Are Newcastle Still Interested in Ben Haim?

There are reports today that Newcastle United may still be interested in Tal Ben Haim of Chelsea.

talbenhaim-13.jpg

Tal Ben Haim – are Newcastle still interested in him?

But we would tend to question the reports that say that Keegan is interested in Ben Haim. When Big Sam was at the club, the acquisition of the Israeli would have made sense, because the player had worked closely with Sam at Bolton, and could have been a big help at Newcastle.

With Kevin now in charge it doesn’t make as much sense as before, and certainly Ben Haim is a bit player now at Chelsea. We wonder if he would be good enough for Newcastle now. Certainly he could play as a full back, but we think he’s not a top class center back.

He was of course a free agent in the summer, but we think Chelsea manager Avram Grant could let him go in the summer for a reasonable fee of around £2M. That would be a £2M profit on the player in 12 months for the London club, so we don’t think they’d be too greedy.

But let us know what you think about Ben Haim.

Is he still good enough and would he fit in at a Kevin Keegan Newcastle?  If there’s enough interest we’ll run a poll on him.

Comments welcome.

Why do we need him? Is this another baseless media story? He knew of Toon interest before and opted for Chelsea – so if he is a bit part player for them now he has only himself to blame. Another wannabee turned cannabee!!
We have Beye what do we want Haim for? Or has some reporter made this up because his column was running dry?

he is actually not good enough for us to be honest. if we are to go places next season, we need to be looking at better defenders than him.

Hey Ed well done with the new page header – it looks much better now.
Could I just point out though that the league table on this page actually looks better than in real life!!!!
I think we should concentrate on who should be shipped out also – First names on this list are Carr and Ameobi. These two aren’t fit to wear the shirt.

Money money money, thats the only reason these players will come, no passion or love of the club and it will ever be in these players.

I agree what goes out is significant to what comes in. Ameobi clearly not a fan of keegans, thank god. Carr, terrible right back…hurrendous left back. Geremi good bye. The zog can pi** off too if he’s gonna play the dyer family card. Its bright lights and cocaine that attracks these players to london. I like smiths attitude, but that doesnt replace talent. Give me the shirt, for christ sake ill give it my all every second im on the pitch, doubt anybody would care if i was shi*! Actually i reakon i could bag a least one goal in the season so far. Which is 1 more than smith. There are more, i can go on but not gonna name them all.

Bring in young, talented, ambitious with a few bigger names to find the balance, but for gods sake stay well away from the champs league rejects. The reason they dont get a game is cause there not good enough at high levels, we must learn that. I.e.babayaro, parker, geremi.

Personally I think Wes Brown would be a good signing and Ben Haim isn’t the type of player we need anymore considering we have Faye and Taylor. Brown has alot more pace to burn so will compliment Taylor and Faye well depending on the opposition, plus he’ll be back up for RB when Beye is unavailable or playing shit like he did against Villa. Beye’s still class though!

Whats the point in all this player speculation?

We have to ensure our Premiership survival first, then we can concern ourselves with who else might be coming to St James’s Park.
Until the time when we are mathematically safe, I suggest we forget all the rumours and just get behind the team.

For what it’s worth though, Ben Haim is Ok, but surely we should be aiming higher than (as already rightly pointed out) top four rejects.

I agree with that Kash2 – Ben Haim would be useless but Brown would be good cover for RB and CB. Realistically i would like to see the following happen.

    Out:
    Ameobi £2m
    Carr: £500k
    Butt £1m
    Smith £3.5m
    Rozenthal £3.5m
Geremi £2m ( unlerss he vastly improves until the end of season)
    N Zogbia £8m( unfortunately)

    Total = £20.5m

    In:
    Wayne Bridge £6m
    Wes Brown Free
    Peter Crouch £8m
    Barzagli £9m
    Aiden McGeady £12m
    Arshavin/Kahlenberg 1 of these £7m
    Giles Barnes £3m
    David Albelda £4m
    1 x DM £7m

    Total =£56m

Total net spend =£35.5m Good squad that could then finish top 6 challenge top 4

We know the team needs quality new additions but what is all this recent press hype about Ashley trying to sell out?
These media monkeys think they are transfer agents as well as big business brokers now do they? Shearer as a front man for a North East takeover coup? Also an Arab consortium? It seems like a load of hogwash to me – they will say we are asking the UN for our independence next!! All deigned to upset and destablise in favour of their top four moneybags prima donna favourites. Come on the Toon – slam Manky U. Please!!!

