There have been reports ever since the opening of the January transfer window, that Lazio striker Goran Pandev is a target for Newcastle United.
Goran Pandev – see you in the summer
The Daily Star Sunday reported back in January that Kevin Keegan was interested in the striker, who has already attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool and Valencia this season.
Goran talked about Newcastle’s move in January:
“This morning the people from the club told me about the offer from Newcastle,”
“Keegan’s club want the negotiations to start soon, but I don’t know anything about the figures and a possible sum.â€
“I am used to offers lately, but I don’t decide, so this time it’s not up to me againâ€
“Several days ago we agreed with Lazio for me to stay up to June, but anything is possible.”
But this may be one transfer that we are pursuing for the summer, since Keegan has already said he though it would have been a risk to bring in stars from Europe in the January window.
If Kevin signs them early in the summer, they will have a couple of months to acclimatize to England, and to how Keegan wants Newcastle to play.
Pandev has played 121 times for Lazio since joining them in 2004, and has scored 38 goals for the Rome club. He stands just over 6’0″ and his favored position is as a supporting striker.
Here is Goran’s full playing record to date:
Years Club App Goals 2000–2001 FK Belasica 24 6 2001–2004 Internazionale 0 0 2002–2003 Spezia (loan) 22 4 2003–2004 Ancona (loan) 20 1 2004– Lazio 131 38 2002– Macedonia 36 12
Goran was born in Strumica, in the old SFR Yugoslavia in July, 1983, which is now the Republic of Macedonia.
What do you think?

Comment #2Not just that GEORDIE69 but how can we compete with the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool and Valencia for players unless they just see ££££ signs only.

Comment #5His goal scoring record doesn’t make me jump with excitement and I wouldn’t cry if we lose out on him.

Comment #8Oh brilliant points guys, really. He’s not about scoring goals, he’s about linking up the midfield and attack. Who in our team can do that at the minute? You’re all going on about how we have enough strikers – but Smith, Viduka and Ameobi have to go in the summer. That’d leave us with Owen, Martins and the youngsters Carrol and Zamblera. None of those players are like Pandev.
Not that it matters anyway because we’re too shit for him.
