Kevin Keegan was far from happy with the performance of his side at Liverpool today.
Kevin Keegan – disappointed with the courage of his players
As we have been saying since the game ended, most of our players didn’t show enough courage, heart or guts – whatever word you want to use.
But because of their lack of guts Newcastle United are getting into a dire, dangerous and perilous position in the league. Maybe the players don’t care too much as they continue to receive their obscenely high wages – hardly ever earned by the way.
But Newcastle fans do – and it’s just not good enough!
We can no longer play those players who give up in a game. That will surely get us relegated. Keegan was far from happy with his side’s display. We’re actually pleased to hear that because we are fuming at some of the pathetic displays of players wearing the famous black and white stripes today.
Keegan said after the game:
“It was disappointing and nowhere near good enough,” “We have gone behind to an unfortunate goal when Enrique has tried to clear.â€
“That was the killer goal and typical of our bad luck.†“But the second goal was a poor one to concede and going in 2-0 at half-time is different.â€
“We didn’t show enough courage and self-belief when we had the ball.â€
“When you come to Liverpool you also have to compete when you don’t have the ball and earn their respect, but we didn’t do that.â€
“We’ve got players who can compete but today we didn’t.”
The truth is that we cannot afford many more of these games when the team doesn’t show up. Last week we were great, and we thought we had turned the corner but today was so uninspiring and depressing. So we’re back not knowing which team will turn up to represent our famous club.
We need players with BIG hearts – those who give up at the least little problem shouldn’t even play against Birmingham. If we lose that game our goose will nearly be cooked.
We need to pick players who do have the courage to go out against all ends and win games. One of those players is Ob Martins who MUST start against Birmingham.
The Reading players did that today against high flying Manchester City, and credit to them. Players who play with courage and conviction make their own luck, and we’re sure that’s exactly what Reading did today.
We’re not sure who the other players are who are worthy of a start against Birmingham – but today was a disgrace in terms of the spirit shown by the players – and we use our words advisedly.
We should dock their wages and we say that in all seriousness.

Comment #2We should be playing a completely different side next week, drop the entire team other than Harper, Oba, and probably keep a couple of the older defenders. As you said, none of these other players are putting their hearts into the game so why not give the youngsters the game of their lives to see if they can at least put in an effort.

Comment #3Could the rumours that Smith has a starting position written into his contract be true?
It sounds insane but he was a Freddy signing and its the sort of thing Newcastle would do (and seems to be the only explaination as to why he plays every game).

Comment #17From what I’ve seen this season we are in league freefall. On paper our players are far better than those around us, in reality as teams, Newcastle, Middlesborough and Sunderland are much of a muchness, any one of them could go down. The thing that disturbs me most is at least the other two seem to be fighting against it.
What’s wrong with these players? Can’t they feel the passion from the terraces? I’m a very frightened man, we’re losing by the odd goal to average teams, while the better ones are hammering us, and I’m not just talking about the top four, remember Villa?

Why don’t you take your comment to the cockney press. They’d lap you right up. Meenwhile, why not put your opinions somewhere just aas unsavoury but slightly more smelly.
The manager is KK, simple as that! Haven’t you figured out that the one position we should not keep trying to kill is the managers.
I have, on occasion, respected your opinion. This time I’m afraid you’ve shown yourself to have the knowledge of a road kill ‘looking at the pretty lights’.

Comment #22Whoever thaught we were goin to win today were wrong.
We all expected to get beat today
we are MILES away from the belter team that we should be.
All we need to do is beat the teams below us, stay in the league, rebuild in the summer THEN,
THEN, we will see the new Newcastle, under a manager who knows how the game SHOULD be played.
He has fat Sam’s team for fook sake? thats NOT KK’s style.
KEEP THE FAITH LADS, AND DONT LOSE IT,FOR FOOK SAKE DONT LOSE IT
BECAUSE WE WONT GO DOWN

Comment #23I think as long as we have Smith we will be Leeds mk 2. He took them down and don’t think it couldn’t happen again. As long as Smith, Butt, Barton, Duff and Taylor have starting places no matter what, we are totally doomed.
Hungry youngsters could not do any worse than these overpaid has beens. Why Diatta when we have EDGAR? Lets give youth it’s head. Some will sink, others will make it. But at least they will care.

