Newcastle captain Michael Owen has appealed to the St James’ crowd for their full support for 90 minutes at tomorrow’s vital game.
Michael Owen – scoring against Wigan – team needs crowd’s support
Michael spoke to the Evening Chronicle today:
“The crowd are important for us tomorrow – more so than ever.â€
“Last week they were great, and one of the first things the manager said afterwards was about the crowd. He told us how they never booed and how they were with us all the way through.â€
“If we’re going to get out of this confidence crisis or run of results, whatever you choose to describe it, it’s not just important for the players to stick together.â€
“It’s important for everyone to stick together and do it for the manager.†“And the crowd can do their bit.†“The last thing we want is the crowd on our back.†“Some people can handle that and it’s water off a duck’s back.â€
“But it can make others go into their shell.†“The fans, as they always do, got behind us last Saturday.†“And if they are behind us again, it will help us get out of the situation we are in.†“I know I don’t need to ask them because they are always supportive.â€
“The manager said as long as you show determination, a will to win and that you are wholehearted in the challenges you make then our fans will support you even if you make a mistake.â€
“That’s the beauty of it.”
“If the fans stick with us and we stick together as team on the field and don’t argue or blame each other – if we are all united – we will start to pick up points.â€
Well, we’re all in this together, and there’s no better support at home than at Newcastle United, that’s a certainty. And we expect the crowd to be right behind the team tomorrow.
But as Michael points out, the players have to come out and also do their part on the pitch, showing the correct fighting attitude and spirit. If we can do that, we’ll be well on our way to all 3 points.
What do you think?
Comments very welcome.

Comment #6I dont think its a change in spirit at all, except before when he was injured people doubted him for no reason but now he is captain he has to be more vocal so we can see how dedicated he is. Ill never know why so many people got on his back through no fault of his own.

Comment #9When Owen is fit, he’s a formidable striker who will always score goals. To help him out, I would like to see Andy Carroll at CF and Martins playing as well.
To win the match we have to score goals and with 3 on the front line who can all score, it will give their defence something to think about. ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK.

Comment #12ye but we’ve got 2 have a DM to cover our weak defence, and an AM to create (ie emre), so to have 4-4-3 we couldnt have those as well as 2 wingers, 3 up front, is, in principle good but how would u solve the stated problem Graeme? or any1 else??

Comment #19There is no doubt in my mind waht the team will be tomorrow. Emre an Dukes and Given are both still out so i reckon it will be this team,
Harper
Beye Taylor Feye Enrique
Milner Butt nzog Duff
Smith Owen
I cant see KK leaving butt and smith out but hopefully, if the gods a shining on us he will swap butt for barton and smith for oba. It seems to me this is the easies decision a manager could ever be faced with. Owen and martins could terrorise the blackburn centre halves but we must pass it through them, not hoof it up to them. Hence barton, who is a far superior passer to butt should be in. And please let enrique be on the left!

Comment #22And i forgot geremi as an option. I though he was really quite bad for us at the start of the season so i wouldnt startt with him. Even though he played well at the ACON the standard in thos games wasnt nearly as good as the PL. But he could be a useful sub.
Butt or Geremi, now theres a tough decision!

Comment #27I wouldnt expect to much on Sat, it will be a new line up which should be better, at the same time Blackburn have been playing the same line up virtually all season and they are superfit and well organised, while I think we will turn the corner and things will improve, it will be asking a lot for everyone to be in tune with each other enough to beat Blackburn.
If everyone stays fit the games after Liverpool could be good for us.

Comment #29Not too worried about team selection this week – Kev will know who’s been doing it in training and will no doubt choose accordingly.
The skipper is absolutely right though – we have to do what we do best tomorrow – get behind the team and roar them to their first win for donkeys…

Comment #34I personally think this will be the team to start tommorow KKs team not mine but:-
Harper
Beye Taylor Faye Enrique
Milner Butt N’Zogbia Duff
Owen Martins
Pretty well balanced with left and right footers
i would start with Barton over Butt and obviously Given and Emre would play but for injury so Harper and Duff will play.
3-0 To the Toon HOWAY THE LADS

Comment #37agreed with the 2nd team craigg .. 1st team not bad although i just think there should be no place in the club never mind starting lineup for a person who has a drink problem, has a violence problem, has a anger problem and seems to not give a shit about his committment to his managers (sams decision to sign him followed by another ‘incident’) would like to see edgar given a chance as i thought he looked a very good player last season and unlike others i didnt rate huntington but thought edgar looked a different class to him

If he was Brazilian or Czech he would have been strung up after the Manure game – what’s wrong with you people?
