Ashley Desperate to Keep Keegan at Newcastle

Despite newspaper reports to the contrary, Mike Ashley continues to have complete faith in Kevin Keegan, and is desperate to keep him at the Tyne-side club.

Mike Ashley – desperate to keep Kevin at Newcastle United

A source close to Mike Ashley told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Mike has every confidence in Kevin Keegan.”

“Mike is desperate to keep Kevin as his manager, and if United do stay in the Premier League, he will provide the funds for him to buy new players in the close season and give the club a fresh start.”

That’s not too surprising to hear because the game on Saturday was reminiscent of the old days when Newcastle used to win by 3-4 goals. We could have done that on Saturday as we continued to attack Blackburn for the full 90 minutes and nobody can deny it was a great performance from the boys.

The confidence of the players looked good, and a goal would have given them another push and surely if we had got one we would have ended up with 3 or 4.

But as we all know, it wasn’t to be, and we couldn’t take any of the 8 good chances we had. To cap it all off Blackburn scored a breakaway goal through young Matt Derbyshire, whose wife had given birth to twins earlier in the week. Well at least somebody was happy after the game. 😀
But the signs are there, and if we can play like that now – heaven knows we should be so much better next season, once the players understand better the way Kevin wants to play.

We just have to keep the faith and we’ll be OK – and not take too much notice of the popular press – who will be hoping we get relegated and will be trying to stir things up at the club – as usual.

I hope he gets the time he deserves and hopefully wins something for us. Then Black Ceasar will be eating a lot of humble pie

Dont get me wrong, i hate the fact we havent won a game, but we have to give him the time to build his team!

This is fat sams team and is is poor at the minute, but beating on KK is not the answer, we all need to stick by him and stop wingeing on about how shit some idiots think he is.

the performance on satrday shows that we are back on track, we were just the unluckiest mofo’s around not 2 win 10-0! but lets hope we can take that inspired performance to anfield at the weekend, n put the chances away. liverpool are rather inconsistant 2 remember, was it barnsley that put the out the cup the other week? i have hope. if we beat birmingham, fulham and the like, which we easily can, we be in the mid-40’s point wise and totally fine…

Like everyone I was gutted by the result, but very, very excited by the style of play. We’re not going down – we’re surviving. And next season with some crucial new players in for some of the non-performers, we should see some results. Until then, as far as I’m concerned, all we’re seeing is the depth of damage that has been done by the board of the last 10 years and by BSA more recently.

“Entertainers Pt 2”? Maybe. With Ashley’s attitude so attuned to KK’s, I think it’s possible.

If we don’t play Smith and don’t play Barton…we would have won.
Keegan is a hero of mine, but aslong as he persists in playing these two complete and utter useless players i’m worried about our future! I really have no idea why he’s doing such a thing, but he needs to stop it and quick…PLAY CARROL!

    Keep the Faith

Have faith in the team KK picks as that team and players on Saturday played alot better and can continue to improve.

ronaldeano, I understand you’re annoyed at comments and insults by some on here as it’s out of order tbh. It’s easy to be offensive from your pc, just try and ignore those as I try to do 🙂

I have faith in KK. I have none in Butt, Barton (Dick?), or Smith. Time for Carroll to come in and play some role. Obvious we need his height. Even Ameobi’s. Why Martins and Nzogbia on the bench? I really believe KK’s got the Toon deep down in his heart and will not let us down. But please Kevin – break with the has beens!

I gather from various reports that KK was a bit stuck for choice with the way player fitness turned out – hence ‘Stubbie’ Barton getting 90 minutes. Personally I’d have had Carroll on instead of Smith and put Zoggas in for Barton, but I think Kev had his reasons, and not least because he honestly believes he can get those two playing the way we’ve all seen they can.

Let’s hope he’s right about these guys. He has been in the past – and I thought Smith looked a lot better than recently (not saying much) so it’s promising. Let’s face it – if you can get him back to his best form, that’s quite a player to have.

C’mon KK – keep doing yer thing. Looking better by the game. All you need are some barn doors and 5-pace markers at the training ground and we’ll be banging in 5 a game again…

Everyone on this blog hope we stay up but the doom merchants need to take a step back and give kevin a chance. We are in good hands with Ashley and co I think but and while Kevin wasn’t my first choice we are stuck with him so back him and the team. Next season if we are still shit then have your say but for now back kevin and the boys 100%. Thats what the toon army became famous for

I’m not sure Keegan coming out and saying he couldn’t guarantee Newcastle will stay up was the cleverest thing to say. He’s just basically told the rest of the league he has no faith in the squad he inherited and they might go down. You would never hear such negative comments from top managers like Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Riijkaard etc. It’s great being honest to keep the fans onside but these comments were ill-advised at best.

And while we’re on our soapboxes:

    “I hate Nicky Butt”

.. and all the others with such monikers: how the hell can you call yourself a supporter going with a name like that?? I don’t care how much you’ve got against a particular player, you either support the Toon or you don’t.

If the first thing that comes into your mind is always who to get rid of, I suggest you become a Liberal candidate and give up on the footie altogether, ‘cos you ain’t helping here.

i mainly jus read the blogs without commenting (prob like the other 51,980 people).
i think people like black caesar are just sad morons really.
he probobly knows no different than a big stadium and a premier league team (if he ever goes at all).
some of my greatest memories are rammed away ends (with keegan playing) at oldham away, mirandinas (excuse spelling) equaliser at old trafford (after getting in the home end and jumping over the fence)”who’s a waste of money”breaking down on a freezing wed night at blackpool away, outside a crumbling bloomfield road,
missing me lift after losing at citys main rd.
stoke away at the victoria ground,5-0 united at home…keegans team etc etc
the list is endless…its called football!
how sad must life be to be a bandwagon jumping new breed of socca fan ,just to think winnings all and everything? scream at the manager after losing a few games (inc arsenal away twice).
    relegation…so what?
we’ll win the championship and go to grounds with soul instead of corporate ‘bowls’.
stay up,great! kk will sort things in summer.
chill out and get a life,

It’s not tbh. I supported SA even though I disagreed with his team selections and the dismal style he seemed to favour. I was not cheering when he got sacked, though it was an interesting time when we were all wonder who the hell would get the job next. I was hopeful when KK was appointed but I didn’t know much about him at all. The jury’s still out for me. I want him to succeed as much for NUFC as for hm because I like the way he comes off in interviews. Very different to SA. Seems a right decent bloke and I like for those types to succeed. I’ll support the side no matter what, and I’ll be gutted if we go down because my chances to see the side play will be very few and far between indeed. So here’s to staying up and improving next season.

i will try and support anyone who takes charge of the team. we have so many positives to take from the blackburn game, we ruled for 89 minutes. if kk can get us playing like that every week we should be ok… i mean its a fair argument to say if that was our best performance, we still lost… but bburn are a good side with a gk that kept them in it…. if we can play that way against the likes of fulham and reading at home and especially the mackems, i think we will be too much for them…
im not having a go at kk now, but does anyone think ashley would mainly love keegan to stay because he doesnt want to seem fickel or to make us look ridiculas again?
