HT: Newcastle 0 Blackburn 0 – Magpies Miss Chances

4:01 pm, Saturday, March 1st, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 171 Comments

nufc-crest.png blackburn_crest.png

Newcastle started off this game like a train and pegged Blackburn Rovers back early in the game but they couldn’t make the breakthrough that would be so important.

But Newcastle had good chances through Alan Smith, Damien Duff and Michael Owen and Newcastle should have been ahead at half time, but each of the above layers was guilty of missing gilt edged chances.

After a tremendous start from the Newcastle side, when they were all over Blackburn in the first 10 minutes, but couldn’t get that vital goal which would have given both the team and the crowd a lift.

Michael Owen – missed great chance after 35 minutes

But one of the best chances of the half went to captain Michael Owen. After 35min Barton freed Owen with a nice chip and suddenly the captain was one-on-one with Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Michael rounded the goalkeeper, but the ball got caught under his feet and his shot was just wide of the post. But Owen had a great chance and really should have scored with the opportunity he had.

Newcastle had a lot of the play in the first half and the only mistakes they are making today is not putting the ball in the net from the chances they have carved out against a good Blackburn Rovers side.

But this game is winnable and Keegan has a number of players like Carroll and N’Zogbia who he can bring on. We would expect these to be brought on after around the hour mark, if things are still all square at that time.

We only need a single goal for the 3 points so hopefully the lads will continue and have some luck and get that ball into the back of the net.

It’s certainly a promising first half from the Newcastle team , who are going all out for the win.

  • 2 mikeygd // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:07 PM

its good to hear but bolton did this to blackburn the other day and it ended 4-1 to blackburn i think . fingers crossed

  • 3 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Missing chances always ends up with the other team punishing the missed chances. Let’s hope this will not happen today. Once we score 1 we might get a bit of confidence.

    Are there any subs???

  • 4 Howie // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:11 PM

i think we are being slightly biased. yes we have been on top but we havent dominated them like yee are all sayin

  • 5 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Omg Taylor with his antics again!

  • 6 Howie // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:13 PM

    wat did he do obafan2

  • 7 YongMalaysia // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:14 PM

i wanna watch this match, anyone here know which channel at tvants got live? plzzzz

  • 8 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:14 PM

Commentator said he fluffed his clearance and went over cross bar

  • 9 Carr is shite // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Santa Cruz fires the ball over the top of the crossbar after an awful clearance by Steven Taylor.

  • 10 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:15 PM

ObaFan2 what happened with overrated Taylor. If someone can get Blackburn score it will be him. Oh I wished he was not in the team.

  • 11 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Apparantly comical defending by Taylor but we’re on the up atm.

  • 12 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:16 PM

    Owen, great save by Friedel

  • 13 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Taylor is so bad. I just do not understand why most of the people don’t see that. If he loses us points again today; he must never be in the team anymore. He doesn’t deserve to be in the team over Cacapa. Is KK blind or does he not want to see that Taylor is just an average player. I would even choose Ramage above him.

  • 14 Griff // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:18 PM

omg a sentance i have never heard on sky sports news…

    “nicky butts done brilliant”

just put the ball in! thats 6 great chances now!

  • 15 steve // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Looks like KK has his favourites who are first on the teamsheet i.e. Smith, Butt, Barton Taylor – Brum are thrashing Spurs and closing in on us – we need to win this game

    Come on

  • 16 Todd // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:19 PM

    Yes, Martins for Smith, please

  • 17 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

The defence has looked shaky all match apparantly but it’s understandable considering the amount of goals conceeded in recent games.
We need a run of good performances to improve their confidence, choping and changing doesn’t always help.

  • 18 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

    Birmingham 3 – 0 Tottenham

    What is going on?

  • 19 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Owen has missed another chance. Bring on Martins – we need to win

  • 20 Gilly // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

get butt off and Zog on for a start

  • 21 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

When is Oba going to come on??? We need him to open up the Blackburn defence. Smith is apperantly again not good. Why does that info not surprise me?

