from this that the 3rd bottom club will have a low toal this year 32 so we should be ok! Im sad to say this is how i think we will finish:

    Boro 38
    Toon 37
    Bolton 36
    Mackems 36
    Wigan 35
    Reading 34
    Birmingham 32
    Fulham 32
    Derby Long gone!

Rocky – I agree…we def need to get rid of Smith and Butt. Everyone’s blabbering on about how consistent Butt has been so far this season(including the chumps commentating for Sky) – of course they’re right….because he’s been consistently average! And Smith is a real Jack-of-all-trades, but by God, he’s definitely a master of none (well, maybe at nearly breaking ankles game-in, game-out!).

And also, I agree that Harper should be given a chance in pegs. Shay has looked distinctly uninterested recently – the Boro goal he just watched as it looped over him….didnt even sticka hand up to at least try and stop it.

Gordon – im pessimistic with our results compared to the other teams that way i cant be disappointed , i went for :

    Villa A 0
    Man U H 0
    Blackburn H 1
    Liverpool A 0
    Brum A 1
    Fulham H 3
    Spurs A 0
    Reading H1
    Pompey A 0
    Sunderland H 3
    West Ham A 0
    Chelsea H 0
    Everton A 0

I hope tho we should get a lot more than this, this was panic thinking!

give shay a break, realistically, looking at that huth goal, nothing he did could of stopped the ball going in. shay is world class, and if your beaten, you know it.

he was wrong footed since gook was in an offside position and went to head the ball, IE, interfering with play.

Rich: dead on, the way we are playing at the moment we will most likely be pulled into a relegation dogfight. i hope keegan can pull things around to avoid this, but as you say the fixture list is daunting. allardyce’s legacy to us: easy games drawn and lost.

Come on lads!…..Why can’t we be positive like our gaffer……Weed out those negativity….

He’s proud of the team….so should we….we should look on to the negative only for the sole purpose of restructuring…..not to lament and whine when the team’s not performing….

It’s a mammoth task to upheave and overhaul this team…and on the whole I find that we are improving…..bit by bit…..
