17 year old Ben Tozer seems to be settling in very nicely on Tyne-side, but still hasn’t quite come to terms with the top players at the club and the great St. James’ Park Stadium.
Ben Tozer – settling in well on Tyne-side
Tozer trains with the likes of Michael Owen, Shay Given and Damien Duff and still has not quite got used to be next to these big stars.
Ben told the Official Newcastle United Web site today:
“It was brilliant to make my debut last week,” “To walk out at St James’ Park is fantastic.†“It was in front of some empty seats, so it would be amazing to do it in front of a full house.â€
“Man City was a tough game, but it was worthwhile after playing against some experienced players who are worth a lot of money.†“Games like that are difficult and it took me a while get into it, but in the end it was a good defensive display from all of us.”
“Mpenza was probably one of my most difficult opponents, but at this level a lot of players are going to be in that category.†“All Premier League players are of a certain caliber, and you don’t want to give them too much respect.â€
“You know who they are and you know it’s going to be tough, so you have to be ready.” “You see them on TV one minute, and the next you are standing next to them in training!â€
“But you soon realize that they are just one of us. At first you are thinking about them, but soon you think he might be wondering about me!†“It’s a good experience and I’m settling in well.”
We really like Ben, he’s so down to earth and like any other wide eyed 17 year-old. The only difference is he’s a great player in his own right at just 17 years old, and the club have great expectations of him. That’s why he’s at the club, and we’re sure he’ll do just fine, with such a good attitude.
He’s played extremely well when he’s been on display and we hope he keeps learning and keeps his feet firmly on the ground. Ben will be on display tonight when Newcastle Reserves host a strong Liverpool Reserves side. It should be a cracking game of young stars in the making.
Liverpool have finally announced their team for tonight’s game, and it can be watched live on LFC TV and on-line from 7pm. Live coverage tonight gets underway at 6.45pm GMT when Matt Critchley will be joined in the studio by former Liverpool player John Durnin for expert analysis.