  • 22 Vitorbarbosa // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

    Believe in yourself lads!!!!!!

  • 23 GP // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Birmingham 3 up against Spurs. F**king yids.

  • 24 ObaFan2 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Wide again by Owen omg !

  • 25 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:22 PM

steve _ completely agree m8; why Barton, Butt, Taylor and Smith can play every game is a f*cking big mistery. KK is IMO doing exactly the same as SA is doing. He takes wrong desicions and that is why we are in a bad position.

We need to get the 3 points; look at Birmingham; oh my God….

  • 26 steve // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:23 PM

another sitter missed by Owen – get Smith off and Oba on now!!!!!!!!

  • 27 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:23 PM

Seems like Butt and Barton are playing quite well today. We have made enough chances.

  • 28 Carr is shite // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Joey Barton picks up the ball on the halfway line, he plays the ball through to Owen who goes one on one with Friedel but Friedel gets the better of Owen and pushes the ball out for a corner

  • 29 clinton martis // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:24 PM

owen misses again… wtf..get owen, smith and butt off..bring on oba, carrol and zoggy..

we need all 3 points ..

  • 30 GP // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Yeah are you lot not listening to skysports or whatever, Butt and Barton are actually playing well.

  • 31 clinton martis // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:26 PM

    martins …to come on

  • 32 toon4life // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:27 PM

    Martins on for Butt.

  • 35 clinton martis // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:28 PM

nicky butt off martins on….hugeeeee ovation

  • 36 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:28 PM

KK wake up and make a sub man; MARTINS on!! I would love him to score the only goal today. Just to prove that that Smith dude is not worth of being in the lineup…

  • 37 Hadrian // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:28 PM

century need to sack moncur .

  • 38 GP // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Oh wonderful, Butt comes off for Oba and who drops back into midfield? Go on, guess.

  • 39 steve // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

we’re knackered now – Oba on for Butt and Smith moved into midfield!!!!

  • 40 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Oba’s on – great, but why does Smith always have to stay on the pitch? Butt is a better midfielder.

  • 41 Hadrian // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

obafan , smiths done well today , leave it out :)
and andy1 jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts !!! butt’s picked up a knock :)

  • 42 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Finally he is on and if it is true that Butt played a good game than again it is a bad sub. Why oh why is Smith so protected by the staff and the board. Are they afraid of him or what???

  • 43 YongMalaysia // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM

wtf… cant watch the match today!!!

  • 44 clinton martis // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:30 PM

    wre playing 4 -3-3…is sam back…lol

  • 45 Ross // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:30 PM

    butts injured, oba on

  • 46 toon4life // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:31 PM

    need zoggy on now

  • 47 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Hadrian – I just want to say that whenever any other player plays half as bad as Smith he gets off and the next game he is on the bench. Smith can do whatever he wants. If he plays good today, then finally we all should say. How long did it take for him to give us 1 good game??? Some players have never ending credits others don’t have credit at all. Just so unfair.

  • 48 YongMalaysia // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:32 PM

lol, the only way to get butt and smith out from team, injured them…

cant watch it today. sad, just hope we wil win. wish we hav some luck…

  • 49 toon4lyf // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:32 PM

nice one butt injured this could turn our season around

  • 50 Dragoner // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:32 PM

arsenal are throwing their title chance away

  • 51 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Take it back – if Butt’s come off injured then that seems like a positive change.

  • 52 Ross // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:33 PM

    too true dragoner

  • 53 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:35 PM

so i guess this gets rid of the ‘owen needs service’ argument, he is not a good striker

  • 96 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:55 PM

It all started with another bad team selection; okay perhaps we played a descent game and we don’t deserve this but it is a fact. that is reality; if you don’t score you get punished. Watch my post (n°3).

We need to score and then KK puts on a striker who hasn’t scored over 2 seasons, how stupid can you be. KK take your conclusions man; you are not the man to save us.

  • 102 Edd Case // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:57 PM

    We are doomed.

If we can’t finish off teams when we have the chance to do so, what hope have we got?

Our team cannot keep clean sheets and if we cannot score, then it’s simple, we are going to be relegated.

