Fabio Zamblera has been transferred to Newcastle United from Italian club Atalanta, and Newcastle completed the deal just before the January transfer window closed.
Fabio Zamblera – our new 6’3″ 17 year-old striker
The 17-year-old striker is a product of the Atalanta academy and joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year deal. Zamblera has been capped at Under-18 level for Italy and represented his country in the 2007 Under-17 European Championships in Canada.
The young Italian stands 6’3†tall and is a powerful player, and can score goals. It seems that Newcastle’s new technical director Jeff Vetere, lined up the move for the highly-rated striker. So Jeff seemed to waste no time in getting busy once he was officially hired at the club.
Zamblera never made a first team appearance for Atalanta but comes highly recommended by talent scouts. We don’t know the fee Newcastle United paid, or whether there were any future appearance payments, but reports in the press have stated the fee was around £300K for the player.
It’s unusual for Italian players to move out of Italy, probably because they are so family oriented, but moving so early in his career will make it easier for Fabio to play outside of Italy during his career. Of course there is some evidence that Italians can do well in England, as witnessed primarily by Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea as the best example. Paolo Di Canio is another example and if you’re skilled enough, you can play in the Premier League.
Fabio talked to the Newcastle United site last week after signing for the club:
“Newcastle is a very big club and it has a very impressive stadium.â€
“There are lots of very good strikers at this club and I know there are famous names such as Michael Owen and Mark Viduka.â€
“I can also remember Oba Martins and Emre from when they played in Italy.”
We warmly welcome Fabio to the club and wish him the very best of luck in his future career.

Comment #6I think Ashton would be the best player for us in that position along side Owen/Martins. Viduka is rubbish.

Comment #8Ha Ha Ha you lot know ya football Ashton and Kuyt are good players they would be more affective than Ameobi Smith or Fat Viduka ( though if he were fitter hed be a real asset) Kuyt or Ashton would suit either Owen or Martins.

Comment #9Some of you talk rubbish. Viduka is one of the most talented big bodied strikers in the premiership… He does more to open up defences than any of our other strikers, never loses the ball and draws our other strikers in to the game… Gees, it’s like some of you never actually watch a toon match

Comment #11I absolutely agree Steve. Viduka’s ability cannot come into question – he’s the best in the premiership with his back to goal. People tend to be quick to criticise him just because he’s not the fastest. That’s never been his game though. The guy is class.
I can’t emphasise how important I believe it is he start ahead of Smith for the rest of this season.

More like fat Aussie who (sometimes) turns it on for 10 minutes a match before hobbling off injured.
A past it player isn’t suddenly a good player just cos we got him for free – isn’t Geremi another perfect example of that…?

Comment #13People keep saying ashton but he”s proved nothing in the last 2 years why would we want him, just end up like cort owen viduka big reputation but always injured, infact ashton got no reputation hardly any games and not many goals, cant afford to take any risks in this massive time of need !!!!!!!!!!!! Why dont we just face facts its sad to say but Newcastle United KILLS players….we never sell for more than we pay for,do u think dyer and parker are goin to play 100 games for west ham so we can get the full fee .Idont think so,lets pray we get it right this time..

Comment #17I am an eternal optimist but on the subject of Newcastle United, over the last 4 or 5 years, certainly since Sir Bobby got the chop, I have become a realist and believe me when I say, there is absolutley no chance of Kuyt signing for the Toon, Ashton is very unlikley too, would he realy swap West Ham for us? Only for the money in my opinion as we can’t offer him anything more, football wise, than WHU.
The sooner we accept that we aren’t a ‘big’ club at the moment (as in league possition, trophies, Europe etc) the better! It can only lead to disapointment, and lets face it, we have had more than enough disapointment to last a lifetime!
Its one thing being optimistic but its another being deluded, the press are taking the p1$$ out of us constantly because we want to be the best, sign the best but in reality we are at best underperforming.
I just hope in the next few weeks we can get a good gap between us and the bottom 3 (whoever they may be but lets hope the mackem’s are in there) and then Keegan can give these young lads a crack at the big time.
I really do think Zamblera and Kadar could make the grade and it would be nice to see them get a bit of first team action.

Comment #18gregg b,it pains me to say but i think your right… ill never lose my love for this club but i do find myself asking questions at times… ill always be optimistic,i spend alot of money on the club, but we arnt a big club right now and as much as this wont make me popular im really not sure kk is the man for it now and i dunno if we can attract the typeof players that will push us foward yet…. we need bentley’s, berbatov’s,etc. but i can see us going for lita’s and sidwells’s- good but not brilliant!

Comment #19I’ve been a fan of NUFC since the early Keegan days but I do agree with Stockley that KK might not be the gaffer we need. The game has changed much over the years and we need a brilliant tactician and player motivator at the helm to get the team to perform (if not over-perform) once again. Would have loved to see Capello or Mourinho sign for us. But then again KK might get the job done, if given 3 to 4 seasons to build a solid team foundation with players comfortable playing alongside one another and knowing one another’s next step of action – player telepathy. But hey, would the club management tolerate that, given how managers are shown the exit faster than you could say “Souness”? I believe Allardyce could have won us the trophy if given time and $$$. He’s a more rounded gaffer than KK in my opinion. Still Ashley should spend big in the summer market and get us some good players – Messi, Gargo, Adebayor, Xavi, Barzagli, Ledley King, Micah Richards…I wish…sigh. Most of our current squad should be overhauled, simply not good enough, period., save for Zoggy and Emre; I have a good feeling about Duff in the coming seasons though.

Comment #20am with Greg Breg & M. Stockley, valle & all guys that we do need to keep Viduka & other lads who’d contribute (& scores along the way) in our rebuiding to be ‘Big Club’ (again if ever ) in 2 to 4 years time. Except Ameobi the rest of the bad players in squad i’d give some games occasionally. KK is the man at least for now. Thus just give him a full season to better all of those things.

Comment #30it has to be noticed that clubs similar size to newcastle have very talented young players and it rubs off on the team because of their recognizable potential. theres agbonlahor and young at villa, richards and ireland and the other boy who wears number 6 (cant remember his name lol). if we plant loads of these seeds, hence bring lots of younger players in the chances are there will be a superstar in there. we have signed experienced, international players for alot of money like rozenhal, smith, acuna, bassedas, and they havent worked. we’ve got a new team in now behind the scenes who can hopefully cherry pick some tastey cherries which will ripen in the years to come…

Comment #31Its Funny, when we signed OBA Rumour was he snubbed Kuyt and chose OBA.
At the first few months OBA hadnt scored and NUFC fans were calling for his hea and saying things like ‘Why did we sign Oba and LIverpool got Kuyt hes amazing for the same price!!!’
Its funny how fickle fans are, we are now saying how shit Kuyt is and how we dont want him ever.
sometimes i wonder if its any suprise our club is in such a sad state of affairs.

Comment #32its funny how fickle fans are.
We could of Signed Kuyt but chose OBA people complained and said Oba was rubbish hadnt scored a goal for months and Kyt was on fire for LUFC so alotof epople started to question Roeders decision to sign OBA over Kuyt (for the same price).
Now it seems the fckle fans have changed alligience and are now anti-kuyt.
Is it ever a wonder why our cub is in such a sad state of affairs?

Comment #39I’ve seen Dean Ashton mentioned here.
What do you think of Marlon Harewood with Owen or Oba.
His physical presence is good, not sure about goals per game though!!
Signing Kuyt would be as wise a decision as signing Voronin. Hard workers but not enough end product.