Rich, your list and prices are cloud cookoo land mate.

    Out:
    Ameobi £2m – ??? Nah…£1million at most
Carr: £500k – Will go for nowt
Butt £1m – Half a million at most.
Smith £3.5m – Fair price but who’d want him?
    Rozenthal £3.5m – £2million at most
Geremi £2m ( unlerss he vastly improves until the end of season) – Again, less than that.
N Zogbia £8m( unfortunately) – About right, Spuds will cough up, no doubt.

    Total = £Around 14-15 million…

    In

Wayne Bridge £6m – Can’t see it, too cheap (English remember, so he’ll be more – or wont come anyway)
Wes Brown Free – maybe, but going to be 29, will lose his pace, never been really great and Fergie only sells players who are past it – haven’t we learned this lesson already?
Peter Crouch £8m – They’d want more than £10 million.
Barzagli £9m – Class player, will have plenty of other options than us.
Aiden McGeady £12m – £12million?!?!? Half that and maybe, but more than that, no, no, no!
    Arshavin/Kahlenberg 1 of these £7m – Yeah, good shout.
Giles Barnes £3m – They want £5million, and rightly so – terrific young prospect – for once, let’s buy him so Spuds can’t.
David Albelda £4m – Maybe, but too old.
    1 x DM £7m – ?!?! Rio Mavuba?

    Total =£56m

    hi am 15,
If we want to finish in top 6 and top 4 which might mean top 4 rejects but only if they have not had there best years.
top 4 rejects that a do not want.

    finnin(liverpool)
    gudjohnson (ex-chelsea)
    kewell(liverpool)
    senderos(arsenal)

top 4 reject a would have that might be avalable
    sw philliphs (chelsea) 15m
    w.bridge (chelsea) 5m
    carrick(man utd) 16m
    crouch (liverpool) 15m

ricardo carvaloh 15m -mourinioh has gone that the only reason he went there. does not get a game when tery ,alex and ivanovic are fit.
    boswinga 10m

Try and get a lot or all the players in straight away a get them gelling togeather.
e.g beye and a.faye last minute buys
1 week before the transfer market close we sign cacapa ,smith and enrique.
1 month afer the transfer market starts we sign viduka , baron and rozenhal.
buy the players before they go on there summer holidays aboard.
    given
    beye s.taylor carvaloh riise
    milner huddlestone n’zogbia sw phiiliphs
    owen henry
    subs
    martins,harper,faye,bentley, barton
We cant just put boswinga straight into the team we have to gel him into english football just like wenger has done over the years with henry, van persie, viera, edurdo, flamini, clichy, almunia etc

Some fair points Edd case, maybe i was dreaming a bit with prices, I think we may get Barnes a bit cheapre with Derby going down though, Albelda is getting on a little bit but a lot better than we have in the position and is not happy at Valencia. The only reason i priced Mcgeady so high is that Celtic wont sell for less than at least 8 million, id pay up to 10 personally i think hes brilliant.Rio Mavuba is a good shout though mate!

    No top 4 rejects???

Id love us to get Michael Carrick, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge,
Gilberto Silva and Peter Crouch from top 4 all top class players with loads of prem experience these sort of players are the best we can hope for.
I would also like us to try and re-sign Aaron Hughes if Fulham go down. He was decent at right back until we signed CARR and good cover across the defence i couldn’t understand why he was sold in the first place ( Another Souness Masterstroke)

The squad would be excellent for next season and i would back us for top 8 finish and european qualification it would look as follows:

    Given/Harper

    Beye/Hughes Taylor/Cacapa Faye/Ramage Bridge/Enrique

    Wright-Phillips/Milner Carrick/Gilberto Emre/Barton N’Zogbia/Duff

    Owen/Martins Crouch/Carroll

Outs: Smith, Carr, Shola, Viduka, Geremi, Butt.

I would send as many of our youngsters as possible on season long loans inc:

Edgar, Kadar, Tozer, Krul, Forster, Godsmark, Baheng, Donaldson would all benefit from playing competitive football at championship level.

My god, after keegan arrived eveyone on here started listing ridiculous players that he should get, the champ manager debate i think i referred to it last time. Do people really think that after the way things have gone so far that these player are any more likely to join? answer NO!!! we have to earn the right to have a team of players people are suggesting. We are total wank at the moment, next season is about regaining a bit of pride and nothing more. We are not gonna challenge for anything next year.