The table doesn’t lie – we are now only THREE points from relegation and we face LIVERPOOL AWAY next – outcome? We will be in the drop zone next weekend.

  • 103 shaunm // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:58 PM

  • 108 scott9 // Mar 1, 2008 at 4:59 PM

liverpool away next we will be in the bottom 3 come 5 o clock next saturday i will seriously be sick if were relagated

  • 109 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:00 PM

    Derby, Fulham and Newcastle/Sunderland/Birmingham will relegate this season. And I start to think it is going to be NUFC. Why? Bad players who can play every game and a very bad manager (the first half of the season, but also the 2nd half). If i make a blance between SA and KK;

We should have stick with SA; he knew a bit of tactics; KK does not know anything; he is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Too bad the board lived in the past in January; this is why we are in this position.

  • 110 SuperShearer // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:00 PM

Well it looks all talk of transfer targets for the summer can be put to bed right now guys. We’re going down, I hate to say it but there is just a feeling of doom about this team and I can’t see us getting out of a scrap with the teams around us. Maybe we can win silverware in the championship.

We deserve relegation players should of been bought in January end of but no excuse was that KK had no timeto buy players yet Spurs bought a shed load of players in 3 days this is not good enough NUFC do not deserve the fans they have.

  • 120 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

    boro 29
    Toon 28
    Sunderland 27
    Birmingham 26
    Wigan 26
    Bolton 25
    Reading 25

I’d say Sunderland at St James is now a relagation decider. I think Reading will get much better now- they are a decent team. Hopefully Boro get pulled right in there as well.

Today was a must win. But if we don’t beat Reading and Sunderland at home – and probably Birmingham away too – we will be relegated

  • 121 scott9 // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

game against birmingham is gonna be a massive one

  • 122 steve // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

on current form we’re the worst team in the premiership by a mile – Brum, Sunderland and Reading know how top fight to get points where the toon think they are to good to go down – a bit like Leeds and Notts Forest of old
I can’t see how we can stay up with this bunch, mostly Sams fault for the players he bought but KK must take some blame for continuing to select Smith, Butt, Taylor, Barton.
At least Roeder would have put some of the kids in, and they might have actually given a f**k

  • 123 Gloryhunter // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

@greek toon. You aint seen nuttin’ yet. Log in tonight when we’re all p*ssed :)

  • 124 Michael // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

I said it before and will say it again. No tactics/strategy just “get up at em”.

Strategy would allow us to build our game around a main man. We need Goals it is no secret. This said the objective is to build a strategy around a striker as this gives us the greatest probability of getting a goal. Either Martins, Owen, Viduka or Carrol. Keegan does not do tactics as such that is why we cannot score.

That is why a team has one striker who scores 15 to 20 goals a season. The top managers do this, Obviously KEegan is not one.

  • 125 Ross // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

greektoon you dont know what you’re talking about claiming people arent fans, we all love the club but frustration sets in when your team cant keep a clean sheet nevermind win. and what does that mean? it means bottom 3.

  • 126 Outlaw // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

This is all Sam ‘shitty’ Alardyce’s fault – Fkn wanka!

  • 127 Chicken // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

    Liverpool (a), Birmingham (a), Fulham (h), Tottenham (a), Reading (h), Porstmouth (a).

    That’s the next 6 games.

3 teams who will all expect to give us a good kicking at their places and 3 teams who are fighting for their lives.

I seriously wouldn’t be surprised if we scraped 4 points max from those games.

Relegation is a VERY serious threat now.

  • 128 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

greek toon – shut the f*ck up man. Reality does never lie and reality is:
    1. that we have bad players wo play every game (Smith, Butt, Barton, Taylor, …)
    2. we have a board that lives in the past (about 10 years)
    3. KK has lost his magic and I think that we should have known that in January.

You can go back to those comments; I was not the one who jumped around when KK was appointed. I was afraid and I was more then correct. So I know that i write down very negative comments, but I’m writing reality stuff here like a lot of others do.

