Geremi Fails at Last Hurdle – Egypt Wins

Geremi and Cameroon failed to win the African Cup of Nations tonight when Egypt, who are the reigning champions, fully deserved their 1-0 win in Ghana.

Geremi – Cameroon beaten 1-0 in African Cup of Nations Final

Geremi played the full game for Cameroon, but they were unable to overcome a good Egypt performance, who have now won the Championship two times running.

Yet the only goal of the game came quite late in the game – in the 77th minute – when Mohamed Aboutrika poked home a Mohamed Zidan pass. This followed a mistake by Cameroon’s Rigobert Song, who was Cameroon’s best player in their semi final win against hosts Ghana.

Egypt also became the first side to win back-to-back titles twice. Cameroon were seeking their fifth title, but rarely were in the game against the dominant Egyptians.

Geremi did force a save from Essam Al-Hadari from a free-kick, which he has excelled at in the tournament. Maybe that’s how we can score some goals when he returns.

So Geremi will be making his way back to Tyne-side next week, and will be home in plenty of time for the next game at home to Manchester United a week on Saturday, which has a 5:15 pm kick off.

Manchester United were surprisingly beaten today, 2-1, by rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford. The match was played in commemoration of the anniversary of the terrible Munich Air Disaster 50 years ago. But Manchester City, who were 2-0 ahead at half time, thoroughly deserved their win. Sven Eriksson is proving this season, just how good a club manager he is.

we should go out and buy this Mohamed Zidan chap, he played great in the ACN and i think he could be a good attacking mid-fielder kind of player, king kev would like him. what u think?

Zidan is a striker and a flop at club level in the better leagues. Hes got skills but nout else.

He’s been so bad for Hamburg lately. 1 goal in 13, a la Smith, slightly better and adds a hell of a lot more to the team.

yea he is a striker but hes got really good ball skills which could be a good link up with owen and/or martins. i think hes an Elano type player that can play both forward and AM

We have a full team for Man U and changes are needed big time.

    Beye, Taylor, Enrique
    ……….Faye (sweeper)………………..

Its a team that will keep the ball low, it gives us stability in the middle and a good passing game particularly on the left with which to provide the strikers some chances.

With Carroll and Viduka available to mix things up up front if height and hold are needed, Milner for a more attacking right and Capaca and Geremi to shore up the middle we would look a good force.

Whats holding us back apart from anything is no clear indication of who our first teams is. Butt and Smith do not deserve selection on their performance and that this has not been recognised affects other players. They need to be dropped to motivate them and other younger players. I’m suprised Keegan has not used his subs more effectivly and it does point to a lack of direction on his part. Emre needs to be a started and we all want to know the Enrique situation. It seems Oddd KK made such a big deal about Emre then had him on the bench. The kids needs five chances to make a goal not one.

The next few games are tough but you know a victory or some points will give the players and the manager some valuable confidence. I hope the next two weeks are used constructivly. I hate not having a single Newcastle player in my fantasy team lets see some improvment.

    Carn the lads!!!

Dont know if anyone is interested but i went on the BBC predictor and put in realistic results, but as we know in football, anything can happen. I gave it a whirl anyway and the results look good, on my prediction we are already safe with our points tally.

    Heres the finished table.

    1 – Arsenal – 95
    2 – Manure – 92
    3 – Chelsea – 86
    4 – Liverpool – 73
    5 – Aston Villa – 70
    6 – Man City – 68
    7 – Everton – 65
    8 – Portsmouth – 60
    9 – Blackburn – 59
    10 – Tottenham – 55
    11 – West Ham – 50
    12 – Newcastle – 40
    13 – Middlesbrough – 38
    14 – Sunderland – 35
    15 – Wigan – 32
    16 – Bolton – 29
    17 – Fulham – 28
    18 – Birmingham – 27
    19 – Reading – 24
    20 – Derby – 10

Obviously i will sway a bitbut we wont drop to more than 14th and i also think Everton will swap with City and Derby may get a few more points. But you get the gist.

I’d gladly take that, but I’m doubt that it’ll turn out that way. Here’s to hoping. I think we have the potiential to do it, don’t get me wrong, there’s just a sort of cloud hanging over the club right now and I’m not sure what it’s gonna take to shake it off.

what’s the story with KK? Is he all heart, no brain and likes his players the same way? Not playing Viduka, why? Because he doesn’t run around like a headless chicken? He’s 32 yrs, 6″ 2′ and 85 kgs and numpties on this site want him to chase 25 yr old wingbacks who’ve had headstart…

Did we recruit Owen expecting him to grow a foot and put on 15 kg of muscle? Viduka’s slow, get over it – if he has composure, knowledge of the game and can beat his opponents through better positioning – why would he try to win the ball any other way? To the supporters who prefer wasteful endeavour over genuine skill and experience – you realise you’re choosing the mindless running of Smith, Milner, etc. over the possibility of winning games? There is no greater encouragement for the opposition than to see you’re opponent run themselves ragged for no result in the first-half – knowing you’re going to walk all over them in the second because you weren’t dumb enough to do the same. Bunch of dumb f*ckin headless chickens this Newcastle side, led by self-confessed motivator who knows little about tactics…

I think from the ACN we can see that Geremi is a good player, when he is played in his correct position. This position is RWB.
Not RB, nor RM, not CM.
He is a very good attacking RWB.
In the same way as Sevilla play with Alves (and no I’m not saying he is in the same league as Alves as a player).
Depends how Keegan wants to play but he could be very useful.
He was basically Cameroons best player, and supplied so many good crosses, which is something that has been in short supply.
Also I think that Enrique didn’t start because he had 90 minutes in midweek after coming back from injury and by the time Keegan would have wanted to sub him in the game was already gone.
Emre is obviously not fully fit yet (and with his record of injuries he needs to be nursed back). Barton also needs to be eased back as he has missed so many games.
That is the only excuse for butt being on the field.

It’s likley that Barton will be banned due to his attack on villa player off the ball – the blokes a muppet.

Butt is friggin useless, he can’t pass short or long

Faye & Taylor at back for me
we really need some creativity in midfield, lets chuck one of the young uns in – would be good for them to play against Man U, lets face it we’ll be expecting to get beaten and we def will with Butt & Barton playing

Forgive me lads but this is a lil off topic. Alan smith hasnt scored a goal since 2005! Bloody three years. So everytime i watch a newcastle game it makes me wonder where the next goal is gonna come from. Anyways although geremi is slow or whatever he is definatetely better than nicky butt in my opinion.

We all seem to have theme tunes ie Tom-Toon and Chickiwotsit. Well mine is Duff to play left back but only if the obvious choice isn’t fit or is still not flavour of the month, I mean of course Enrique. I predicted before the game that Butt and Carr would play, which was a disaster in itself but to have Carr at left back, well I was stunned whatever is going on.

I thought Geremi had a good game he covered miles in the game and looked really positive both in attack and defence if he did the same for us then he would be a real assett. I’m not sure if the standard of the ACN is as good as the EPL so it be wrong to expect to much. Still has to be better than Carr although I would prefer Beye to play with him on the bench (Geremi not Carr, I’d have him on a taxi)

    Owen, Martins
    N’Zogbia, Emre, Geremi, Milner
    Enrique, Cacapa, Faye, Beye

Duff can replace Zog or Jimmy if things aren’t working out. Duke to replace Owen or Martins depending on who is the least effective (probably Oba).

For anyone who continued to stand by and support that horrible little thug JB. I hope you have finally seen sense, or are you going to give the little scumbag another final last chance?

we might be in for quite a battle with boro if afonso alves plays the way he did at Heerenveen. Who knows? they might even finish above us.
