Steven Taylor Still Not Signed New Contract

12:16 pm, Saturday, March 1st, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

The England Under-21 skipper has still not signed his new contract at the club, after there was a disagreement on it in early September between th club and his father Alf Taylor.

Steven Taylor - still hasn’t signed a new contract

Surprisingly there seems to have been no more progress on the deal, but maybe the club is just leaving it until the summer, since there are more important things to do before then – like putting some league points on the board.    :(

Kevin Keegan admitted yesterday that the club’s dip in form has taken its toll on most of his players, and that includes 22-year-old local boy Steven Taylor.

Keegan said on Friday:

“Steven Taylor is a young player, and he’s totally committed, but again he’s feeling the effects of not winning football matches.”

Taylor has apparently put his contract talks back until the summer but Keegan knows that Steven will give him 100% in every single game – about that there is absolutely no doubt.

But we’d still be much happier if we had Steven nailed down at the club for the next 5 years. While he’ still learning the ropes at the club, he looks to be one of our great players of the future, and since he’s also a local lad who was a ball boy at the club, he’s an important figure in Newcastle’s future.

We trust the club have talked to Steven and his father Alf, who acts as Steven’s agent, and that a good deal for both parties will be struck in the summer, and the earlier in the summer the better.

What do you think?     Comments very welcome.

wish S.Taylor wil renew his contrat, if not, just sell him with high value before he become free agent.

when were safe, thats when to sit down and talk contracts, and never be held to ransom

If he wants to leave then let him. Performances from him and the rest of players has been crap to say the least so to ask for mega bucks for substandard football is rediculous. They should be paid on performance and I bet they will soon improve

not as good as he thinks he is… someone has said this before but it bears repeating. if his name was titus we’d be calling for his head.

Sell him now; he is overrated and is not worth to play in our defence. I can’t stand his attitude; week in week out he makes childish maistakes and what does he do then? Laughing like a f*cking idiot. CACAPA and FAYE should walways start over this fool. Waste of space and time!!! I hope the new Senegalese defender is worth keeping, cause we can use everyone at the moment, except Taylor. I really hope he does not play today or things really look not good. McCartney will make him look like a fool (not hard to do so).

I find it amazing that so many people are turning on our one home grown talent. Talyor is a future full England international and clearly our best defender. To let him leave would be idiotic.
If we let him go I wouldn’t be suprised if he ended up at Liverpool or Man U and ended up being a great player for them. We don’t have many players of his calibre in our squad and if we let them go then its a step backwards

He should earn a new contract by ensuring we don’t concede goals – that’s his job, and when it happens, he should get paid appropriately.

Greg P do you really believe what you are saying??? He gets all the support over the other lads cause he is a Geordie. I just think that really is unfair. If someone, like Cacapa makes a mistake, people enlarge that mistake so badly that he looks like a bad player. Cacapa is one of the best we have, but just does not find his level, because he gets that much criticised. Taylor can make all mistakes he wants. Why? People say Taylor made not a mistake, no it was the one next to Taylor. Well I say stop this crap and be honnest for all the players; not by looking at their hometown, but by their play during the games. It really frustrates me that things are not the same for all the players.

this young man needs a world class defender along side him otherwise he looks crap.just like terry would.alongside woodgate he would have prospered.it doesn’t matter how good defenders are if you dont have the right team shape ,balance and tactics, the team leaks goals and confidence lost.the toon need a brave decision making by keegan in the middle.either drop butt for faye or smith in dm.and drop barton for zog or lua lua in am.

Cacapa struggles with the pace of the premiership despite obvious quality, and is never going to be up to speed. Taylor lacks concentration sometimes, but is also so often the man to dig us out of trouble. I agree he needs to earn his contract, but I honestly believe that if we play Beye, Enrique, Faye and Tayls then we have a team which can stop conceding. If then the mistakes keep flowing fine, but my opinion is that he spends most of his time having to cover for others.
Its not because he’s from Newcastle, because if that was the case I support Ameobi and Carrol who are never going to cut it and therefore should be shipped out asap.

Carroll, not going to make it? Haha, well we’ll see won’t we.

on his current form would anyone else sign him??

  • 14 m. // Mar 1, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Ausgeordie – maybe Oxford United, Greenock Morton or Havant & Waterlooville

  • 15 Nev // Mar 1, 2008 at 2:54 PM

tbh … with the state of us atm .. who would want to sign a new contract ?
martins and taylor sign long term lucrative deals and we then end up in championship (possibility)
id wait till end of the season to wether we safe when we get big name players like oba and tayls … even owen could sign a new contract … but i doubt that

  • 17 CJ // Mar 2, 2008 at 4:25 AM