  • 129 Elliott // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

Yeah well said Greek Toon, this lot are a disgrace, maybe if we get relegated we can shed ourselves of this fickle disruptive support.

Greek toon i myself have spend an absolute fortune in the past to support NUFC and i have done for years, now i canot afford to get into the stadium and i think its a blessing in disguise. 11 games without a win is terrible. £32 FOR A TICKET these days,i wouldnt pay 32 pence.

  • 132 yet_another_indian_toon // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:09 PM

  • 134 Elliott // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:10 PM

Michael, you are an idiot, are you sayng Keegan never built his teams around Cole, Ferdinand, Shearer, Anelka etc before?

He’s been here five minutes how can he build a team in that time?

    Please tell me.

  • 135 Gilly // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:11 PM

Have to target the ganes against Birmingham, Fulham, Sunderland and Reading then hope we can get a draw somewhere else.

That should give us the points we need, but the way we are going we can’t buy a goal.

  • 136 lee // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

When i see so many chances created and we still get beaten 1-o i start to wonder if the powers that be have already chiselled newcastle united into their ‘to relegate’ register and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

  • 137 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Outlaw – SA was not the right man, okay but KK defo is not the right man. He is just continuing what SA was doing in a more disastrous way. KK needs to step down now and Dennis Wise should take over from now IMO. How long will we stick with this muppet? We need fighting spirit xombined with tactics to keep clean sheets and to make a goal. KK can not deliver any of those necessary things, that is a big fat fact!!!!!

Wise always was a fighter and he will wake up the players IMO…

Something needs to be changed, thi cannot continue!!!

  • 138 Outlaw // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

I’d rather have Milner upfront than Smith. Kid works more harder.

  • 139 ToonKing // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

oh god……and i thought Freddy and Roeder were bad……………….

  • 140 greek toon // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

    Obafan, I know, I know!
In the 80′s I stood in that gallowgate end watching a crap 2nd division team but you know what., I fell in love with this crazy f’cking club. We are going through a bad time lads. WE MUST STICK TOGETHER.

  • 141 yet_another_indian_toon // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:15 PM

Most of us will stick together, please dont doubt our commitment. We are just pissed sick of the teams performance and expressing displeasure. It doesnt mean that we will give up on NUFC ever!

  • 142 Mad_Magpie // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:15 PM

We didn’t deserve the defeat and we’re certainly in a relegation scrap but spouting off about how s**t we are isn’t going to help.
Major changes will happen in the summer but until then we have to do with what we have and Keegan knows what he’s doing. If we play like we did today for the rest of the season we’ll stay up, we just didn’t have that luck. Brad Friedel was the difference between the two sides.
    Keep the faith.

  • 143 Outlaw // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:16 PM

You’re telling me a man who lept Newcastle outta the second division and got us in the prem is not good enough? You’re telling me a man who nearly won us the league is not good enough? KK can’t do it all in one night. I have faith in him. It’s just up to the players to put some effort in for all the bloody wages they get.

After all, there is only one KK!

  • 144 Michael // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:16 PM

We conceded 5 goals against Man United last week, Fulham conceded three.

Keegan cannot Motivate, does not know tactics. If we still Had Big Sam, we would not be this close to the relegation Zone. I now know this as a fact. Keegan is useless. I have been reserved in my comments in the past so as not to offend YOUR Messiah.

He was brought in to turn our football from water to Wine but all he has done is turn it to piss. 10 games to go, get him the hell out and bring in someone serious, anyone would be better I oath.

Keegan is probably going to say he is proud of the players and “Smithie” ran his socks off, We had a clear penalty shout and the decisions did not go our way.

F*** him, go back into retirement.

  • 145 Gilly // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:17 PM

Greek Toon, we have all been there mate, but it can’t stop you from saying what you think is wrong… matter how hair brained some of the points are

  • 146 stantos // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:17 PM

I feel physically sick, I tell you it’s written, we stuff em lose 1 nil and within 30 seconds Reading go 1 up, I’m beginning to think this is some sort of sick joke.

