Newcastle Have Just One Player In Premier Top 100

It must be the form of our players over the last 11 league games but Newcastle United have just one player in the Premier league’s Top 100 according to the Actim Index – and he’s at number 97.

james-milner-85858.jpg

James Milner – just makes Top 100 at number 97

At various times during this season we’ve had as many as 6 of our players in the top 100 but it shows the lack of form when out only player now in the Actim Top 100 players is James Milner at number 97 with 232 points. So he just makes it.

As means of a comparison Manchester United and Arsenal have 9 payers in the list, Chelsea have 8 and 4th placed Everton have 11 players in the top 100.

Here an explanation of the Actim Index followed by various lists of top players so far this season.

Actim Stats are a collection of team, player and match statistics.

They are derived from all the actions that take place during a match, including goals, shots on target, corners, fouls, offsides, passes, tackles, blocks and clearances. The raw data can be used to generate a wide range of tables and statistics such as player profiles, team and player head-to-heads and form guides.

PA Sport gathers match data for every Barclays English Premier League, Coca-Cola Championship and Scottish Premier League game.

The data is gathered by two methods – real-time match analysis and the study of video footage. The real-time analysis is conducted by ex-professional footballers that report on action at the grounds as it happens. Further, more detailed analysis is obtained by studying videos of the matches.

So it shows just how poorly individually our lads have been playing these last couple of months.

Here is the full 100 top Premier Players according to the Actim Index.

Benjani Mwaruwari 422 9 Man City
Fernando Torres 412 10 Liverpool

It’s not surprising that Brad Briedel is 4th amongst goalkeepers, given his match winning performance against Newcastle yesterday.

If we can get say 10 players into that top 100 next season, we should be in the top 6. That’s one way of measuring our progress, since the top players in the league seem to be those with the most points.

So the Actim index must be measuring something right.

The defense still seemed shaky to me. What about Taylor & Cacapa in the middle with Faye as DM to protect them? Dropping Butt, of course…

I actually think Cacapa’s been better than Taylor, though he’s a little slow.

Ive been going to matches for 15 years mate i’ll bet i know plenty more about football in general than you and certainly more about our players and club, you annoying piece of southern shit

Taylor has cost us and saved us this season and so has capapa more in most opinions but Taylor over the course of the last 2 or 3 years taylor has been easily our best defender and only short minded wankers like you dont appreciate him

I would love you to say some of your Fish bowl comments, or your usual smart arse remarks about KK or the Taylor and Milner should be dropped tripe that you type on here in the City centre or most of the north east you would be picking up your teeth off the floor you obnoxious fickle little bastard just go and pretend to support arsenal or Chelsea because we dont need you.

P.S. You never answered one question when did you start to support newcastle during King Kevs or Sir Bobbys time as manager Because you can bet your bottom dollar it werent when Ardiles, Dalglish, Gullit or Souness were over us because if so you would never spout about foreign managers for our club.

I just cant be bothered to waste my time sticking up for my club against pricks like you, Black Caesar, Tom_Toon and Michael i just wonder how loud you would shout your opinions in SJP no very i suppose.

I totally agree with Dragoner, Cacapa is a far better player than Taylor at the moment. Cacapa has had a decent start on his Newcastle career, apart from the infamous Pompey-match he’s been playing quite well. Taylor is a local lad and all, but now we’ve got to focus on what’s best for the team, we are in trouble.

Drop Taylor, Butt and Smith, and we’ll be far better off. Martins has to play, he’s our best striker.

Not bad for a lad who can’t cross, eh?

I still reckon that if young Jimmy had been looked after properly at a decent club with a decent manager he’d be a hell of a lot closer to the England squad than he is now.

I think we should count ourselves extremely lucky to have him at NUFC. But I suppose we will still keep hearing from the handful of special ones on here about how he isn’t good enough.

