Charles N’Zogbia Attracting London Clubs

10:25 am, Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 43 Comments

It was something that was bound to happen given the news from Kevin Keegan earlier in the week that Charles N’Zogbia may not be too happy at Newcastle United.

Charles N’Zogbia – wants to play for a London club

There is news today that both Tottenham and Arsenal could be interested in acquiring young Charles N’Zogbia during the summer.

The way we stand now with our squad the last thing we want is to start losing some of our best players, and Charles firs into that category.

Wenger has always been interested in Charles so that’s the reason that Arsenal are mentioned and new manager Ramos at Tottenham seems to have also been impressed with young Charles.

The French midfielder has apparently become unsettled on Tyneside, despite signing a new five-year deal at St James’ Park back in August. He recently cited he wanted to be nearer his family in London, and since both Solano and Dyer were allowed to move because of that reason, if Charles presses for a move, it’s hard to see how the club can stop him.

We don’t know if we’ll be able to keep young Charles at the club but what we can try to do, especially if he moves to Arsenal is try to arrange a swap deal so we can get one or two of Wenger’s young players. That could en dup being a good deal for the club.

But in all honesty, we’d much rather just keep N’Zogbia on Tyne-side. We’ll start a poll today asking our readers if it’s right that Newcastle  should try to keep the youngster at Newcastle, given that he seems to want to leave.

Comments very welcome.

keep him if possible……though he is french and has atendancy to sulk so if he’sstopped from leaving no doubt he’ll go right off the boil.

  • 2 adam // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:31 AM

where do these guys get their info from. i think its BS

  • 3 Eric // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:33 AM

As said before we must keep Charlie. I still think he is being manipulated by media hacks and London interests. He is young and talented and needs all the support the Toon Army and KK can give him. Does he want to be a Tyneside hero and eventual winner or does he want to be a bit part player in a London team? Ashley and Co run Newcastle not Fleet Street! Time we told the press to put up or shut up. Howay Charlie lad and earn your medals on the Tyne!

  • 4 Stami // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:33 AM

i read this same report on skysports earlier this week! i hope we can keep him, he is fantastic!!!

  • 5 broon ale // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:40 AM

what can you do if he wants to leave? cash in and look to replace him!! Simple ! now on with our lives. Who do we replace him with? Well thats where Mr Wise, Jiminez and Vetere can earn there coin!

  • 6 Kash2 // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:41 AM

He’s only going to get better, and Duff will be leaving before N’Zogbia does!!!!

  • 7 Callum // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Lol! Why not his family move up north? Then its a win-win situation… same with dyer and solano, their families could have easily moved up north.

  • 8 Rich // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:46 AM

Totally agree Brron Ale what can you do if the lads not happy itl show in his performances, all we can do is get a good prioce and go and buy a top class replacement. Turan would be quality! Hopefully Emre can sell him a move here.

  • 9 Graham // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:50 AM

If he wants to go for personal reasons then let him go. He’ll never perform to his best abilities if he’s not happy.

Im sure Keegan will do his best to keep him over the next couple of months. By all accounts he’s not that well paid (by footballers standards) at NUFC – maybe we could increase his wages if this is a problem…

  • 10 evildick // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:51 AM

how much do you all reckon he’s worth?

  • 11 Rich // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:55 AM

I think realistically if we get £10 million id be happy.

  • 12 Rich // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:56 AM

Id hope for £12 million though!

  • 13 Chicken // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:03 AM

OMG – so not only are the press responsible for all our bad results, crap players and lack of any kind of trophy – they’re now being blamed for making N’Zogbia want to play for a better football team? What gans on in some of your heads (Eric)??? 🙁

  • 14 AdamCF // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:05 AM

I’m trying to remember the last time a good player wanted to play with a good team?

  • 15 steve k // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:05 AM

in fairness to zoggy i can see why he would want to move to spurs or arsenal. he’s had how many managers since sir bobby? and now he doesn’t even have a proper position. he’s right to feel messed around for the talent that he is.

put in the fact that his family is in london and spurs and arsenal would suit and progress his football better and it’s a no-brainer.

my favourite toon player though, so i pray he stays.

  • 16 Leo* // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:16 AM

5 year contract, lots of clubs will be interested, young, great footballer…. i would not take anything below 15m when you look at what manu paid for carrick then fairs fair he is worth his grain

why when he signed for newcastle did his family move to london, do they actually live in london or is it all bull… newspapers should make up true stories rather than talking crap

  • 17 GP // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:19 AM

Although I would like him to stay, he would likely be easily replaced. If the judas wants to piss off to london then let him, he can join Nobby and the others at Reject United.

  • 18 Chicken // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:20 AM

think it means London is closer to France – just an hour and a bit in Chunnel.

    I could be wrong though.

  • 19 Dragoner // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:23 AM

if he goes i would rather him go to Arsenal, they would develope him better and he would be under a better manager. By the way, i dont think he will go for more than 8 million, clubs now know he is unhappy and they will not bid as much as they would have. This guy is my favourite player and now he wants to leave, its tough being a NUFC fan

  • 20 nightfall // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:24 AM

if he wants to leave, let him…but i hope we can exchange him for sbd.

arsenal: zog for diaby, flamini or van persie
tottenham: zog + (owen or €) for berbatov

  • 21 Kash2 // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:25 AM

@Chicken – Newcastle is far better for travelling than London. I’m from Newcastle and live in London, and trust me, it’s easier to get a flight from Newcastle airport to where ever than try and negotiate through London to get to any sort of national or international transport link!