I said it at the time Big sam had to be given time, yes it wasn’t attractive but I’ll tell you something, we wouldn’t be in this f###### mess. We deserve to go down, look at the stats were gone. Can you see us beating reading, scum and the blues away cos I can’t not with the run were on. Just wait till weve let 6 in at anfield this time next week………….. someone pass me the pills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 147 Yorkie Dave // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Freddy Shepherd, Sam Allardyce, Douglas Hall will all be laughing tonight and it makes me sick! We can not give up we must back them till it is in black and white that we will play championship football next season. I didnt see the game but would like to see the stats. but for Fook sake get oba on from the start for rest of season this guy has bite has fight has the muscle we need and that very special eye for an impossible goal that we need sooooo very much right now. i love our club with all my heart and its killing me to see us in this plight.
We need to give the kids a chance next weekend to show the “BIG” players what it means to the club to stay up they will fight and push hard for the club. There can be no long term future if we are relegated. we must play simple football, make our own luck. its a case of GROW SOME BALLS guys there shud be no days off until we are safe!!!!

  • 148 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:21 PM

I admire KK for his work IN THE PAST. Really when I watch youtube and I se movies of NUFC from those days, what a team and a manager we had. DEFO agree with you there. But he has lost it I’m afraid that KK made the worst decision by coming back to NUFC. People expected too much (me too), but he just cannot deliver it anymore.

  • 149 jeff // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Gutted totally gutted…………..With minutes to go why was derbyshire allowed to be one on one with our goalkeeper, surely at that time in the game we shouldve seen the game out without conceding…Its a disgrace…yes we created alot of chances but to lose like that is unprofessional…Players obviously dying to get the win and not doing their jobs for the 90 minutes….Im gutted and we are going down….face facts…not scoring in a game like that at home is shocking…Come next week after Liverpool game we could be in bottom 3..I still cant get my head round how he was one on one in last minute f**k sake

  • 150 greek toon // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:21 PM

I feel so bad. But please don’t start about how Allardyce would have turned things around. He started all this in the first place.

  • 151 Outlaw // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:22 PM

Dave, if only you could say that to KK’s face then maybe things would change. I for one I’m depressed now after today. The future isn’t looking bright atm

  • 152 subz // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:22 PM

GUTTED!!!! We apparently battered them today! No luck. I don’t agree that today was a must win, we all knew Blackburn are on form, but we should have won. The games against the Scum, Reading, Wigan and Brum are all MASSIVE MUST WIN GAMES NOW.

  • 153 stantos // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:23 PM

Toon Toon Toon Toon Toon Toon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUFC forever !!!!!!! Right…. I’m off to pray, i suggest you all do the same.

  • 154 steve // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:26 PM

Obafan – Dennis Wise in charge – are you mad, he’s worse than sh!te and he’d still have the same players.
The problem is that we didn’t buy anyone in Jan and now we’re playing the price for Sams sh!t buys last summer
I heard Sam gave Smith a contract that guaranteed him 38 games a season and we can’t get out of it – apparantly Sam thought we would make Europe and he wouldn’t have to use Smith in every game

  • 155 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:27 PM

Michael – I would love to copy your message (n° 134) cause you are spot on. KK has completely lost it and I don’t want to listen to his comments tonight at MOTD. Oh no we will be the laughing side of the vening once again.

SA (who I wanted out) would have got us 5 or 6 points out of the games which KK was the manger. Count them and we would have been in a far better position in the table. I’m really sad today. WE NEED SOMETHING TO CHANGE BY NEXT WEEK!

  • 156 Michael // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:29 PM

Elliot, and to all keegan Anal Kissers. You tell me what has Keegan done?????? just waht has this muppet Done, I hear of this Attacking football, He was there at the right time that was all, conveniently there. He has won nothing, did so poorly with England and walked before being Sacked, Mediocre at man City where HE said “This is the best club Squad he had ever assembled” but what did he do there. Mediocre, in fact poor manager. He does not do tactics, have you ever wondered just what he does on the touch line.

