Moncur – Time To Put Your iPods Away

Bob Moncur has spoken out at what the Newcastle players need to do, and they certainly don’t get any sympathy from Moncur, which is what we’d expect from a born leader like Moncur.

David Craig, Bob Moncur and Iam McFaul never surrendered in games

Pity we don’t have any born leaders in the current Newcastle United side.

Bobby Moncur told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:

“The time has come for players to switch off their iPods and concentrate on keeping this great club in the Premier League.” “I am concerned, of course I am.”

“Let’s face facts – the future of our Premier League status is in our own hands, but it’s up to the players.”

“The run of no wins since December 15 going into the crunch March period is worrying.” “And let’s be honest, if they don’t beat Fulham, Reading and Sunderland then they deserve to go down.”

“This is a serious slump for United, but at Anfield it all seemed to be going to plan.” “Kevin went there to get a point and, up until the fluke goal for Jermaine Pennant, I think that was going OK.”

“After that it rocked the team’s fragile confidence.” “Newcastle didn’t really threaten, which is worrying.”

“I was looking round at Anfield at a time when we needed some leaders – and there weren’t any.” “I know Steven Taylor and Nicky Butt were doing their best, but there was no-one there to boss things.”

“What they need is somebody to wake them up.” “There is no longer a player like Alan Shearer or Rob Lee who can get the team rattled enough to win games during a tough period.”

“It’s all right saying it, but talk is cheap and what they need now is to switch off the iPods, stop worrying about contracts and get the team out of the relegation zone.”

“Only then can we start to think about a bright future under Mike Ashley, Chris Mort and Kevin Keegan.”

We agree with Moncur 100%.

It’s just a pity that Bobby couldn’t take the field with this lot, and put a fire under their back ends – because that’s what they need. The only problem with that would be that Bobby would fell some of them for their lack of effort.

We are not big fans of mollycoddling the players – they get far too much of that – that’s why they are so spoiled, ad find it hard to produce when the chips are down.

They need to stand up, be counted and be men on the field, and if they are not willing to do that they should let Kevin know, and he he’ll leave them out of the side.

Much better to not play at all, than turn up and then wave the white flag when things get tough, which is what they’ve done for far too many games this season.

The way I see it, we have to finish above Bolton in order to survive.
    Derby and Fulham are down.
    Bolton have the following fixtures:
To me the best they can hope for is…
    Man U (a) – 0 pts
    Wigan (a) – 1 pts
    Man C (h) – 3 pts
    Arse (h) – 0 pts
    Villa (a) – 0 pts
    Tottenham (a) – 0 pts
    Chelsea (a) – 0 pts
    Sund (a) – 3 pts
    West Ham – 3 pts
Ie – 10 points from their final games to put them on (35pts), meaning we need 36 to stay up.
    Our fixtures are:
    Birmingham (a) – 1pt
    Fulham (h) – 3 pts
    Totten (a) – 0 pts
    Reading (h) – 1 pt
    Portsmouth (a) – 0 pts
    Sunderland (h) – 1 pt
    West Ham (a) – 0 pts
    Everton (a) – 0 pts
    Man C (a) – 1 pt
    Chelsea (h) – 0 pts
SO to me we should at LEAST pick up 7 points from opur remainging games, and victory against Sunderland would secure safety.
If the worst happens to us and the best happens to Bolton we would go down on goal difference : (. Both on 35 points.
Lets hope victory comes at Birminham and then Fulham and then we really should be safe.

Maybe the whole coaching staff along with some of the players should sit in the stand and get to experiance the game from the vantage point of the fans

talking about reputations, the current situation has done nothing for keegans “messiah ” reputation…. if nothing improves , he ” was out of his depth in the current game, unable to motivate” etc . .. but what if we suddenly have shearer turn up ,
    1) if we go down, it was too little too late, not his fault, valiant effort etc
    2) if he helps us stay up , it shows what a good motivator he is, the right man at the right time, showed he can do it when things get tough !….

if he`s as shrewed off the pitch as he was on it. watch this space

Bolton have the toughest fixtures easily.

I can see us getting a point at B’ham, West Ham. Win against Sunderland, Reading, Fulham.

i would agree with u there jj and i even think some of the points u have put bolton down with getting they will struggle with like man city it really does depends on which man city team turns up and i think wiga will beat them at home .
i just hop ekeegan changes his line up i think cacapa should play hes experienced he makes mistakes but i just prefer the defence with him in it. so my first 11 would be
    beye faye cacapa nzogbia
    milner barton geremi duff
    martins owen
play this team and i seriously belive we will stay up however if people like smith carry on getting played we will struggle maybe u could play enrique instead of nzogbia and push nzogbia upfiled but i think it depends on who u are playing

I believe we could win against 7games, we just most win the next one, so we could get some confidence before the spurs game;)… Please King Kev leave out butt and smith out form the squad(they could we sell give back to manu or scums from sunderland).
Let Martins start with Owen, we need goals, forget the defensive midfielder’s , they are crap any way!