  • 22 Chicken // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:25 AM

I’d rather have SWP than N’Zogbia – maybe we could use the cash to put in a bid for him?

  • 23 Chicken // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:27 AM

Kash2 – don’t think so mate. Just get the Eurostar from St.Pancras – the middle of the smoke to the middle of Paris in about an hour and a half.

  • 24 obafemimartins // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:28 AM

why do we have to sell him? it isnt willie mckay who accepts bids for him it is the club. he cant go if we dont let him. it is up to us to convince his future is here and we should do that anyway possible. might be happier when geremi (his mentor) comes back. he doesnt have a good choice when it comes to picking mentors. boumsong and geremi are some of the worst players i have seen wear a toon shirt.

  • 25 Hadrian // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:28 AM

5 year contract fully signed up , N’zogbia’s a 15 million jobbie if anyone wants to buy him .
keegan will persuade him to stay on .

  • 26 obafemimartins // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:31 AM

who said we should let nzogbia go? how can you not know. the only answer is YES!!!!!!

  • 27 Chicken // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:33 AM

The point is – there’s not much point in trying to keep hold of a player who doesn’t want to stay and fight for the club – especially a french player.

  • 28 obafemimartins // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:37 AM

there is a point because if we sell him then how many creative players do we have?
nzogbia can LB,LM & CM albiet he isnt very good at left back. we need players like him and selling him means we will struggle even more. there is only option and that is tell arsenal we want adebayor and tell spurs we want berbatov! then see how much they want nzogbia

  • 29 Dragoner // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Not being funny, but does no one else feel like Keegan has forgotten how to act when it comes to the press. Why is making this issue so public, all it is going to do is give papers more to jump on. Add to that his happy attitude after we drew last minute to boro, add to that he just doesn’t carry himself like a professional in interviews in general e.g. after the bolton game he looked half dead and deflated.

  • 30 Dragoner // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:52 AM

i know some people are going to hate this comment, but i cant believe we had the chance to get deschamps and camacho…yet we went for keegan. i was so disappointed when i heard the news. Oh well, i will continue to back the manager regardless.

i guarantee zoggy wouldnt want to leave if we had deschamps right now

  • 31 broon ale // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:57 AM

    Dragoner, you on glue?

  • 32 Hadrian // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:58 AM

no dragoner , keegan making all the smart moves .
he’s made it public charlies moaning again , and made it public how much he wants to keep him .

    serves two points ,
charlies gets guilty, feels wanted and say’s he’ll stay .
tell’s any club that wants him they need to dig deep as he’s just signed a 5 year .

  • 33 thelongshanks // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:58 AM

We shouldnt be letting players go so easily,we are renowned for doing this.If managers want a player to stay they should just do it but for years if someone isnt happy we just let them go for nothing near thier valuation. This has to stop.

Berbatov wanted to leave and spurs said no,simply as.We have let dyer, bellamy, jenas, parker, and solano all for combined 26m and they were great players and this has made us fall down the pecking order in the league.

We are basically a feeder club for west ham at the moment and they are having a better season with bad injures.

If Nzogbia wants to leave I will be gutted. When keegan makes some top signings in the summer and we start preforming nzogbia might change his mind about staying but if we let him go this is a huge step back as he is our best preformer this season by miles.

  • 34 thelongshanks // Feb 6, 2008 at 12:02 PM

sorry for the spelling guys, just think we have to hang on to this player.

  • 35 obafemimartins // Feb 6, 2008 at 12:15 PM

west ham did want to buy nzogbia. imagine their team if they get him. green neill ferdinand upson mccartney solano bowyer parker nzogbia bellamy dyer

  • 36 Kash2 // Feb 6, 2008 at 12:20 PM

@Chicken – Yeah fair enough, but I work in the middle of London and most people travel into the middle. It’s that amount of travelling that usually kills people. You can drive to Newcastle Airport from anywhere in Newcastle without any traffic issues!

hate to be technical ed but i think your headline doesn’t quite mean what you want it to…

  • 38 ObaFan2 // Feb 6, 2008 at 1:35 PM

Wenger won’t pay lots for him it’s not his way. If he want’s to go cash in on him £15 mil + .

  • 39 Tripp // Feb 6, 2008 at 5:02 PM

Arsenal can do far better. They’d only buy him to fix and flip.

  • 40 big pea ov the weab // Feb 6, 2008 at 5:28 PM

keep this lad at all costs he is 1 for the future in my oppinion we should use him as a player to build the team around coz this lad is going to b 1 of the hottest property in football

  • 41 Jeff // Feb 6, 2008 at 7:07 PM

he may be one for the future and a player with great promise But lets look at what is being said here…He wants to move to London because his family live there….Ive said this before,I think its a disgrace that players use family as an excuse…Nzogbia has had his head turned. If he missed his family that much he wouldnt have signed the new 5 year contract not too long ago…His family should live near him anyway after all he is the one who probably buys them the houses they live in…Its a disgrace and he is a disgrace get shot of him….We will move on and get someone else in..Yes he is talented but so what!!!! Look what happened when we sold Cole there was hell on but we went out and got Sir Les then Big Al….Nzog IS Replacable!!!!

  • 42 marcus owen // Feb 6, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Let him go if he want. He is not faithful to NUFC and further more he’s freekick is awful.

  • 43 Nenad in Belgrade // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:13 PM

    I don’t believe you people…

    10 mil, 15 mil….?!

Hell, let’s go for 30 mil, eh… he’s talented, right?

    5 mil MAX….