He does not do tactics so he is usless on match day that is why We cannot change a game we play consistently throughout a game consistently poor. Remember with Sam, we could go a goal down but we could come back we did so against Derby to mention one game.

Keegan there is a frequency and consistency of the same Drab.

Keegan has won nothing and will win nothing. this is a game of tactics, if he is there to motivate we may as well get Anthony Robbins the world renowned motivational thinker. He knows nothing like Keegan about tactics.

  • 157 stantos // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:29 PM

The problem goes way backbefore Big Sam. He came in saying he needed 5 years and wasn’t given it. I agree that things were horrible under Sam but worse than this????? I’ll tell you something, we may have lost against Utd with Sam but concede 6 and 5, 4 at Villa? No way !!! Not important until you think what if it comes to GD regarding staying up.

  • 158 toon4lyf // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:29 PM

i dont think we will get relagated emre back for us next week
i think we will win 3-2 emre scorin da winner

  • 159 toon1978 // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:30 PM

  • 160 Macca // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Deserved better, but you know that’s what happens when you don’t take your chances.
Very sloppy to concede that late, at this rate Sunderland will hop us.
The defense was caught on the hop, went one on one with Harper, and now I think that we’re going to be looking back thinking if Owen had scored, if Duff hadn’t missed, if it was Given was there for the one on one (no keeper much better then one on ones then him..but in fairness Harper couldn’t do anything about it, nor should he had to) if this happened, if that happened. Keegan needs to get players, to buy players in the summer but by then it could be well too late.
I still don’t think we’ll be relegated, I don’t think Reading or Sunderland will be either. But we really can’t afford any more mistakes. If Keegan like some are suggesting goes, leaves, we will be the laughing stock of the Premiership and no one will want to take the job.
Now is the time for the lads to really stand up and fight because at the moment we are four points off the relegation zone. 4 points from disaster and that’s the reality of it.

  • 161 Outlaw // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:33 PM

Notice how all of Sam’s players have been really shite. I guess they never got to gel in with the rest of the team. Thanx alot u wnka’s

  • 162 stantos // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:33 PM

Toon4lyf…. your in dream world mate. We are f##### now go play football manger

  • 163 t-g-w // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:35 PM

Michael what a load of rubbish saying that we’re a worse team than Fulham cos they conceded less goals than us against Man U. They beat Arsenal by 4 goals the week before they played us so does that make Fulham better than Arsenal? Of couse not. Muppet.

And if January wasn’t a time to panic buy then when is?

  • 164 briss // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:40 PM

ok this lose was not deserved that’s for sure. The team have some pivotal games coming and we have to keep the support high or else we will most def will be trying to win silverware in the championship. The last thing we can do is change our manager again! Give him a bloody chance their I’d going to be games that you should win and you get unlucky.

  • 165 Kevin Lawson // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:42 PM

We have no one to blame but ourselves and anyone that is calling KK head already should hang there head in shame.

The fact is we have decent enough players, including smith and butt. It’s just that confidence is so very low at the moment. The club keeps shooting itself in the foot by sacking managers before they have really had a chance to change things. Some of the fans that post here are no better.

We battered Blackburn today (who won 4-1 last week btw) and we were unlucky in the extreme. MO had the chances that he would normally eat for breakfast and squandered them.

I do agree there is a chance we could go down, but i don’t agree that sacking Keegan is the answer. He cares about this club and TBH i don’t think that any other manager would be able to do that much better with the same players.

We just need that bit of luck and for the F*CKING players to show the quality that we ll know they have got and we will do ok.

I don’t want to be relegated, but i’m starting to think it might serve as a good reality check to all those fans who think that we are automatic top 7.

Maybe liverpool away will get us a surprise result, theres gonna be no pressure now cos there shouldn’t be one single fan that expects a win.

Here’s hoping COME ON THE TOON!!!

  • 166 Michael // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:45 PM

I was devastated when the Board brought Keegan back, purely because I know this game needs tactics. Keegan is not better than a pub pundit.

Were there seriously no other managers we could not entice when we sacked Big Sam? A Baboon would be better than this Jester.

