Liverpool Take West Ham Apart 4-0

Liverpool had one of the best displays in the league last night, when they easily beat West United 4-0 with a second successive hat trick from their brilliant Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

Fernando Torres – scored 6 goals in last 2 games

The team Liverpool played last night was as follows:

Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher, Alvaro Arbeloa, Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard, John Arne Riise, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt, Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel
Substitutes: Peter Crouch, Sami Hyypia, Jermaine Pennant, Charles Itandje, Yossi Benayoun

The good news is that Liverpool have an important second leg tie against Inter Milan next week in the European Champions League, so they are likely to rest some of their top players, hopefully including captain Steven Gerrard and Torres. We hope so in any case.

Liverpool are leading the tie 2-0 with two late goals in the first leg at Anfield last week. However, they can expect a torrid time at th San Siro next week with Milan AC having already been eliminated by a tremendous Arsenal display on Tuesday night.

Two late goals from Fabregas ( a 35 yard shot) and Adebayor, after brillaint work from Theo Walcott, were enough to take the Londoners through to the last eight, when the game seemed to be heading for extra time.

With the win last night Liverpool moved above rivals Everton into 4th position as this was their game in hand. They have 53 points from their 28 games which is level with Everton, but they have a superior goal difference.

Liverpool and Fernando Torres in particular were on fire last night and the fabulous Torres became only the 4th player in Liverpool history to score two successive hat tricks.

It’s an extremely important game for Newcastle on Saturday. and it should be a great game to watch as both teams will be attacking from the kick off.

We are still hopeful of getting something out of the game, but our defense will have to be at their very best to achieve that.

What do you think?

As much as i love our club to make a sensation at Anfield but Liverpool is too strong for us.
We could have a chance if Barton and Emre could play but now with Smith,Butt in our midfield,we have no chance.
    I hope i’m wrong.

Looks like Keegan is going to be getting even more flak after this match. I hate admitting it but I just can’t see us beating Liverpool. They always seem to play well against us.

    But you never know.

A lot depends upon KK’s team selection. I’d like to see Carroll and Lua Lua given a run out. The impetuousness of youth is exactly what we’ll need against the reds.

Benitez always changes his side with a CL game in mind, even though he’s hinted that his rotation policy is over for this season, I still think he will rest a few players for Saturday, so you never know. Just a point that I read somewhere online that some Liverpool fans want to make sure Owen gets a decent reception this time, unlike last time when he was booed. Can’t see it myself but was surprised he didn’t get a better reception at Anfield last time.

if they play that team against us it will be very tough, very.

i think even though i dont like players like butt and smith but they should play in this one for sure, this would be my team

    beye cacaya faye enrique
    milner nzogbia butt duff
    martins owen

bit of speed and we might just unlock them as long as all players play together with confidence and effort

didnt torres say that we wanted to buy him when we were going after owen from madrid. how i wish we could go back time and go after the better player. its not rocket science.

The Pool are in a battle with Everton for 4th at the moment. Rafa won’t take any chances.

I hate to say this, but we’re boned already.

    I do like surprises though.

I think we’ll probably get beaten, but you just never know. I also think we could see another steady improvement in performance, and one or two goals in our favour too.

What worries me is that people will read too much into it. We shouldn’t beat ourselves up if we lose this – but we should look for a performance good enough to beat Birmingham the week after.

    My team:
    Beye – Taylor/Cacapa – Faye – Enrique
    Milner – Zog – Butt – Duff
    Owen – Carroll

(Not convinced about Taylor or Cacapa at the mo – KK should pick whoever’s looking sharper on the training ground)

Then put Lua Lua on for whichever of the 3 attacking midfielders is performing least convincingly, and Martins for whichever striker their defence seems to have pinned down best.

Give ’em some seriously quick, clever buggers to deal with!

    I’m with Southside Jordy

Who cares what team we put out just as long as one can net a fookin ball and get us some points!

LFC have been pretty schitzo this season. Anything’s possible. I don’t expect we’ll get anything, but if we do I’ll be chuffed to bits.

    Howay the Toon!!