He can cross well with either foot, shoot with either foot, pick a pass, dribble and keep the ball to alleiviate the pressure and has great stamina and can run really fast (Despite having no pace apparently)

It’s people on here that dont give him credit for it
some of the comments on here about Milner drive me mad he has been easily our best player for the last two seasons and was Villas best player the season before that just look at his assists and goal tally compared to Duff, Barton, N’Zogbia, butt, Geremi this season or or any of last seasons midfielders he was top then and he is top now.

I don’t think it’s that Jimmy can’t cross, it’s just he isn’t as consistent with his balls in as he should be. If he can sort that out, he might just get his chance for England.

But with England there are already two very good young right wingers in Bentley and Lennon. While I think Lennon is a bit one dimensional at the minute, the more games he plays the more he’ll learn and eventually he’ll be able to use more than raw pace to get past players. I think Jimmy would have a better chance at England on the left, since only Downing and I suppose Joe Cole (who is better as an attacking midfielder or playing off a striker imo) are really fighting for that spot.

I love Oba martins, Emre, Given, Faye, Beye, Enrique, N’Zogbia

And I used to like or love Solano, Sibierski, Asprilla, Ginola, Albert, Srnicek, Hislop, Robert, Bernard and even Acuna but yes i believe teams in this country should have a English or british base as its an english football club

I dont have anything against foreign players who help or try for my club and I also admire foreign managers like Wenger, Mourinho, Rijkaard, Hitzfeld, Pellegrini, Lippi, etc.

Just because i dont rate deschamps i hate foreigners apparently.

Ive just read Taylor is making noises about a new contract and the fact one hasnt been offered yet..Is this really the time to be talking about contracts when the team is fighting relegation…I think the club should fine him and if he fooks off then so be it….He isnt a great player and makes a hell of a lot of mistakes…He keeps playing for the crowd to sing his name..He needs to improve big time…..I think this season he has listen to his own press for too much and is going the same way Jenas Dyer and all those others went …Button it Taylor and get us out of this mess that you have helped get us into

My point to dragoner is that i dont have anything against foreign players if they are good for newcastle utd thats all which the second team weren’t

If i was totally pro english Dragoner then my prem team would be:-

    Harper
    Barton Woodgate Venison Beresford
    Dyer Lee Beardsley Sellars
    Ferdinand Shearer

Subs: Watson, Taylor, Clark, Milner, Cole.

The only english keeper harper aside that played for us in the premiership as Hislop eventually played for T&T i can think of was Mike hooper so i’d take my chances with Pedro in nets again!!!

    Is everyone happy now

As i said before Beardsley was primarily a deep lying striker who could play as an attacking centre Mid role so to balance that you would have to have a holding player like Batty (Even though Lee played that role in his later years at the toon) so i put speed in there as he was a naturally left footed Central midfielder who was a great foil for Rob Lee.

I did rate Beardsley more than everyone except Shearer in the above team

CRAIGG – do you really believe what you write here?

Taylor or Cacapa; every time I would pick Cacapa; 5 years captain of Lyon (most succesfull team in France for 10 years; even great Champions League campaings). So that would not have been lcuk; he was always in the top of their team. Don’t start that French League is average, it is not that good as EPL, but it is a strong league.
Taylor makes mistake after mistake; if Cacapa made the same mistakes he would not even make the bench anymore. Taylor is overrated and I rather see him on the bench than on the pitch. Why is he so protected. We need experience at the center of our back now. So drop Taylor and play with Beye – Cacapa – Faye – Enrique in the back.

Milner can’t kick 5 good crosses in ne game. I really do not understand the making of that top 100. How on Earth can Milner be the best player from our team. I wonder in which position Beye is? Milner another overrated player. Let Duff play on the right and N’Zogbia on the left.

I also read your comments of the team 10 years ago, with my favourite Albert in it. That was a great team under a great manager. But this is the biggest mistake the board could make; going back to the past. KK, really lots of respect for the man, can not do it anymore. He shows lots of spirit by willing to take the club in this mess situation, but he lost his magic IMO. The board should have already had a their man before they sacked SA. If they had their man lined-up we could have been active in the January window to attract good players who could make the team better. And then we would not be in this situation I’m quite sure about that!!!