The reason nothing is changes is because there are no tactics, he does not even change formation during a game. He goes on about Motivation, I think motivation or lack of motivation is overstated in the league. Every club wants to stay in the premier league, surely that is motivation enough. We do not need motivation we need competence, tactics.

Because he does not do tactics, he puts the players on the pitch after having “Motivated” them then what ever happens, happens right?

Keegan has not managed since 2004 , watched a game since 2005. Are our results not a testament to this fact.

  • 167 Andy1 // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:47 PM

Macca – I think we are only 3 points off relegation actually. And I think Sunderland will be relegated if we beat them at St James’. That will be such an importnant match because after that our fixtures are West Ham (a), Chelsea (h) and Everton away on the last day.

  • 168 Obafan // Mar 1, 2008 at 5:52 PM

Things need to change and I think one of the most concerning things are the decisions made for the lineup.

Someone mentionned Emre will be back, very good but he never gets a chance so if inkjured or not he is not supported by the manager. Resulting in very dificult to play good for the little Turk.

  • 169 Macca // Mar 1, 2008 at 6:02 PM

Andy1, sorry, you’re right, 3 points off relegation zone, put it down to bad maths or wishful thinking.
No I don’t agree I don’t think that Sunderland will go down, no matter the result at St James, which I think will be a draw or a 1-0 game.
    I don’t know why.
I said from the start that Arsenal would die out and they are.
I said that Man U would fire on and they are. Just a gut feeling.
I think that Reading and Sunderland will stay up. They’ve a lot of character in their team and in their managers. They’ve a big fight in them and I think that today was a turning point in their season, as so many matches were, like with Arsenal today.
I think it was a turning point in ours as well. Now it’s just wait and see to see if we’ve the character in our players to stay up.
I didn’t really agree with Keegan coming, he’s a great history with the club but that’s in the past. It was never going to easy for him. He didn’t have the time to bring in players and I think he overestimated the ones he has now.
Because the way I’m looking at it I don’t know if I honestly can say if a single player would stay if we went down, with the exception of Given and Harper, I don’t think anyone else on the team has the fight or the stomach for this relegation battle.

  • 170 Yorkie Dave // Mar 1, 2008 at 6:04 PM

toon4lyf no way this is a game imo that we cannot win we are not good enough. a team that lacks this much confidence will not beat a liverpool side that are chasing for CL. my personal team for next week has to include edgar, carrol, lua lua, tozer, kadar to name a few give these lads a chance with harper, beye, faye, milner, duff, martins, owen, emre,
DM-Emre (could spray the ball about and tackle)
    AM-Duff (run off the strikers)
    LM-Lua Lua
ST-Martins (out and out striker to shoot from anywhere, even shoot from goal kicks hehe)
ST-Carrol (drop abit deep to nod on)

Subs – Forster, Owen, Kadar, Smith, Butt.
if by anychance we get in front and looking ok bring Carrol off for Butt and play martins up alone and have 5 in midfield as one option to close out the game.

No one should of expected keegan to turn around these ULTRA LOW confidence players. i dont expect a result next week apart from a loss. We will be pulled further down next week but the games against Fulham, Sunderland (makcam f**kers), Birmingham, Reading are the key games and need from the others a few good performances.

    a-liverpool 0pts
    a-birmingham 3pts
    h-fulham 3pts
    a-tottenham 1pt
    h-reading 3 pts
    a-portsmouth 0pts
    h-sunderland 3pts
    a-west ham 1pt
    h-chelsea 0pt
    a-everton 0pt

thats best case scenario and would give us 14 points from our remaining games but i think that is being optimistic. birmingham more like 1 point, spurs 0, reading 1pt and west ham 0pt that would give us 8 pts on what we have and i think that could still be a problem!!! i think 36 points for our season is the least we can expect but anyworse and we are definately gone.

Argghhh lost again… lost & lost again… s***! are we really damned or what? We’re really out of luck but am still hope we’re lucky enough to win against Sunderland,Reading,Sunderland & stay up the league. But IF relegated oh no, whatever happens still proud to support NUFC.