Comment #24Don’t lose the faith and we an all drown together. Bollocks!
KK will relegate NUFC. The right team will keep us up but he is mad and cannot fathom out the right team. He will continue to pick Smith, Butt, Barton and maybe Carr. Players who should be playing for Hartlepool Reserves. God help us in the good ship Titanic. KK is totally bonkers.

Comment #26I agree ronaldeano, although it could be close, i dont think we will go down. But whatever happens in the next few games we really have to try and keep the faith. If St James has a negative/nervous air about it when reading/sunderland/fulham come to play then we might loose and there is a possibility then our fears could be met so keep the faith!!!!!
And could we maybe all go to the training ground one day before next weekend with MASSIVE signs saying DROP SMITH PLAY OBA???lol just a thought cos something drastic is needed to get this guy on the field!!Hes our best player, strong and quick!!

Nearly all of us are true fans but we are very critical of the manager and the players because we are telling the truth. They are bollocks. or would you rather I said that they are not too bad and if we keep the faith we will have a good team. I never criticize at the ground and support the team but they and the manager.. to be honest … are rubbish. sadly…that is the truth.

KK you are a fool and a low class manager. How long will it take for you to realize to start Martins instead of that sh.t face Smith.I am so dissapointed of his selection since he came.
And one more thing and i don’t care what everybody thinks….Fu.k you Mike Ashley, you fuc.in fat tossa,I hold you completely responsible you 2 face asshole.
It is you who put Newcastle in this whole mess…..ONLY YOU.
From the day one he came he wanted to fire BSA but he was a chicken to do so cause he was afraid of the reaction of the fans.So he figured out a plan, the plan was not to give BSA enough amount of money like he promised so BSA was forced to sell Parker,Dyer and Luque in order to buy his targets. At the end he had to be satisfied with with couple of shit transfers such as Viduka,Smith,Rozy,Barton etc.Off course Smith became fat Ashley favorite boy and he took over Martins starting place.
Then our nightmare began,in January fat Ashley fires BSA with a perfect aliby that he wasn’t good enough for us so he brings the”Legend” in order to buy time from us cause he knew that he’s gonna cover his fat ass from fans who know about modern football(which Keegan is not included) and at the same time he made most of the fans happy(fans who know shit about football and keep saying”As long we’re better than the Mackems thats all i care”.
I’m so sorry that i have to sayall this but this is how i feel,we re just 20 years behind schedule.
I’m so dissapointed.

Comment #38We all complain about shit performances from Butt, Smith, Owen and Duff, yet Keegan keeps playing them week in week out, because he says “we need safety first”. If safety is losing 3-0 every match then maybe I need to look in the KK dictionary.
he’s a rubbish manager, who never should have been put in charge of this club. And he is totally to blame for this current mess because he will not take risks and change the squad when they are underperforming. If he changed the squad and they were still rubbish then at least he could say “i inheritied a rubbish squad”, but he wont do so we will never know.
we should be taking a risk on the next game and playing:
Beye——-Taylor—–Faye—-Enrique
—————–Butt————————
Milner—————————–Troisi–
—————N’Zogbia———————
Carroll—————————-Martins
give the kids a go for f**ks sake Kev!

Comment #39Alot are going on about Oba not starting, It is a posibility that KK has gently got him back into the team after his injury. This happens alot tbh.
Keeping Smith on defies belief as he should be droped FULL STOP.

Comment #40KK has also got to wake up to the real world. He must recognise that Smith and Butt should not even be considered to play, Martins must start every game – even at the expense of Owen. We cannot rely on disinterested has-beens on obscene salaries. Too many past reputations and not enough present passion. Out with Butt, Barton, Carr, Roz, Owen, Smith, and Taylor and Zog if they throw their dummies out of the pram again.