Keegans not a magician, the reaction he got last time arrived in the prem was after establishing a team for a season and building on it. Not by waving a wand and suddenly seeing an impact. Heads out of clouds come to mind.

We are currently a mediocre team fighting for survival, we are not suddenly gonan be given top 6 status next year without a significant transitional period taking place. Why dont people understand that? its that kind of attitude that given our fans the tag of thinking we are better than we are and being totally laughed at!!! Proper fans who go to the games every week no what the crack is, unfortunately its people who go on like we have a divine right to be a top 4 team make us look stupid…

I dont think that my list of players is ridiculous Carrick is behind Hargreaves, Scholes, Anderson and maybe Veloso(Fergie linked with him a lot) fergie also loves playing Fletcher and O’Shea in centre midfield as well.

SWP has had a run but chelseas main midfielders lampard, Mikel, Essien, Ballack, all back and Malouda, joe cole and Kalou are the favoured wingers i also think they will play a narrow 442 to play drogba and anelka

Gilberto is totally out of the picture and future plans at Arsenal

Bridge is second choice at chelsea and will need to play as Cappello wont pick players who arent playing week in week out and he also has shorey breathing down his neck for his england place.

Crouch hasnt been first choice at scousers he pretty much is fourth choice behind Torres, Kuyt and Voronin for some reason

I hardly think Aaron Hughes is a mad unrealistic choice

im also a season ticket holder

These players might be out of favour but why would they want to choose to join us?? apart from money, which draws us back to the same argument before! i agree some of them may be possible but its a lot more likely foreign players in lower class leagues, i.e. denmark, sweden and perhaps germany would be more realistic. The sort of players ericsson has unearthed. Thats the route i feel keegan must take. If this so called scouting network can come up with a few names, great.

I hope so more than anything, the strain of being an nufc fan has made me very pesimistic to any future glories.

It still hurts me when i think of that goal by cantona which effectively lost us the title all those years ago. I’ve never seen us dominate so much and lose. Also, that and the goal by graham fenton (alleged geordie) who scored for blackburn against us, again contributing to our demise. Set up by Alan Shearer i may add. In effect Shearer cost us the title that year. Only joking!!! 😉 dont jump down my throat..

Chris G i honestly beleive that Man city, Vila Spurs, Everton( Maybe not rich enough) and Ourselves can bridge the gap to the top 4
Blackburn and Boro dont have the financial clout
Portsmouth as improved s they are in my opinion cant have the attraction to players that we have even if they qualify for the UEFA cup.
Lesser clubs than us can attract players dropping from the top teams look at pompey with Diarra and Campbell
I think if we stay up we will see some of the players that i mentioned
I personally think Ramage is better that people give him credit for and I think Aaron Hughes would happily sit around and wait for his chances with minimum of fuss and again was generally solid where ever and when ever played

I definately think in time with the right manager we could definately be a force again, just not in the time scales people expect. My heart says yes to keegan but my head would rather had a ramos, hitzfeld type character. Someone to really develop us. Dont get me wrong im happy with keegan and 110% behind him and given a few good results the atmosphere can really make a difference again. Only he can get anywhere close to that kind of atmosphere again. We had a taste of it with the bolton game.

I must add despite my negativity i will add, considering the media are making such a big fuss about 5 games, 0 wins. Taking away the fa cup game. Its simply, played 4, drawn 2 lost 2. Lost against Arsenal and a revived Villa. The game against boro we won. We scored 2, they scored 1 offside goal. Only the officials lost that day. But thats another debate.

Again, yes i think we can be up there again. Certainly 4th spot is up for grabs these days, but currently we are so far off its worrying. For a club of it mangitude, 14th richest in the world, its ridiculous where we are, but people need to realise we are where we are for a reason.

I dont think we are good enough for top 4 i said top 8 back in europe via UEFA or intertoto

I think liverpool will beat everton, city and villa and finish 4th

I think we can despite ours and spurs league positions i think we both can still attract better players than everton, villa, pompey, blackburn, west ham (the UEFA cup isnt much of a pull in my opinion) due to finaces, stadiums, training facilities and fanbases etc. Plus KK is a massive name throuhout the world, a very good persuader full of enthusiam and passion compared to the Corpse like Personalities of Moyes, curbishley, Hughes and Redknapp.

O’Neill and Ramos are well respected coaches but KK is different he is/was Many players hero he talks a better game than these other guys and i think player want to play his entertaining, sexy carpet football not for example Everton & West hams 451 at home dull long ball dross. Although spurs and villa play good football
