Keegan Has Selection Choices For Tomorrow

Kevin Keegan will have a few players back for the important game against Aston Villa tomorrow.

Kevin Keegan – spoiled for choice tomorrow?

The Newcastle manager has four players back into his squad – Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye, our two Senegalese defenders returning from the African Cup of Nations, and two players back from injury in striker Mark Viduka and left-back Jose Enrique.

Mark did come on in last week’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough, and it will be interesting now that Kevin has some competition for places who he will pick for the starting line-up..

Charles N’Zogbia is suspended for this game having picked up 5 yellow cards, and Oba Martins will not play because of an ankle injury.

One decision Kevin has to make is where to play Abdoulaye Faye – either at center-back or defensive midfield, but he needs to start somewhere tomorrow. Since Claudio Cacapa has been playing quite well at the back – he may start Faye in defensive midfield for Nicky Butt, and then the other central midfield position will be between Emre and Barton.

However, Kevin may want to start both Barton and Emre because they have some creativity in their play, and can create openings. An element of our play that has been missing lately.

We’d like to see Owen and Viduka start up front and maybe Milner and Duff on the wings in this team:

Given
Beye Cacapa Taylor Enrique
Milner Faye Emre Duff
Viduka Owen
Subs: Harper Carr Butt Barton Smith

Kevin may well want to give another start to Joey Barton, and because Duff had a full game for Ireland against Brazil on Wednesday night, it may make sense to start Damien on the bench tomorrow. Alan Smith has been disappointing up front, and we’re tired of him giving away fouls all the time, and picking up yellow cards – he now has 9 yellows and one more and he’ll miss a couple of games. So we’d be surprised if Alan keeps his place tomorrow, even though he’ll not be happy to be dropped – but who is?

So that’s what we were thinking for tomorrow’s game. What do you think the team should be? This is getting to be an important game for us because we just have to start picking up points in the league.

We’ll have our match preview later today – and we may even alter the above team – but let’s have your thoughts on our best team for tomorrow.

Comments always welcome – just keep the language fairly decent for the bairns.

This is what I would do, but it won’t happen.

    Given
    Beye, Faye, Taylor, Enrique
    Milner, Barton, Emre, Duff
    Carroll, Owen

Let’s give Carroll a shot since Viduka and Smith have been so unproductive lately

Is it me, or is everyone oblivious to Cacapa being a liability??? I think Faye should come in, even though I fear for Cacapa, Taylor had a bad game against Boro.

Maybe it’s worth putting Faye into DM and let Emre loose, and if we need it we can always drop 3 at the back!

However, Enrique and Beye will make a huge difference to the back line. We’ll see a higher line played as they’ll both push up and support the midfield!

i don’t agree with craigg about the bench at least, and definately dont agree with kash2 about cacapa. if you’re gonna drop cacapa (which i don’t think we should ) then he should at least be on the bench for Carr. personally given availabilities would go for:

    ————————–Given————————-

    Beye———Taylor————Cacapa——Enrique

    —————————Faye—————————

    Milner——————Barton——————–Duff

    —————————Emre————————–

    ————————– Owen————————–

I would leave Taylor on the bench. He’s been making to many errors lately, he probably needs a rest!!

Duff should start after his performance on Wednesday night, he’ll have picked up some confidence and will be raring to go against Villa.

    I would have…

    Given
    Beye….Tayls….Cacapa…Enrique
    Milner…Barton….Emre….Duff
    Owen…Viduka

I think he will keep faith after Cacapa had a good game and seems to be getting better in PM, all though Faye could demand a spot soon, may take Barton’s place…

Agree with Craigg’s starting 11 – IF Martins isn’t fit.

If he is I’d have him in the team with Owen and make them get the ball down and pass it.

Martins is injured otherwise prefer him to Owen, as with Viduka and Smith. Milner can replace Zog if his head is not right.

Do you lot have no moral standing at all? The guy is scum and the sooner he gets banged up again the better.

Faye and Emre in the mid.

    Zoggy is suspended unfortunately…

    — Harper —

    Beye — Taylor — Faye — Carr/Enrique

    Milner — Barton — Emre — Duff

    — Owen — Viduka —

I really didn’t rate Given at all against boro – didn’t even bother moving for their goal, i know it was offside but he should have played to the whistle. Shite distribution as well. Cacapa was quality but I’d prefer Taylor’s pace… Not sure if Enrique is fit though he did play 90 for Spain midweek. Emre deserves 90 minutes, and I would like to see lualua or Troisi get 15 minutes later on too

bench of Given, Cacapa, Butt, Lua Lua, Troisi and Smith

I think Given concedes possession too easily because he likes to boot the ball up field every time he gets it. Stuart pearce was going mad with David James the other day for lobbing it up field. KK should have a word with Given too, we need to play possession football and that starts at the back!

I’d like to see Troisi get a run out soon too. Australia are a team developing very well, and he seems to be on the fringe of the 1st team. I don’t really know much about him, has anyone seen him play for the reserves?

bench. given, milner, smith, butt, edgar
given has lost his way a bit so harper should get a turn finally after being out since september! give milner a rest as he needs it! take taylor off in the second half for milner and put faye in defence then.
