Poll: Should Shearer Join Keegan at Newcastle?

We have a new poll out today and are asking the question – SHOULD SHEARER JOIN KEEGAN AT NEWCASTLE?

Alan Shearer – should he link up with Keegan in the summer?

We think it would be good to have Shearer working with Kevin, and after hearing Keegan’s comments on his recent fans call-in on Radio Newcastle, we believe they can indeed work together for the benefit of the club.

But there also quite a lot of our fans out there who don’t think it will work, with two high energy and strong characters working together.

Let us know what you think.

We’ve also decided to leave our polls up and open for extended periods, since it gives us a good idea of the way fans are thinking on the questions of the day associated with Newcastle United. We also think it’s interesting information.

Comments always very welcome.

KK needs to stand on his own two feet. AS has had to much infulence at NUFC in the past. AS has no mailice for the club, but I believe that AS presence (if role is significant) will only undermine KK and that will be Tripple BAD for the club.

I welcome AS in the future but he needs to strut his stuff elsewhere for the time being and learn the trade.

I am open to the fact that I could be wrong and the partnership could be the best thing that ever happened to the club. However, the risk is huge and the prospect of relegation looms if they get it wrong!

    Will AS influence team selection?

will he play Faye instead of Butt, Carol instead of Smith???

Our main issue is the team selection!!!

NO! Please no. Like Sandy, i feel that Shearer has had to much influence at the club for years and this would only spell major trouble for Keegan – i reckon he would be gone within a year if Shearer came in at any capacity.

I’m sure Keegan thinks they could work together and maybe they could but it would do nothing for the long term stablility at the club.

Yes, Shearer has the best interests of the club at heart (alongside his own), but is a lot of NUFC fans who think he is a scaled down version of god; and the press who would end up heaping massive pressure on Shearer to take over as soon as something doesn’t go their way (like now for instance)

off subject slightly – ive just notices the poll about offloading players in the summer. Intersting to see that 6 out of the 9 are Allardyce buys from the summer.

I’d like to think it could work, but the club is looking a bit “manager-heavy” already. I suspect Big Al will be off managing in the Championship next season, so it’ll be a moot point.

But is it just me that thinks he could have got us to capitalise better on all that posession in their half on Saturday? Brains and guile are what we need there and AS has both.

If his influence got the team scoring and winning then then it is a no brainer, of course he should be on board. He could have been already, just what has been his problem?

Off topic but a lot of people are saying we dont need Lomano Lua Lua back.
I remember seeing us 1-0 down at highbury in 2001 when the master(bobby) brought on Lua Lua and Robert to play on the wings Lua Lua on the right Robert on the left and they turned the game in our favour
Lua Lua dribbling past ashley cole on numerous occasions put a fine string of crosses which campbell and Keown had to be at their best to deal with and set up our fist with a great corner put right on O’Briens head and After Robert won a pen which Big al scored. Lua Lua Then set up Robert for the third with a wonderful throughball on the half volley from the right wing that curved right into roberts path 3-1, that took us top of the league at crimbo! god what would you give to get those times back.
He is incredibly talented despite what some of you say about him.
If he comes back i wouldnt get rid of Owen or Martins they would rotate and play alongside Ashton(Please) or Big Andy Carroll roatated, he would play wide on the right rotated with Milner and to cover injuries up front. We will do well to get too many more quality players who genuinely want to come to our club for reasons other than money due to our league position.

    Just a thought

craigg, lua lua is using our name to bag himself a pay rise virtue of raising his profile via the media. he wasnt good enough for pompey or newcastle.. granted he is unpredictable but we struggle to string passes together amongst a set of players who are utterly predictable nevermind throwing lua lua into the mix.

Not the management, he needs to go away and learn his trade after he has finished on TV.

I agree on the “off subject” of removing Licky Butt, but not with the Shearer issue.

It’s like Ian says above, he should go to a club and learn the trade before he can step in at SJP.

He’s always banging on about his love for Newcastle. Now’s the time. Either go in as and assistant manager and learn from Keegan without getting too big for your boots, or go and get a proper job as a manager at a smaller club.

I believe the expression is put up or shut up.

Put up or shut up indeed.

Keegan should have sorted this out by now.

I would have liked to have seen the overlooked Ally McCoist having something to do with the team.

The job he did with Scotland was pretty damned good and it’s carried over to the job he is currently doing with Walter Smith at… er… Rangers?? (correct me if I’m wrong on the Rangers thing)

Waiting with not being sure is another cloud hanging over the club and one we do not need.

Can anyone really see Shearer on about 2-5 grand a week like most Ass managers. The only way Shearer would become Ass manager was if he was on huge money cos he obviously won’t go from millions a year to 100 grand a year.

Does any1 else think all this talk of Shearer makes us feel like a small club? Also sick of some people saying Taylor for Captain just cause he’s a local lad – does that make him a winner, experienced or even a decent centre-back – probably not. While we are at it why not play Ant and Dec up front – after all they are local lads! If that’s the only criteria then I’ll play centre-mid too.

Keith- 100% agree about Taylor people don’t criticise him cos he is a local lad and always after the match claps the fans at the end i have been saying for ages he is hugely overated. Woodgate showed when he signed for us that 1 good defender can make a bad defense into a good defense and Taylor cannot turn a bad defense into a less than average defense.

Alan Shearer has not had any management experience, so bringing him in may not even be half as good as getting Steve Maclaren.
The only reason why Alan Shearer has been so heavily linked with the club is purely based on the fact he was such a great player for us. But as we all know, great players do not always turn out to be great managers, or in this case, assistant manager.
I’m not saying Alan Shearer will not become a good manager in future, I’m just saying, maybe its just not the right time for him now. So stop linking Shearer to the job.

i think shearer should come…yes, he doesn’t have any management experiences, but so fcuking what…he said we should buy carrick, bentley, and ashton…so the guy has some logic – he knows where we are weak…and we all know he can motivate players…

looks like he’s smarter than BS & keegan, who play(ed) smith & butt & barton every fcuking match possible…

In response to Steve K: how’s yer maths? We’re 6 points and five places out of the rellie zone at the moment. So to go down, we would have to lose two more games than Reading, at 17th. All five of the teams inbetween would also have to do better than us in the remaining 11 games.

So given that, are you saying we can’t get results – even with our current squad – out of Birmingham, Fulham, Reading and the Mackems?

Shearer’s right – we’re not safe, but the odds are stacked against us going down.

Mind some big make or break 90’s coming up !! TOON TOON !!

No way, The idea is stupid and I am gald the rest of the fans on this site think so. He has no management experience, nothing to go by and I doubt he has his badges. So hell no. Even in the future, we do not need another English manager, pleas their records are crap.

Look at the top teams, three of them have none Eglish manager, notice the trend.

If Big Al joins then there would be a huge morale boost in the Newcastle camp. Him being there will be a big influence on the team, he doesnt even have to work with us, all he has to do is be there and then the confidence and morale will go up and then the wins will come, Keegan and Al in one team will boost the teams chances as Al knows what its like when Newcastle have been in struggling situations and he would make sure working with Keegan that we stay up this season and then fight for a place in Europe.

Also i heard that Shearer believes Keegan can keep them up and will stay there for the 3 and a half years contract, well even if Shearer is assistant manager, it would be quite some time since he gets that job so he can get plenty of experience during time
