Given Expecting to Get Points on Saturday

Shay Given has talked today how Newcastle are expecting to get something out of Saturday’s game against second placed Manchester United at St. James’ Park.

Shay Given – usually plays well against Man United

Shay Given told Newcastle World TV today:

“We’re expecting to get points,” “We are in a bit of trouble at the moment, so us as players are expecting to get points on board.”

“It’s all about everybody sticking together and working hard to get results to get us away from the bottom half of the table.”

“If the likes of myself and some of the older players can help as experienced pros then we will do that, but it’s all hands to the pump at the moment – young and old.”

Given was beaten 6 times in the second half at Old Trafford, in the second game after Allardyce was sacked. The defense in front of him collapsed badly, not for the first time this season, although we hope it’s the last.

We weren’t doing too badly until we conceded 3 goals in the last 5 minutes of that game.

Shay talked about that game:

“It was a terrible game for the club and all the fans and players,” “Man United on the day were brilliant to be fair and we were poor”

“But to lose any game 6-0 is embarrassing and we have to put that right and have a reaction to that and being at home is a big help.”

You can only be brilliant if the opposition allows you to be. On that day, just like on Saturday against Arsenal, the opposition allowed the Red Devils to be brilliant. In the 6-0 and 4-0 defeats, both Newcastle and Arsenal were hardly anywhere near their best in those games.

Let’s hope we will not allow Manchester United to be brilliant on Saturday.

We badly need to get some points on the board.

Comments very welcome.

I expect something as well.. a hiding!Seriously though we got a good point against Arsenal at home( should have been 3). If we play like that we have a chance! Unless Rolypoly Carr is in the back line then im not going to watch

I admire his confidence but i think he may have taken a few too many painkillers and his judgement may be rather clouded. After seeing what they did to Arsenal i am afraid i will not be watching this one and i advise Given to stay in bed aswell.

Anything other than a thrashing will be very welcome. A point would be great and “I would love it, just love it, if we beat them”

Just cant see it happening though!!!!!

Does anyone think Shay has actually been injured or just embarrased it isn’t the first time he has made a mistake in a match then supposedly picks up an injury but he then make’s a miraculous recovery and make’s the starting 11 for the next match.

if thats the case, CJ, then why did he stay on the pitch for the Man United game and endure the rout? C’mon, give Given a fair chance.. The stomach injury he suffered against M.Harewood had been described by doctors and surgeons that they thought he had been involved in a traffic accident. Its that bad. Its a pity thou, he didn’t manage to rediscover his true form after that. But still, he was brilliant, even in that 6-0 drubbing from the red devils. He made some excellent saves to keep us in the game until the defence of Taylor, Carr, Enrique, Cacapa and a misfit Butt collapsed infront of him.

Hope this Sat we can see a better performing team for two halves. Seems like recently we can only play magnificently well in 1st half, and then switch off in the 2nd..

So what is the problem for the team to collapse totally in ther 2nd half? Is it down to the failed FITNESS PROGRAM, supposedly the scientific approach from Sam’s backroom staffs? Or is it the player’s MENTALITY hasn’t been improved, and therefore the lack of self confidence and belief in the approach to the game? Is it the confusing TEAMTALK that KING KEV is giving in the dressing room, as reported by the press (which i don’t believe)?

No matter what, this is the 1st time in many, that i witnessed our team collapsed completely in the 2nd half for more than a couple of games in succession.. We gotta buck up and pull up our socks soon, or its going to get real dangerous..

By the way, thanx a million for mentioning me on the website for the banner, ED.. 🙂

And thanx for liking it, mates.. The reason for the 11players on the banner, are the people’s choice – your choice, which i gathered from this website and these players got the most votes in your ‘fantasy line-up’. Obviously i can’t please everyone here, but well, they are the popular choices, and certainly, i don’t think that’s a bad line up at all!

*Just wondering if we’ll EVER be able to see that line up

I think Given willhave dropped more than his hernia on this one. I gave up fairy tales when I left the primary school. Nice of Given to think of trying to keep us happy though. Anyone any thoughts on our sponsors? Are we going to have ‘Nationalised Rock’ one the chest and ‘Thank You My Darling’ on the arse of our shorts?