KK is playing a dangerous game more or less saying his experienced player’s will keep being played when a lot of them are putting in shocking displays and saying the young inexperienced player’s will not be giving a chance.
These experianced players quite a few that know they will not be here next season so even if we went down they would not care. KK keeps mentioning Barton and Smith’s importance to the team and there great attitudes for getiing out of this mess but does not mention they are the main reasons why we are in this mess.
Give Carroll a shot if not against Birmingham put him in at home against Fulham.

totally agree cj however i think those players play mainly because we have no choice in the mater i no barton has had bad games but i still believe he is our best midfeileder and can pick out a pass duff ok i no hes not played well but if zogs at left back he would have to play and i no geremi has not had a good season but hes come back from afcn and i think he has a point to prove and i think he is a good passerof the ball and can do a half decent job of sheilding the back four i dont think he has played awful but i think alot of the time he just does the simple things and people dont realise it and i no it sounds a bit stupid but i do think he has a calming influence on the team when hes playing as he speaks a number of languages and can communicate with everyone well .
but i just dont rate smith at all he is not a goal scorer he cant hold up the ball and doesnt win any headers they only thing he does is get stuck in a admir his comitment but you need more at this level and martins can be one of the most dangerous strikers in the prem on his day so i cant see why smith gets played over him as martins could be our missing link and i believe he and owen could keep us up if we create chances for them

KK will continue to pick Smith and Butt. If he continues to pick Smith in particular, these selctions clearly show that our manager is bonkers. If he drops them, I’ll be the first on here to apologize. here’s hoping that KK sees the light. How is it that all NUFC fans can see that Smith is useless but the manager earning £5M cannot.

Daiv i dont think he has much choice when Emre and Barton are back then if butt stays in then theres a problem

Same as Smith if he is in against Brum, by that time Oba will definately be 100% ready to start then something is wrong and if he is the 3rd choice Striker when Viduka is fit then something stinks. IE Clauses saying he must play every game.

    Scott9- I get your point.

I was excited when we signed Barton cos he was Man city’s best player by far for the last 3 seasons before he signed for us he ran the show for them.He was a great box to box player who chipped in with a decent a mount of goals but when he got injured in pre season it must have fooked him up then he come out and called the fans vicious he must have been on crack supplied by Terry Smack. Barton i think if he can get his Man City form back he could be a great asset for us.

Smith i 100% agree is a disgrace cannot pass, he always jumps for a header but hardly ever seems to get on the end of it i agree you cannot complian about his work rate and commitment but if that is all you have it does not matter if you have not got the quality which he hasn’t.

CJ, Kelly and Kilcline had all the passion and commitment but were sold despite being great for the club when we were promoted as they werent good enough for the premiership.

Smith is the same apart from being a great signing, Smith will be sold in the summer as you cant be regular in the prem with just commitment and work rate.

I think most of this is Fergies fault for arsing around with his position at Man Utd because i really rated him at Leeds

Stupidly I had his name put on the back of my shirt at the start of season!!! So if you want to throw eggs at me at SJP then youre all welcome

Except Chris G for his crappy attack on my comments earlier, Read them again Chrissy lad and you were so out of order its untrue.

The current squad is composed of too many players who’s careers are on a slide. The likes of Butt, Owen, Duff, Geremi and Smith have all been there and done it at bigger clubs than this and are on their way down now. We need hungry young players who’s careers are on the up who still have yet to achieve in the game and more importantly want to do this at Newcastle.

If the best way to flush out the overpaid prima donnas and sign players who actually want to play for us then maybe relegation could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

    Martins – Owen

Its all about mind games..Keegan need to tell his 1st team tehy are the team to kepp him and us up…agreed with many of your views…Bobby did it about the dressing room when He arrived. Yeap we are up against it..No doubt . Barton Smith and Butt may are battlers …you do not chuck kids into a struggling team. One win…which will be fulham (1 point v Brum) and it give them a huge lift. Please back KK and all the team..we need it

Bob Moncur is dead right, stand up and be counted and if we lose against Fulham, Reading and Sunderland yes we’d deserve to go down.

As for the Smith saga, he HAS to be dropped, Owen and Oba have to play if not Oba/Carroll or even Oba/Shola before he gets on the pitch.

Also not in midfield either, he’s had a good crack of the whip and not done a thing as far as I can see let alone not scored an EPL goal in 30 months or so!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We’ve gotta start winning and that must be Monday as far as I’m concerned…… if I have to say, let’s get behind the team 100% for the run in to the end of the season.
